Independent Driving School

Having just passed my driving test I wanted to write this review to thank Adam (at Independent Driving School) for all of his time, patience and excellent tuition. Adam took me from starting out as feeling very anxious about driving to where I am now having passed on my first attempt. I would highly recommend Adam to anyone looking for an instructor within the local area.

Huge thanks to Adam at Independent Driving for helping me to pass first time with only one minor by giving great tips and tricks on how to pass. Adam was always on time and really friendly which made the lessons fun and exciting. I recommend Adam to anyone who wants to pass their test.

I had lessons with Jason and he was amazing. From the very first lesson he was patient, kind and encouraging - this made learning to drive a great experience for me. He explained everything clearly and was calm and helpful when I needed assistance. Thanks to him, I have now passed my driving test and I feel very confident and prepared!

When selecting a Driving School, I searched for an organisation with responsive communication, a positive attitude towards students, flexible hours and market rate pricing. Independent Driving School delivered highly in these categories, particularly in their attitude towards students; being put at ease with good communication, clean and serviced vehicles and enjoyable conversation allows for steady and frictionless progress. Learning with IDS and, in particular, Adam D. , was a breeze with his teaching style putting me at ease and by providing useful, constructive feedback. I would recommend IDS for all learners- when I passed my test, my instructor Adam D. Appeared genuinely pleased, demonstrating the level of effort put into their education.

I wanted to say thank you to my instructor Jason helping me pass first time! He is really friendly and made me feel less anxious behind the wheel. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn to drive.

Matt was incredibly helpful and supportive with learning how to drive. As someone who struggled with getting to grips with the processes and manoeuvres he took everything step by step and really helped me by making steps visual on the iPad. My daughter found Neil to be very positive and supportive, giving excellent advice about driving without overwhelming her. Thank you to Neil Johnston for helping me pass my driving test on the first go! He was always helpful and allowed me to take things at my own pace, while always making sure that I understood the basics as well as general driving. He was able to identify bits that I was finding tricky and made sure that I was fully prepared for the test, and even gave me some tips on how to calm my nerves. I highly recommend Independent Driving and their method of teaching.

As a 78-year-old, I needed help with driving a hands only Pushpull system. I found this lovely lady (Chrissy) who was everything I needed! Knowledgeable and understanding and prior to driving, instructed me with all that I needed to know to use this system. The hour long driving lesson flew by. I tried all types of road conditions et cetera, very very good, and from this I have been able to gain enough confidence to know how to use a similar system fitted to my car and is working well, so fantastic service! While we were driving, Chrissy left my wife with a cup of coffee and let her sit in her lounge. How lovely! So, once again, many thanks Chrissy. .

I have had lessons with independent driving instructor, Matt Hitt since December 2024 and all throughout learning the basics of driving to refining professional driving techniques he has been incredible. Super friendly, very reasonable and knowledgeable of everything to do with learning to drive. I highly recommended Matt as a super friendly, talkative, and top tier driving instructor who supported me in difficult lessons and got me through my pass today with only 2 minors. Where do I begin? I got in touch with Independent Driving School Bournemouth after a horrible experience with a previous automatic instructor who was an absolute pessimist. My first lesson with Jason Clark made me feel relaxed and confident. He was very patient and never ever shouted at me or told me off. As a mum of 2, I turn up to my lessons very stressed sometimes and he would say something funny that would make me laugh so loud, I forget how stressed I was. His mantra was “don’t rush”. Adam was an absolutely fantastic instructor. His depth of road knowledge and the way he explains and teaches things just clicked for me straight away. His online video content is also a real game changer - especially if you’re not familiar with Poole and its many quirks. I passed my test first time this week, which was a massive relief, particularly with the current backlog for retakes. I genuinely don’t think I could have done it without his guidance and calm, confidence-building approach.
