Mike's first taste of firefighting was during his service with the Army when he was deployed to provide emergency fire cover in Scotland in the 1978 Fireman's dispute. He now has over thirty years' experience in the fire industry.

Mike joined West Midlands Fire Service in 1980 serving at some of the UK's busiest fire stations and transferred to Shropshire in 1999 where he was the Brigades Head of Fire Safety Department. Mike retired from the Service in 2010 and now runs Unicorn Fire and Safety Solutions.
