IT WAS VITAL STAY AT HOME UNLESS SHOPPING FOR ESSENTIAL FOOD OR MEDICINE AND IF DOING SO WEAR A MASK AND MAINTAIN A SOCIAL DISTANCE OF TWO METRES AT ALL TIMES. WE WISH TO THANK ALL MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE AND ALL CARERS IN CARE HOMES AND IN THE COMMUNITY FIGHTING THIS VIRUS ON THE FRONT LINE FOR THE LIVES THAT THEY THEY WILL SAVE AND THE LIVES THAT THEY WILL GIVE IN THE MONTHS THAT FOLLOW. PLEASE TAKE CARE. IAN AND MICHELLE.
Learning to drive was an enjoyable and rewarding experience at the Ian Farrow Driving Academy. Ian owned the Academy and was a full time Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) who was Pass Plus registered, enhanced disclosure (DBS) checked, friendly, calm and patient.
The tuition car was a dual controlled Vauxhall Corsa Design CDTi EcoFlex with manual transmission. This stylish model has air conditioning, power steering and a smooth clutch that gives you every assistance when learning to drive and the Tomtom start 52 satellite navigation system is similar to the one used by the DVSA in the practical driving test.
Lessons were one to one and were provided in one hour slots from home, school, college, university or workplace in the Coventry and Bedworth areas only in preparation for driving tests at the Coventry, Nuneaton and Warwick Driving Test Centres. To apply for a place at the Academy students needed to hold a valid provisional driving licence with no penalty points and be available for lessons between the hours of 10-00am and 4-00pm from Monday to Friday.
Ian trained at The Instructor College in Solihull with Red Instructor Training and qualified at South Yardley Driving Test Centre in Birmingham. He was on the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency register of Approved Driving Instructors and taught 'Safe Driving For Life' and 'Road Craft'. He worked with a well known leading Coventry based driving school before setting up the Coventry based Academy in 2009 which he ran with partner Michelle. The focus of the Academy was on individual tuition at a fair price which will not rise for its duration. Due to demand the wait for a start date would vary but as students passed their tests on a regular basis it was never too long. The number of lessons required to reach a safe standard of driving and therefore take a practical driving test will vary as every student will have a different level of natural ability and a different rate at which they are able to learn and private practise is a benefit.
Ian has trained people aged from 17 to 60 to drive safely and pass the driving test. One hour training sessions were provided for anyone who was intending to accompany a learner driver to ensure that they got maximum benefit from their private practice, for anyone who was about to attend a driving assessment test for a potential employer with a view to improving driving performance or for anyone who may have wished to reduce their fuel and repair costs (ECO driving). The Academy provided the Pass Plus course but did not provide intensive learning courses, tuition for the extended driving test or automatic tuition. Due to high workloads the Academy could only ever offer a maximum of one hour of tuition each week.
The Driving Test Centres used depended on your location. Coventry Driving Test Centre if you are located in East Coventry, Coventry or Nuneaton Driving Test Centres if you are located in Bedworth or North Coventry and Warwick Driving Test Centre if you are located in South Coventry.
