Sam is a brilliant instructor. I'd had a few disastrous starts to learning to drive with other instructors and never thought I'd be able to do it but Sam is one in a million. His step by step approach and clear instructions really work to build your confidence and give you the skills you need. I went from being very anxious to really enjoying driving! Just passed my test first time. Thank you so much.

Sam was such a calm, patient and friendly instructor, and he always put me at ease if I was finding a lesson hard or stressful. I went from being very nervous to passing my test first time (and feeling confident during it! ) I’d definitely recommend Sam to anyone looking to learn!

I've got Grant. D as my instructor and he was brilliant, from what I've heard and noticed, he is able to tailor the lesson to a specific learner, so whether he sees you require a faster or a bit slower pace, he will do whatever is necessary to make sure you have all of the skills and information to pass. He managed to help me pass first time so I'm really happy with him and Smile School. Trully professionals in their field.

I had a very enjoyable experience learning to drive with Grant from Smile. He was patient with me and gave me great insight when learning giving me the confidence I need on the roads. Overall a great experience and would recommend.

I was lucky to get Julianna as my driving instructor. She is such a great and knowledgeable instructor. Very calm and composed in all situations. She made sure that I was confident in every aspect of my driving. As a result, I passed with 0 minors. I would recommend her and Smile School of Motoring to everyone who is learning to drive in the Edinburgh area.

Sam was the first instructor that got back to me saying he is able to fit me in after I had unsuccessfully contacted around 20 schools. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Sam is the perfect instructor. Very experienced and calm with excellent teaching methods. I was a complete beginner and very nervous. He was always very patient and knew when I was ready for the next stage. Encouraged me to make independent decisions, gave plenty of positive feedback and allowed time for reflection at the end of the lessons. He was also very understanding and flexible when I couldn't make the lesson and fit me in for extra lessons where possible. Once I was quite confident with my driving we were able to have nice chats during the lessons which created an even more comfortable environment for learning. Always a great laugh when you get in the car whilst getting pushed to your limits every lesson. I always looked forward to the lessons and throughly enjoyed them.

Just passed today and all thanks to Kat for her patience and experience in teaching to drive and also gave good knowledge and understanding that made the whole experience a joy. Thanks Kat .

I had Sam as an instructor and he was brilliant. He gave in depth, relevant detail when explaining everything. He also made me feel at ease when driving and got rid of the nervousness that sometimes occurs when driving a car for the first time. Would highly recommend Sam for anyone who is looking to pass their test and most of all be comfortable behind the wheel.

Started lessons in June 2024 with Kat and passed my test march 2025, can’t recommend Kat enough I passed first time with her, she’s very patient friendly and gives you the confidence you need for learning to drive, I previously did manual and struggled completely I didn’t do certain important things I needed to learn but with Kat she covers everything to test routes and manoeuvres often which I lacked completely with my last instructor. Will recommend her to friends or family if ever I know someone looking to do automatic lessons. Thank you very much Kat.

Honestly he was brilliant; I'm such a nervous person but I felt calm behind the wheel while he was teaching me, and having passed my test now I'm so glad that he taught me not just to get through the test, but about how to be a genuinely good driver. Thank you very much to Kat (and Smile School of Motoring) for helping me overcome my concerns about motor coordination. Kat started teaching my wife and I at the same time (to help us motivate each other) and once we were confident moved to separate lessons. She was really supportive in adapting the teaching approach and content to our different needs. I highly recommend Kat, but would also suggest to focus on 2+ hour lessons as I found these more effective.

I cannot recommend Kat and Smile driving school highly enough! After switching from manual lessons at a different driving school to automatic lessons with her, I was nervous and lacked confidence. From the very first lesson, her calm, patient, and supportive approach made me feel at ease when I was driving and she helped me steadily build my confidence with every session. Kat is always punctual and incredibly flexible, making scheduling lessons around being a student, working and walking my dog easy. Her teaching style is clear, encouraging, and tailored to my needs, which was exactly what I needed to improve my skills. She instantly recognised the teaching style that suited me best. Beyond her incredible teaching, I’ve also really enjoyed our lessons because we always have nice catch-ups and chats each week, which makes driving with her a pleasure. She was always attentive to my concerns and made me feel at ease, particularly in the lead-up to my test. When we decided to reschedule my test, she reassured me and ensured I didn’t feel like I had let myself down. Thanks to Kat I was able to pass my driving test on the first attempt! I now feel confident and safe as a driver, which is all thanks to her. My Boyfriend has also now started learning to drive with her too !
