I was instructed by Wasim of Simon Bell. This is a really terrible instructor. Please do not book any lessons with him any more. Other instructors may be much better. He just wanted to make money from me. Here are his instructions:1. No gas in a roundabout. Ridiculous, isn't it? 2. No gas when start at a traffic light. Always stall and made me frustrated. 3. Change the gear down one by one when approaching a crossing. From gear 4 all the way to one in 200 meters! How difficult?4. Never stopped me when I made a mistake. He hoped I can learn myself. 5. Did not make progress fast enough and he became angry!6. Clutch at biting point and hand on hand break while waiting at a traffic light. Can you image the feeling? Booked over 40 lessons with him but made little progress. Changed to Red afterwards and made very good progress. Anyway, try your test if you feel confident. The instructors just want you to take more lessons. I passed using my own car which I bought with a provisional license. Practicing using my own car made me much more confident. Passed in the first time.Moreexpand_more
Response : Thanks toZhiwei for this review. Firstly, I would like to say that I'm sorry that you don't feel you have had the experience with us that you should have. Had you contacted me regarding this at the time then I may have been able to offer a change of instructor, additional help or try and do something to sort out the situation, it is always disappointing to receive a negative review and especially when we have not had the opportunity to help at an earlier time before it was left online. However, leaving a review is of course your choice if you feel you wish to. I just want to quickly go through the points individually. None of our instructors just want to take the money from you, we are a very busy driving school and therefore we need to turnover pupils to allow new ones to start and long term we do of course get more referrals from other people's positive experiences. The driving points mainly are just different ways of doing things between Wasim and your new instructor. No gas in a roundabout in most circumstances I would agree with as you want to remain in control around the roundabout. It does of course depend on the size of the roundabout and what gear you are in but in general and particularly at first when you are just starting out then it is better to be slower and in control. Gas at traffic lights depends on the car, in my car you would need gas but a lot of cars don't need it if the clutch is well controlled. The gears is a perfectly reasonable way of approaching a junction, in fact it used to be required. It is correct the modern way is to block change but changing individually is ok and gives a smoother drive. A lot of people actually see getting stopped as a waste of their time so we do try and keep this to a minimum unless necessary of course. Thanks, Simon.Moreexpand_more
I had a amazing instructor called Harry he helped me so much and got me ready for my test in a matter of months. He's a great guy and a fantastic teacher he made everything seem so easy and even when I found things difficult he found a way of showing me that made it easier. I would recommend this man and the driving school to anyone that needed an instructor.
Response : Thanks for taking the time to write this Natalie and well done for passing so quickly, thanks again, Simon.
I started taking my driving lessons a while back with James, I must say things went well at first but then as time progressed he started getting impatient with me, he WASTED my money as I was going to the hamilton test centre in which I advised him of, however still took me to do backward reversing up more than anything else outside wicks on london road, when this is not relevant at all at hamilton, he actually recommended me to go to another instructor and sighed constantly as well, I did go to another instructor and now I have passed and driving, I just think it was a disaster with him and wouldn't recommend this driving school as a result. Please listen as I have no other reason to do this, I am telling the truth regarding him.
Response : Thanks for taking the time to write a review of our services and of course I am sorry to hear you feel you haven't had a good service from one of our instructors. As you said, things went well at first, and I would expect the instructors teaching style to change a little as develop your driving and they move from teaching new subjects to try to deal with any driving faults you still have. However, obviously we wouldn't want this to become or seem impateient. With regards to Bay Parking, please remember we are teaching you to drive and teaching a life skill, not just to pass a test. Bay Parking is on the DSA syllabus and should be taught regardless of the test centre and is also a useful skill to know when parking in shopping centres and supermarkets. I'm sure you wouldn't expect us to miss out dual carriageways or country road if they aren't applicable to the test centre you are using as these are very important in learning to drive. As I said, I'm sorry you feel you did nothave a good experience and have contacted you by email to discuss further and try and find a solution, kind regards, Simon Bell.Moreexpand_more
I needed to pass my driving test fast in order to progress with my career. My confidence behind the wheel was pretty low and I am overly critical of everything I do. With a lot of hard work, positive thinking and the guidance of Harry I passed my test first time! Harry is exceptionally perceptive and recognises your strengths and weaknesses easily adapting each lesson to help you celebrate the breakthroughs (no matter how small) in every lesson. Harry uses a variety of different teaching styles making every lesson different and enjoyable. He is very dedicated to his pupils and this shines through with his punctuality and the time he takes to get to know you. It's not easy to fit in lessons around a full time job with changing shifts, however, Harry is always on hand and no time or day is an issue. You know you're in safe hands with Harry and I'm now looking forward to taking the next steps with driving and my career! Thanks Harry, you're a star!
I just finished my 2 week intensive course with Peter and passed my test 1st time! (i had had a couple of lessons already with anoother instructor) Peter was an excellent instructor and really made me feel at ease; when I was getting frustrated with myself he knew what to say to keep me calm! He was really patient and explained everything in a clear and understandable way which made even the trickiest of manoeuvres seem easy! I would highly recommend Peter and the Simon Bell driving school to other learner drivers cause he’s great!
Response : Thanks for your comment Lesley, much appreciated and well done! Simon.
Passed my Test with James a few weeks ago, He was able to help me with my weaknesses straight away, and he is an Amazing Instructor. I would definitely recommend this Driving school to anyone looking to Pass, or just a refresher course.
Passed my test today after lessons with Alison, who I would highly recommend to friends and family as she was a superb instructor. Alison was very patient, supportive, reliable and most of all very flexible around my working hours. If all Simon Bell instructors are as professional as Alison, I would recommend that anyone looking to have lessons take them with this driving school.
I currently am having driving lessons with Alison from Simon Bell driving school and I have to say i have nothing but praise for her. She is patient, relaxed and makes me feel at ease throughout the session. She has always been on prompt and on time for my lessons. She has been great at explaining things especially when it comes to manoeuvres. I would recommend have no hesitation in recommending Alison to my friends and family, in fact my sister also has driving lessons with the same instructor and we both fid her great! 5 stars!
I have had several lessons with Alison now and I am very satisfied with the level of support and encouragement that I have received. I would recommend this company and instructor to any one of my friends or family. I feel that Alison is very approachable and easy to talk to and i have never felt neglected during a lesson.
I decided to start my lessons again after failing my test 16 years ago and Simon put me in touch with Alison. I had no confidence having not driven for so long, however with Alison's encouragement within 4 weeks I had my theory test passed and my test booked. If Alison is ever late I always get the time at the other end of my lesson, sometimes getting a little longer. Alison is always professional and explains things clearly. I have already recommended Alison to a few friends and have already arranged for my daughter to start lessons with her. I would recommend Alison to anyone.
I had to complain about the sevice and quality of support I received whilst learning to drive with Alison from Simon Bell. After paying the amount of 560 for an intensive course, my instructor was late by at least ten minutes every day(20 on one occasion) and dropped me off early or on time on each occasion. On discussing this with friends and family they advised me to make a complaint to yourself but I felt this was a bit harsh and decided to discuss it myself with Alison on my next lesson. The next day Alison was ten minutes late as expected and I asked her if she was planning to give me any of the time back that I had paid for and hadn't been given. She was very defensive and maintained that she has to get from one place to another so cannot help being late and she reluctantly agreed to give me an extra hour that evening(which still does not make up for the time I had already missed). For the next two days, Alison was on time and I was happy I had spoken to her about it for this reason. However she was very sarcastic in my lessons from then on. On one occasion when I had just gone round a roundabout I asked if a should have gone into second gear sooner, her reply was, "well someone who was actually ready for their test would have". Considering I had my test 3 days later this was extremely discouraging. She also told me in one of my first lessons that she would give me a copy of the 'show me, tell me' questions, on asking her for this after speaking to her about her punctuality, she said 'u can get it yourself from the internet'. After two days of turning up on time, Alison went back to her old ways and was by ten minutes again, on this lesson she gave me no encouragement and told me how unusual it was for people to pass on their first test. I felt like there was no point in actually getting up for my test the next day. Ofcourse I did get up for my test with encouragement from my friends to ignore the negativity from my instructor and try my best. I was due to get picked up at 8.15 on my test day, and thinking that there was no chance my instructor would be late on the day of my test, I was outside waiting. I was surprised to receive a call then to say that she was round the corner and would be a bit late. 15 minutes later I was picked up and could not believe that she would do this on the day of my test, I was furious. As usual, there was no encouragement or good advice given before my test. I failed my test and do not blame my instructor at all for this, the nerves got the better of me and hopefully I will have better luck next time with a better more punctual and more encouraging instructor next time. I am very upset at how I was treated after paying for this course and also very surprised because of the great reviews I read on-line. I was also recommended to this school by a friend, however he did have a different instructor. When I sent this to Simon Bell himself, he replied with ver unprofessional excuses like "maybe your clocks were different" and 2we havnt had complaints about alison before".Moreexpand_more
Response : We are sorry that Alison has not been happy with the service provided. I am also especially sorry that she felt my response to the email was unprofessional or cheeky in any way. My intention was only to suggest reasons and discuss why our instructor hadn't realised/didn't think she had been late yet we had a customer clearly unhappy with the instructor's timekeeping. Also, I would like to emphasise that we did try to rectify the situation even though the instructor was in doubt as to whether her timekeeping was at fault. The customer was given an extra hour immediately and extra time before her test to compensate(although this was due to traffic less than intended which is unfortunate). There was also one instance where a lesson was rearranged for the pupil at extremely short notice by the instructor and the pupil was not required to pay or lose the time for this. On balance I honestly feel we have done everything we can to make up for this although I do apologise if my initial response was not taken as I intended,Simon Bell.Moreexpand_more
I took lessons with Simon Bell Driving School this year and have just passed my test! The tuition received was second to none, everything was made easy and better than all they were really friendly and supportive along the way. I would recommend them to anyone looking to take lessons in the future as having experienced several driving school companies these guys were the best! Peter was my driving instructor and was not only experienced and helpful but also a great laugh too! .
I want to thank both Danny and Peter of Simon Bell SOM for teaching me to drive. I did a 30 hour intensive course with Danny during the summer and thought it was worth every penny. Although I never passed first time I only needed a few extra lessons to pass. Peter continued my lessons after Danny left the driving school and I couldn't have asked for two nicer instructors. Both were very patient and encouraging and Peter has a knack of explaining manouvers - it seems so simple! ? Anyway thank you both of you I would recommend you to everyone! Glad I chose to learn with Simon Bell! .
After taking lessons with many different companies and one failed test i came across simon bell school of motoring and was put in touch with Peter Kelly who made driving seem so easy. He simplified all manoeuvre's and kept me extremely calm on the day of my test. I would recommend him to anyone.
I had failed my test previously after having lessons with a different driving school and was nervous about taking my test again. I opted for an intensive course with Simon to brush up on my weaker areas and gain confidence. Simon was a very patient and calm instructor, especially when I was getting disappointed with myself when I made mistakes sometimes. He encouraged me to take some mock tests with him to get used to test conditions. This was a really good help. I especially found him supportive and encouraging on the day of my test. I would recommend Simon, especially if you feel a lack of confidence in your driving ability.
