Based in Bramcote near Nottingham and founded in 1995, the Acupuncture Fertility Centre offers complementary health care for couples undergoing fertility treatment. Both CARE fertility and NURTURE are located nearby. The focus is on boosting your fertility using acupuncture, moxibustion, dietary / nutritional / lifestyle advice and lots of listening.
Some people turn to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom or condition, some to improve their general sense of well-being. Because traditional acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a range of conditions.
“Morning sickness abated after second treatment. Currently much more manageable”.
S. C. Beeston.
Please note that the centre advises that prospective patients seek a diagnosis from a registered medical practitioner before commencing a course of acupuncture and that the latter does not replace medical treatment.
Though there is a growing body of scientific research into its uses, there is however, insufficient data that conforms to the usual western medical standards of large scale, double-blind, randomised controlled trials on the human population and, from this perspective, its efficacy must still be considered to be largely unproven. All of the references made within this website to research into acupuncture needs therefore to be seen in this context. Despite this, the Acupuncture Fertility Centre remains a strong advocate of its use as part of a co-ordinated approach to supporting the best possible levels of reproductive health.
The founder of The Acupuncture Fertility Centre, Martin Dean, is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the UK's main regulatory body for the practice of Acupuncture. He is also a founder member of fertility pioneer Zita West's National Network for Reproductive Health, and a member of The Acupuncture Fertility Network.
He was also a lecturer in acupuncture at the University of Lincoln for 10 years.
The Acupuncture Fertility Centre also has a steady group of customers, situated throughout the UK and Ireland, for whom they are able to provide acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer.
Modern research suggests that acupuncture can improve natural fertility by helping to regulate hormones, improving blood supply to the ovaries (hence improving eqq quality), improving sperm quality and quantity, helping with embryo implantation and reducing stress. Acupuncture is safe and effective.
