De-ranking of Inactive Businesses
Hi All,
We've been undertaking a major cleanup of FreeIndex. To this end, we have made the decision to "de-rank" all of those businesses with an inactive account. This helps to ensure that our search results remain as useful as possible for our users.
We have developed automated systems which detect email address bounces and scan business websites to see if they are working. We use this information to determine whether it's likely that a business is still trading, or if the information being shown for that business is likely to be correct. De-ranked businesses are displayed last in our search results, and a message is displayed on those profile pages to inform our users that the business appears to be inactive.
Q. How will I know if my business has been de-ranked?
A. If your business has been de-ranked then there will be a prominent message displayed at the top of your business profile page which says "This business has been de-ranked", with information about why this has happened and how to fix the problem.
Q. How do I prevent my listing from being de-ranked?
A. Just keep your information up to date and make sure that your email address on FreeIndex is working.
Q. I've been de-ranked, how can I fix this?
A. Log in to your account and follow the instructions to either change your email address, or to confirm that your current email address is correct. This will restore your previous ranking.

Still trading just don't log on a lot we only get a few alerts from your side and when we get them we tender for the work.. I've had 2-3 alerts in 2-3 years from this site so it's not very active on both sides to be fair.. is it just like that al the time or is there a way to make it more profitable.. I was wondering if paying for the upgrade would help but we don't get enough activity on your behalf to justify paying the monthly subscription

I've spent a happy couple of hours adding details to my listing on your site, taking it 20% to 80% complete. I hope this will mean it can now start to generate some enquiries. I'll see how it goes over the next six months to so before deciding whether Premium membership is worthwhile.

Ive been deranked what a waste of time building up reveiws etc. To be fair ive not had 1 job from this in 6 years
My Business is active, however I very rarely use Freeindex and stopped my premium membership awhile back, main reason my listing is too generic.
I'm lumped in under tilers and my work is over 80% Victorian tile restoration and the rest bespoke geometric tiling.
I feel that a classification for all restoration specialists would be helpful and also allow people to find specialists easier.

I find the same challenges using web sites that base their users primarily on demographics/location. I don't think there is an answer, other than changing your profile from time to time, accenting different aspects. Just know it's a limitation helps too. The upgrade does help somewhat and is only £10 a month.
