About Spine Works

Key Services :

Gerry started the business in 1995 and is a Graduate of Edge Hill University with a BSC (Hons) Degree in Sports Therapy. Spine Works has 25 years of experience delivering Complementary Therapies and provides comprehensive, innovative and individually tailored treatments to clients throughout the area. The company operates from his home based clinic in Waterloo (Liverpool).

Spine Works is a member of The Federation of Holistic Therapies and The Dorn Method Therapists Association.

Spine Works utilises a wide range of scientific and evidence based protocols to assesses each patient as an individual, then using this information to individually tailor a personal treatment for that patient, which will address the specific physical imbalances that are causing their ill health.

The treatment is safe, making it suitable for all, regardless of age or gender and is quickly effective in both reducing their pain and / or stiffness and increasing their range of movement, while improving their health, promoting recovery and well being.

Gerry's Practise is based within his home in Waterloo L22. He has been involved in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Sector for over two decades.

He is a vastly experienced, knowledgeable, qualified and insured Sports Therapist and CAM practitioner who is fully accrediated and has previously been involved both the delivery and teaching of alternative therapies.

Spine Works is thrieving and has an ever growing list of patients. These are mostly from from The Merseyside Area, but increasing patients are attending for further afield in the North West. Gerry's oldest patient to date was a 93 year old, former Coal Miner and one of his youngest was 10yr old Warrington boy, who now is one of the Male dancers in "The Bolshoi Ballet School" in Moscow.

Successfully treated patients come from all backgrounds including The Armed Forces, The Ambulance, Fire and Police Services, The NHS, Building Trades, Teaching, Legal, Sports Athletes, Administrative workers, Children and Students.

The treatment on offer from Spine Works is derived from both experiences and knowledge gained over the last twenty three years and from treating many hundreds of patients. To do this, Gerry combines various techniques and modalities which help the patient get well.
He always says, he doesn't cure or fix a patient, they do that themselves, as he only helps bring their problems to the attention of their immune system and they fix and heal themselves.

Patients often say what Gerry does is a new experience to them, even if they have had previous body work and it wasn't what they expected beforehand. Some patients with prior experiences of treatments attend expecting another soft, gentle, relaxing massage, but that's not Spine Works is about.
Yes, Gerry can do that style of body work, but that alone won't make patients physically better, whereas this treatment approach will.
That's a promise he can and will make to patients. Thus far, no one has said this approach didn't improve their condition.

So, call for a chat and working together, you can and will become well.

Dear all, After graduating from 4 years of University study to obtain my BSc Degree in Sports Therapy.
I would like to address and answer a question I commonly get asked.

"What is a Sports Therapist and what do I offer ?"

People are often confused when I say I’m a Sports Therapist, as to what that actually means.
Am I a type of Physio ? Do I only do massage ? What is it Sports Therapy ?

Simply stated, a Sports Therapist is a Healthcare Professional, similar to a Physiotherapist, but with a specific interest and focus on the treatment and rehabilitation of sporting conditions and injuries.

Throughout my studies, I have the gained the ability, knowledge and skills to assess, optimise, rehabilitate and treat lifestyle, occupational, sports and work injuries. These can be performed in either a Clinical or a pitch side or club sporting setting.

I effectively provide assessment and treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Alongside these skills, I can deliver injury prevention advice, treatment sessions and even perform sports massage if appropriate.

The treatment I offer is very similar to Physiotherapy, however it is tailored more towards working with patients within a sporting environment and population. Just like a Physiotherapist, I often see and treat both amateur athletes and sports people. However, I am equally well equipped to help non-sporting people too. The majority of the patients I see in my private practise, often come to see me for treatment with an occupational or work related injury or problem.

I hope this assists in your decision making and recovery.
Gerry.

From start to finish Gerry was so professional, he made you feel at ease straight away, he is so friendly. My daughter has been suffering from back pain for a while and Gerry came highly recommended and he did not disappoint. His knowledge is superb and he explained everything in detail as he was treating my daughter. Her back had already improved after her session and Gerry gave her exercises to do with an aftercare routine. Absolutely brilliant will definitely be recommending him.

Gerry was amazing in helping my 90 year old mother with her painful shoulder that she had been suffering with for 2 months. He was caring, re-assuring, explained everything he was doing and why. He was very appropriate when examining her and did some gentle physio on her after assessing what the problem was. We left with some good advice, guidance and exercises to do and she had seen an improvement in movement since. Would definitely recommend and go back to if needs be.

Gerry undertook holistic and person centred assessment to arrive at a working diagnosis, which transpired to be correct. I had been mostly immobilised over preceding five weeks, yet following initial intervention I was able to move a lot more freely with significant reduction of pain. Gerry took the time to explain the rationale for the assessment stages and subsequent treatment, whilst checking for understanding and whether it was tolerable. His extensive knowledge and skill set is immediately apparent, coupled with a therapeutic approach. Thanks again Gerry. .

I saw Gerry, having recently experienced some lower back and other joint issues after resuming playing golf after a lay off due to joint replacement surgery. Over the past 2y I have had 1 knee replacement, 1 hip replacement and I am awaiting a 2nd knee replacement. Gerry’s approach was very scientific and very thorough. He was able to pinpoint a number of areas for me to work on and I left feeling confident that, with his help, my joint issues would improve. He followed up my visit, within the hour, by sending me a summary of what to work on. I will certainly follow up his advice and look forward both to improvements in my well being and to further informative sessions with Gerry.

Please keep on doing the exercises we discussed to ensure that the benefical, postive, changes to your health will occur and remain. Keep well, take care and look after yourself. Cheers Gerry.

I visited Gerry with shoulder pain, and general aches and creaks. Gerry did a full assessment, explaining before each step what he would do, and providing a detailed explanation afterwards of what the movement targeted and identified. Immediately after treatment, I felt less stiff and more comfortable. I was provided with exercises that would support stiffness and pain reduction in the future. I really enjoyed that the whole process was informative and Gerry prioritised education. Would highly recommend. Thanks again Gerry!

Gerry was great great. I felt so much lighter coming out than when I went in and loosened my steel tight jaw and shoulders. He explained the issues in a way that made sense and was simple to understand throughout, so I knew what he was doing and why. Gerry has a friendly manor which imeadiatly puts you at ease. He takes care to explain in detail his techniques as he assess you which helps you understand how your body works and why it sometimes doesn't. He takes a whole body approach which means he can spot underlying issues which you may not be fully aware of. I went with some shoulder pain. And as well as diagnosing and treating that he picked up on some back and posture issues I had. Once he had highlighted them and followed the exercise he recommended, my general stiffness and overall mobility have improved noticeably. Thanks, Gerry.

I have known Gerry for many years and have had the privilege of working with him and training with him on the mat. During our long history, my wife and I have visited Gerry for therapy related sessions due to long standing car crash injuries to my wife and work-related injuries to myself on two occasions. Gerry’s knowledge of the mechanics of the body and the techniques required to help and assist the body to repair itself are second to none. If you are in pain and don’t know the answer a quick phone call, reassurance and a visit might just be the unexpected outcome you have been waiting for. Well done G and all the best for the New year. I had been troubled by pain and discomfort in my lower back for ages. Had the usual physio and massages but nothing really changed then I had a consultation with Gerry. Wow! He explored my history and asked in depth questions about the issues, my health and what triggered the discomfort. He is so calm and methodical in his approach and I was immediately put at ease. The physical examination was like nothing I’d experienced and was a top to toe exploration of my range of movement, muscle function and flexibility (or lack off). Although my pain and discomfort was lower back, Gerry identified the cause was elsewhere and causing the pain. He explained everything in detail and it was a real ‘lightbulb’ moment and it all made sense. I was given some manipulation and my flexibility and range of movement was increased there and then. I felt immediate relief and had a fantastic nights sleep!Gerry has given me some simple exercises and followed this up with diagrams. I walked away as if I didn’t have a care in the world. 24 hours later and my discomfort that triggered my consultation is almost gone. I’m rebooked for a further consultation and I’d highly recommend Gerry.Moreexpand_more
