Wests School of Motoring

I took up lessons with Phil from Wests school of driving at the beginning of April 2025 with a driving test at Chingford test centre fast approaching in early June. Prior to this I had some driving experience but hadn’t driven for over 6 months so was starting from fresh. Thanks to Phil’s excellent driving skills and teaching methods, he was able to get me where I needed to be in 2 months to be road ready, and pass first time with him. It was a great experience learning with him and he was easy to get along with and was patient when I made mistakes and helped me learn from them. I would highly recommend for new drivers and people returning to lessons.

I couldn’t recommend Dirita enough! From the very first lesson, she created such a comfortable and positive environment that made learning to drive feel so much easier. She’s incredibly supportive and patient, always helping me improve without ever making me feel stressed or overwhelmed. Every lesson was a great experience, and I always felt encouraged and confident. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your progress and makes learning enjoyable, Dirita is the perfect instructor! Can’t wait for my next lesson x.

I can't recommend Phil enough. He doesn't just teach you how to pass the test but teaches you the skills to drive safely on the road.

Fantastic driving school! Before driving with Phil I had had previous lessons with another driving school but I had no confidence in driving or my manouveres, made loads of mistakes and failed my first driving test. Compared to my previous instructor, Phil was incredibly patient, observant and gave me loads of details and advice which helped me to improve immensely. I get high anxiety when it comes to tests but phil was very supportive and helped me to build confidence in my own skills as a driver. I finally passed today on my second attempt after driving with phil for a year! I couldn't reccomend a better instructor especially for nervous drivers like me. Thank you so much Phil! .

I successfully passed my manual driving test on the first attempt with only three minor faults. My instructor, Spencer, was exceptionally patient and employed a thorough, methodical approach to teaching. Thanks to his guidance, I felt both confident and well-prepared heading into the test.

I learnt with Phil for around a year and passed first time with 1 minor. I knew going in I was in good hands as he’d taught both my siblings over the last 13 years. Phil was really supportive through out and incredibly patient and kind when dealing with my severe anxiety. He knew when to push me and when I needed a little extra time and support, couldn’t recommend him enough. I am now a confident driver and ready to take on the road!

I cannot recommend Wests highly enough and in-particular my instructor Spencer, whose skill, calmness and professionalism enabled me to successfully pass my driving test at Hornchurch at the first time of asking (2 minors). Throughout my entire learning, Spencer’s attention to detail and personable approach really gave me the confidence to go and achieve. Don’t waste time and get booked up with them if you are looking to learn to drive in Romford etc.

Phil is a wonderful instructor ! The minute I started my driving lessons with wests driving school I felt like I was in safe hands and straight on my road to success, couldn't recommend a better driving school. The patience, support and humour which I had from Phil led me to pass my driving test first time and have an overall brilliant experience learning a valuable life skill ! I Would highly recommend this driving school.

Phil was an amazing instructor, and I couldn't have asked for a better learning experience, even after a bad experience with a previous another instructor. Phil was very proactive in every lesson and tailored them to my skills. He also had a very good balance of normal conversation and tutoring, which made the lessons enjoyable and less stressful. I would recommend him 10/10 to new and experienced drivers.

Big thanks to Spencer for being a brilliant driving instructor. Not only did he help me build lots of confidence in myself with driving, he also taught me how to be safe on the roads as well. Started off with no confidence and he has been very encouraging from day 1. Taught me simple methods for the manoeuvres and kept my driving to a very high level. Passed today with 1 minor in Hornchurch! Would 100% recommend him for any new drivers wanting to learn. Great guy and easy to be around. Thanks again!

Excellent driving instructor, highly recommend, Phil has been extremely supportive throughout the process of learning to drive and has helped me to gain confidence in varied situations by being patient and positive. He also created simple and effective procedures in order to help me to understand how to approach different circumstances when driving and this ensured a first time pass. Thank you Phil.

Really thankful for my time with Phil! Started off with little confidence after having some challenging experiences beforehand with driving lessons but not only did he instill high-quality, simple and accessible methods/approaches to driving - he was motivating and kept a high standard which was very important for me to overcome my anxiety with driving and be a overall confident driver. If you’re looking for a quality lessons not just to pass your test but to build you as a safe and confident driver I would recommend!

I passed my Driving Test with only 4 minors and Mr Spencer played and huge role in it. He's a reliable and patient instructor. He spots the errors and finds a way to correct them efficiently. I would recommend him to everyone. 5 stars.

Brilliant instructor and experience! I was a complete beginner when I first joined West's Driving School. After a few lessons with the main man, Phil West, I no longer felt like a beginner. He was not only great at teaching me the methods to the maneuvers but also helping me mentally with my driving. I was getting myself frustrated in the first few lessons and Phil was able to calm me down and guide me through it in a professional manner. I would highly recommend West's Driving School.

I couldn’t recommend Wests Driving School more. I did manual lessons with Phil and from the very beginning I felt comfortable and safe as a new driver. As long as learning the skills needed to pass my test I have gained a valuable understanding of driving outside of a test which will stay with me for life. Thank you Phil!

Amazing Driving School, Phil was an incredible instructor, he was kind, calm, patient and overall great teacher. When I first came to him I was a horrible driver but Phil taught me the basics of driving and slowly built my confidence up. He taught me in a really nice and composed manner which really helped me out. He taught me all the manoeuvres perfectly, he taught me great discipline on different kinds of roads so when it came to my test I was confident in my driving abilities and I passed almost faultless. It was a real pleasure and joy to learn from such a great instructor and I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for driving lessons.
