Having moved around a lot and experienced many different hairdressers (some great, some terrible), I can safely say this was my worst experience ever. I've always wanted to try a Brazilian Blow Dry, and visited The Hair Salon because of their Groupon offer. My hair is something of a challenge as it is very thick, and I warned the staff of this when I called to book the appointment, because hairdressers often prefer to leave more time for my appointment. The moment I walked in, the man in charge (Simms) told me I'd have to pay a surcharge on the Groupon offer because my hair was "longer than mid-back". My hair is quite long, but it is definitely not longer than mid-back - (I know this because I had seen the Groupon terms and conditions, and asked my usual hairdresser whether or not mine would qualify). Next, I was taken to have my hair washed, where I had tears in my eyes from the roughness of the assistant's approach. Once sat in my chair to have my hair brushed, the stylist ripped out my earring with the comb, which was obviously very painful. My whole visit was punctuated with long periods of waiting (as were the visits of the other clients) because they had booked too many clients in for the amount of staff on duty (and the size of the salon in my opinion). When the stylist asked how I'd like my hair finished, I asked for loose curls. She went on to do these but the man (Simms) told her off, saying there was another surcharge to have curls due to the amount of time taken. He also commented on how I'd already taken up "loads of our time", which is just appalling. On my hair, the type of curls I like take a much shorter time than straightening, and I explained this. My stylist, again, went to curl my hair but was ordered out to the back room by Simms, and returned a few minutes later, red in the face, where she told me she'd have to straighten it. At the end of my appointment, I was told I would have to purchase their special shampoo and conditioner for £30 (I usually spend a maximum of £5 on each) otherwise the treatment would be stripped out completely and the whole thing rendered pointless - something which was not mentioned in the offer, if I'm not mistaken. I couldn't afford this but decided I couldn't have gone through the horrible experience to get nothing out of it, so bought the set. I left feeling thoroughly ripped off and unhappy; even the haircut was not what I had asked for. If you've never been to The Hair Salon, I'd avoid it. If you're a regular, I'd advise you to try somewhere else and see if you're not pleasantly surprised.Moreexpand_more
Response : I am deeply sorry about your experience in my salon. But the point of the Brazilian keratin treatment you paid for does not include any extra treatments you asked for like soft curls (which i advised you not to have after the treatment) yes the time it takes on the Brazilian treatment is on average 3 hours but yours did take longer due to thickness and length of your hair. The treatment on groupon was reduced from £175 to under £60. Shampoo and conditioner is also reduced from £45 to £29. 99. The shampoo and conditioner you normally buy for £5 would not be suitable for this treatment.
The Brazilian blow dry can be slightly uncomfortable when hair some times is very thick and long for this treatment when combing especially when sometimes its knotted. We are very thorough on we do. We have not had any one else complain about our fare prices and great results on our Brazilian blow drys. I have also took time on reading the terms and conditions and it does state that there may be a an extra additional charge on long hair. I would also like to point out that I don't know of any salons whom do not charge for extra work carried out. I am deeply sorry again for the uncomfortable treatment you had. Also I would like to say is the earing you had on when shampooing was not ripped out as you put it. We did ask you to remove it. And also you was advised not to use your mobile phone when my stylist was shampooing your hair. All my staff are level 3 standard and we have never had this sort of complaint, and why should my regulars avoid my salon? Just because you had to spend a little more on your extra services. It is not our fault that you could not afford the shampoo and conditioner and you feel ripped off and unhappy. You say the size of my salon and the clients was over booked well that was because the time my stylist took on your hair. We are fully booked at all times because we are professional on what we do and the high standard of work,we have a very high client base and we are deeply sorry that you find this uncomfortable, and v.I.P areas are not available.Moreexpand_more
