About Teacher of the Alexander Technique
Sara is a member of The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) with fully enhanced CRB check and insurance with 20 years experience of teaching AT at all levels and ages. She is also registered with the Complementary and Natural Health Care Council.
Sara originally trained to be a professional trumpet player at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She suffered from both physical and psychological stress during her career as a performer and teacher. By her late teens and early twenties, Sara suffered from very bad lower back pain and inexplicable joint pain. Some mornings the pain was so bad Sara found it difficult to even get out of bed. Despite numerous medical investigations, doctors could find nothing wrong with her – one rheumatologist concluded, “You may be in a wheelchair by the time you’re 30, you may not be” and prescribed steroids. But instead of taking the steroid tablets, Sara started to have lessons in the Alexander Technique.
After a few weeks Sara began to notice how she was able to move more freely and with far less pain and the improvements in breathing enhanced her trumpet playing enormously. A few months later and she was pain free.
Sara was so inspired by her lessons that she decided that she wanted to train to be a teacher of the Technique. She studied on a full-time, 3 year STAT approved training course in Brighton and qualified in 1995. After qualification Sara had her own private practice, but also trained students to teach at the Alexander Technique College, Brighton, eventually becoming the Assistant Director of the course.
Sara moved to Devon with her husband Mark in 2009 and teaches one to one lessons in the Alexander Technique. If you would like more information, please phone for an informal chat.0 FreeIndex Reviews
