Andy has the patience, knowledge and skills to teach anyone, from a beginner like me, up to pro level, using experience gained from over 30 years of playing. He teaches at the pace you set, and is happy for you to choose the path of the lesson, so you could do a bit of chord work, strumming patterns or learning songs you like. If you want to learn more complicated stuff Andy is just as happy explaining the theory of music on the guitar fretboard and helping you develop soloing and improvisation strategies. Because Andy has such a vast musical knowledge he also plays several other songs in his lessons as further examples of where the lick or melody you are learning is also heard. Andy makes the one to one lessons really enjoyable, and will always leave you with a feeling of deeper understanding and a desire to learn more! If he can teach me, a ‘slow-learning’ middle aged lady beginner, then he can teach anyone!
For me he's the perfect teacher, he asks what you'd like to play, gives good advice on good guitars for it too and if you don't know you learn new techniques and can come up with things yourself but he'll always offer up advice to improve and progress you're playing, plus local too.
Andy is a fantastic guitarist with a clear passion for music. From the first lesson Andy really gets to know you and takes an interest in your musical tastes and brings this into the lessons. Not only is Andy great at teaching songs, but he really focuses on getting all the techniques down and engaging in your playing. He’s a fantastic guy, with a great sense of humour and I always look forward to my lessons with him.
Andy is a superb musician who with his own style of teaching really brings out and exposes hidden talent and skill sets in the student. With Andy it's not just about learning songs although he's more than happy to do so if that's your aim, it's more about developing knowledge and understanding of the fret board and how it's connected like a road map so you can compose your own solos, rhythm or music. Andy will focus on your preferred style of music be it blues, rock, metal basically anything you want and breaks down the songs or piece into sections making it easy and fun to learn. Using quality equipment backing tracks are available or you can record your own to play too enhancing the sound and musicality of the sessions. I have been playing guitar for over ten years but never really progressed beyond a certain level however over the last 6 months I've developed a new found understanding and appreciation for the instrument and improved in my playing and skill in leaps and bounds. Every session taking away something new and being a better player for it. I would highly recommend Andy for guitar tuition.
Andy is a really nice guy and an excellent teacher, he's taught me since I first picked up a guitar about 4 years ago and I only have praise. While you won't find his teaching style in any theory book, he will always give you the to be an excellent guitarist. He can teach many different styles of playing and always tailors your lessons to the type of guitarist you are. He also is a great help when it comes to technical guitar problems (he can usually fix just about any issue you have with you guitar). All in all I wish the teachers through all my life were as good and skilled as Andy and he's a great guy too. While I am taking a bit of a break from guitaring currently, I had Andy Sharpe teach me when I decided to get into it, and it was a great experience. I had quite a lot of lessons and each one was a very good experience as it helped me add important parts bit by bit, which after a while it all comes together. From mentioning my favourite bands that are a big influence he knows what types of methods they use, in which after a while of them being taught to me allowed me to combine them together and give me my own ideas. The prices are good and Andy is polite and easy to talk to, it overall makes for an excellent teacher who knows his stuff, totally recommended.
