About Shenyoga

Sophie Shenstone has been living yoga for over 25 years, teaching regular weekly classes in Bath, Uk for over 16 years, including popular Beginners Hatha courses, mixed level Hatha, Intermediate Hatha Breath Flow, as well as Pregnancy and Post Natal classes. Shenyoga is a form of flowing, breath-focus, Hatha yoga developed over the decades, starting initially with Integral Yoga training. Inspired by diverse trainings and teachers, and an insuppressible creativity, Sophie blends meditative flow with intuitive body work; a mix of core strength and dynamic flow, with passive, deeply releasing postures, finding the space to journey inward to the roots of yoga - understanding our true Nature.

As well as teaching regular weekly classes, Shenyoga offers full day retreats at countryside venues, and yoga holidays including a week long off-grid, glamping yoga adventure in the mountains of Portugal, staying in yurts and bell tents, with forest mediations, daily yoga, living simply in the lap of Nature. Check the website for further information on dates and prices.

Sophie Shenstone offers holistic intuitive massage treatments based on Shiatsu and Thai Yoga Massage, blended with deep tissue massage. Each treatment is unique to the individual, using the 'listening' and 'tuning in' that comes from Shiatsu training, techniques including palming, rocking, proprioceptive play, stretching and rotation of limbs, movement of the body as well as massage strokes and breath work. Using meridians and pressure points to move energy, as well as working intuitively and physically into tight muscles, Sophie likes to blend the bodywork with yoga breath-awareness, taking you into a deeply meditative space while your body unwinds.

'Shenyoga and Massage' works at The Practice Rooms, 26, Upper Borough Walls, in central Bath, and various venues including The New Oriel Hall, Larkhall, Bath. Sophie is also an eco-friendly gardener and Environmental Artist, with a decade's experience designing and implementing living willow sculptures, mainly in schools. This includes living willow tunnels, arches, teepees, igloos, trellises, 'fedges', story domes, children's dens and play spaces, and living chairs. For information, quotes and possibilities, please contact Sophie, bearing in mind that the best time for creating structures is November to the end of February. Sophie is also available for living willow 'maintenance'.

Shenyoga is also available for Corporate events such as Hen Do yoga and massage, and yoga in the workplace for office staff.

We really appreciate Sophie's yoga teaching. Her approach is always fresh and alive, based on her on-going practice. She offers a range of versions of different postures, so everyone can work at a suitable 'level' for them. Sophie provides an introduction to the meditative roots of yoga so people can engage with that if they wish to do so. Highly recommended.
Response : Thank you . And I am grateful for the committed students who have attended regularly for over a decade! . . We have evolved on our yoga journey together, through the seasons of nature and life, the challenges and ups and downs, and all of us sharing the joy and the enquiry, giving strength in empathy and connexion.

I have been going to Sophie's classes now for a few years. I have been practicing Yoga for 20 years and a good Yoga teacher is hard to find. Sophie really delivers where others do not. Her approach is consistent, varied, heartfelt, spiritual and deeply relaxing with some challenges along the way - but we are encouraged always to listen to ourselves and adapt as necessary to ensure the experience is maximised, supported and appropriate for individual needs. Sophie is excellent at being able to confidently and sensitively hold the Yoga space and guides the class dependent on the energy of the room. This is such an important aspect in Yoga and I wholeheartedly recommend her classes. My most nourishing and transcendent Yoga classes ever, have been with Sophie.

We started Sophie's Monday night beginners yoga class last year which meant we could start from scratch with the easy options and learned to stretch ourselves little by little and develop at our own pace. We liked Sophie's non judgemental approach and the readings and explanations that went with practicing the poses. We knew after just a couple of classes this was going to be a new habit! We especially enjoy the breathing, and the relaxation at the end. I've also tried the shen Massage twice which was very restorative.

After several failed attempts have finally found a yoga class that really works for me. Sophie is an excellent teacher, the pace of the class, level of sensitive safe instruction and inclusive manner are a winning formula for beginners. Even on dark, damp cold winter nights I'm truely disappointed if I miss a session. Have so enjoyed it, hoping to go on another yoga holiday this year.

I have been coming to Sophie's classes for over a year and also been to one of her retreats - she is a fantastic teacher who manages to get the right blend of fitness, focus and spirituality into each class. Each week is something new to look forward to as Sophie will tailor the class depending on the people who are attending. Little touches like impromptu readings and sometimes candles and incense make this class a real treat for me and essential for staying happy and grounded in a busy world!

Sophie is an excellent teacher of yoga. We have been going to classes and day retreats for 10 years. After a yoga session with Sophie we experience a true sense of well-being. Her retreats are genuine opportunities to slow down and observe. Sophie generously shares from her on-going explorations in yoga and other approaches to life. She expresses a strong connection to the natural world and seasons. We fully recommend Sophie as a yoga teacher.

I've attended Sophie's yoga class and had a massage from her and in both cases she was attentive, adaptive and lighthearted. She doesn't stick rigidly to 'rules' in either of her areas, rather adapting intuitively to the needs of the people she's working with. I highly recommend her.
Response : Thanks Vik, I hope that is my hallmark - valuing intuition over the prescriptive, and encouraging awareness and self trust. By 'light' I guess you mean not too serious and dogmatic. Rather than light, feathery touch. As some of my massages are deep tissue, so not that light! And a lot of the yoga is pretty strong, but gentle in attitude! . Thanks for your insights!
