FreeIndex v10 – First Look

As we mentioned in our recent email newsletter, we are currently working on FreeIndex Version 10.
Our mantra for v10 is “simpler, smarter and faster”.
Click Here to view a bigger screenshot.
Major changes include...
- New, cleaner, minimal design.
- Removing all content and code which does not provide a direct function to the user, or our members.
- Removing the right hand menu and putting categories in the main window.
- Removing the first level from our category structure, resulting in one less click to get to the results you’re after.
- An improvement to the speed of searches and busy categories.
- New filters to help users find the most appropriate business when viewing the business listings pages.
In short we are very excited about v10 and are confident that this is going to be the best ever version of FreeIndex.
Your feedback and suggestions are absolutely invaluable to us, so please do post your thoughts below. We read every comment. FreeIndex v10 should be ready in the next month or so, but obviously we are not going to release it until it’s spot on.
We hope you’re well.
Best Regards
Martin, Steve & the team

Really pleased, but Can You Send me my Door Stickers !, as they have Still not arrived.
Many Thanks

Leaving a review needs to be easier. I don't always like to ask my clients as feed back points to it being a bit time consuming.
Otherwise I have positive comments.

I have not had a look at free index for some time - it has really been improved, will be looking in more often!Great job!
Will look a better presented website.

Very clear and concise information!
Much easier to get around, nice job freeindex !
I am hoping to benefit more from this site keep me up to date
That sounds great and ive already had good responce from freeindex keep up the good work!
Just reading Martin's comment below. I use Safari and it looks fine on my screen. Strange! I like the new view anyway :o)
I had problems uploading event photos, but it worked with the basic uploader. One issue though: when you click upload there is no indication (for me) that anything is happening, so the first thing you do is keep hitting the upload button! Truth is, it's working fine - you just don't know it! Maybe a status bar would help numbskulls like me?!!
cannot find where you add your products any more??
still seems to busy/poor lay out.
The new version has loaded on my computer today.
Personally I think it looks shit.
It doubtless looks great on MS Internet Explorer but it plainly hasn't been tested on Safari so if you use a Mac you're a second class citizen.
The text is all over the place at the bottom and loads of other things are misplaced.
I'm also annoyed because the categories have been tinkered about with again.
As a handyman (and proud of it) I am trying the establish via the UK Guild of Handymen that such traders are truly multi-skilled traders since this is what people expect from a Handymen.
I can just about consider a flat-pack assembler might be a handyman although doubt they could change a tap-washer.
But now the number one handyman is a drive cleaner—and bess I'm obviously p****d off because I was the number one handyman and i'm now number two to a drive cleaner!!
Having not used this site in a while, the updates look good, notifications need to be improved.
Regards
The website is very informative fast and easy to use
Nicely done, should be a huge improvement.
Thanks For providing this excellent free service what ever changes you make can only improve what is to me allready an superb ,easy to use site thanks Andrew
The time and effort your team have put into the new website will make it a much more enjoyable experience to browse and advertise.
Keep up the good work.
you have done a good job in the past, I am sure v10 can only be better. Well done to all the free index team.
All looks good so far. At the moment I can only appear on a list of "Driving Schools" OR a list of "Driving Instructors" let alone all the other smaller categories that I would include myself on, so only a fraction of the users searching on the site will actually see my listing and profile! I hope that the new version can remedy this so that we can have multiple listings?
Clear, minimal design. One click less for results, and an improvement to search speed. Now there's a winning formula for all concerned with FreeIndex.
Excellent work, a very professional site.

This all looks really encouraging.

GREEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT.
'No Need to Yell' Veeeery good! Love it!
Looks good. If I were to request one thing, it would be that when someone accepts one (of five) quotes, the others get some kind of notification - and are not left with the feeling that it was merely some sort of trawl.
Embrace change and if it doesn't work, change it!
I am all for improvements.
My company welcomes change and would not survive if change was not an integral part of its working, evolving structure.
I believe that the proving ground is when the changes are implemented and that is when we know if it is better or worse, at which point I will comment further.

I agree with all the other comments regarding reviews. We've missed out on a few reviews because of the lack of a 'validation email'. Please can you either get rid of the need for validation or make it CLEAR that the client will have to click on a link in another email.
I don't like look of the proposed new site and don't like the green at all - also I appreciate you need to know if a review is valid or not but I know lots of the people I ask do not realise that it is not being posted if they do not validate their email so it is a bit of a pain - but as you could monitor IP addresses etc I would think you would see they were not being written by the business person themselves!
I am comfortable with the present version but any improvement got to be a good thing.
The current website is great. It's easy to use, and as clear as a bell; so I guess there's no need to change?! Better the devil you know that the devil you don't!
I think the current look is better, and I agree with one of the comments below that it looks rather cluttered; but I must say, the service that FreeIndex offers is second to none, and that's what's most important.
Go FreeIndex!
I Like Free Index, find it easy to use, the only fault I have, as with other listings is - being a calligrapher it is difficult to get into the correct category.
Sorry - don't like it! Looks cluttered and too much on the page
VIMEO OPTION PLEASE!
Please can you include VIMEO as a video format option as well as you tube - it's HD functions are much better and it's a more user friendly platform.
I agree with the comments about asking people to verify reviews is easy to tell which computer reviews have been sent from any duplicate addresses would not be showen
Reviews need to be quick and easy, other wise good website.
I keep getting told leaving reviews should be simpler~most people don't expect to have to verify via email link
Looks good but not sure about the no need to YELL,this only reminds people to try YELL,free advertising for YELL ??
Not sure how this is a more minimal image... it seems busier and more cluttered!
Looks excellent, well done you people!
Good Luck, current version is working well for me.

Looks a bit cluttered to me, too many links on 1 page. Collapsing categories would be much nicer and user friendly.
Not sure people some times less is better, think you might need a quote here if it's not broke don't fix it.
Sorry!
no this is more clear side
Looks good at first view and hopefully it be an easier interface to use. Dave Halliday.
call me old fashioned but I prefer free index as is
Wow!.. Onwards and upwards..
sounds good lets be having it ....
hi sorry but prefer freeindex how it is thankyou
Looks far better than the current site, less is more as they say!
Keep up the great work :)
Looking good and very straight to the point. This will make it alot easier for users to navigate i feel the update will bring alot of good to the website. keep up the good work free index your doing an excellent job :)
this looks a lot better will be of great help to every user of this site
Will be interesting to see what changes are to be made. The cylex site and i hampshire have recently updated there business listings. Free index is the most professional business listing available presently so cant wait to see the new site etc .Only issue is the photos , whilst up dating our photos i noticed you can only replace existing photos with smaller "kb" images. I don't have any under 600 kb so i lost the image? This is only a small problem im sure ill over come. Good work free index many thanks. Michael, M B roofing contracts Andover Hampshire .

Love it, neater, easier to follow, think it will ease confusion, well done!
That looks clean and easy to use which is great.
Looks clear and crisp. Very good. Could you please consider the following as part of the changes:
1. Advertiser able to select more categories than the additional two to the main category. Our business has five separate services available to our customers.
2. Changing the main catagory Pets and Animals is found under. Entertainment and Media doesn't quite fit. Maybe Public and Social Services???
Thanks
/ James
Hi - Looking good
I would appreciate if you could consider the following as part of v10:-
1. Only apply the limit to lead responses to those when you can obtain the details and don't apply a limit to those when you are outside the distance limit so don't get the lead details.
2. I suggest this because it would be fairer to those submitting an interest to the lead and also allows the person submitting the lead to be aware of other interested suppliers.
Your thoughts?
Regards
SteveB
