About Eastbourne Cycles

Eastbourne Cycles, your trusted local bike experts based in Pevensey Bay. Providing comprehensive bike servicing and repairs for customers in Eastbourne, Pevensey, and nearby areas, we specialize in maintaining e-bikes with Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano, and GoCycle systems. Whether you need a quick puncture fix or a complete motor replacement, Eastbourne Cycles is here to keep you riding smoothly and safely.

My journey into the bike business began in 2012 with a Renault Master van, full to the nines with bike parts and industry specific tools. I offered mobile bike servicing and set up at Langney Market twice a week to offer a pop up cycle repair shop, and used bikes for sale.

By 2014 I'd moved into The Drill Hall at Westham and was now selling new bikes from Orbea, Merida and Raleigh, as well as used bikes. In 2014 Cycle Tech Eastbourne became a Limited Company and began to offer bikes through the Cycle to Work Scheme. I was also joined by Bartek, a brilliant mechanic, from whom I learned a great deal in the 2 years he was with me.

In October 2019 I moved to Anderida on Wallsend Road in Pevensey Bay, a higher profile, much nicer building with significant parking on site. A few months later 'Lock Down' started and business was spectacular for a few months. At the height of it there were 4 of us working full time, selling and fixing bikes. Parts became scarce, bikes became non-existant and by October there were just 2 of us working there, still busy with repairs, but no bikes to sell.

In 2021 I moved to the exclusive sale of electric bikes, offering a range from Haibike, Lapierre and Raleigh. By October of 2021 I was solo again. 2022 saw better availability of bikes and I had a decent year, but October saw a significant slow down, and a very quiet 6 months through to Easter 2023.

By the summer of 2023 it was becoming clear that retailing electric bikes wasn't going to support the business, there was significant discounting of bikes online, and often bikes were being sold for less than I could buy them from my suppliers for. In October 2023 I took the decision to close Cycle Tech Eastbourne Ltd, and move out of Anderida.

Eastbourne Cycles is my new venture, based purely on bicycle servicing and repairs. I've retained all of my suppliers, so can still offer servicing on Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, and GoCycle e-bikes.

In January 2026 I moved into 39 Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay, BN24 6HL. A well equipped workshop where I'm offering quality servicing and repairs, with a quick turn-around to keep you moving. I’m equipped to service e-bikes with Bosch, Shimano, and Yamaha electric systems. I also offer service, warranty, and repair on Go Cycle products.

?Right from the first day I’ve traded in second hand bikes. Always offering quality used bikes, that have been thoroughly serviced, and offered with a 3 month fair use warranty. No short cuts are taken when preparing these bikes, and I’m often asked whether they might be new.

The story continues.

Do you offer bike collection and delivery?
Yes, we provide free bike collection and delivery services in the Eastbourne, Pevensey, Hailsham, and Bexhill areas for your convenience.

What are your opening times?
The shop is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 5pm, and on Wednesday from 9am to 2pm. Please don't think that I go home outside these hours!
My collect and return service operates from 7:30am to 8:30am and from 5:30pm to 7:30pm most days, and I've even been known to collect/ drop off on Sunday evenings.
If I don't have collections/ returns to do I'm often at the workshop passed 5pm. Just call, and I'll try to help.

What types of bikes do you repair?
We repair all types of bikes, from traditional 'analogue' bikes to modern e-bikes. Whether it's a puncture or a motor replacement, we've got you covered.

How much do you charge?
We are very reasonable compared to other properly qualified and insured mechanics. Every bike is treated seperately, and a written estimate provided for agreement, before you commit to any work. A Basic service, for a non electric bike, is £35. E-Bike servicing from £60.

Can you bleed my hydraulic brakes?
Probably yes. I can bleed hydraulic brakes from Shimano, Magura, SRAM, Avid, Tektro and Clarks. Including road, hybrid and mountain bikes. Please bear in mind though that bleeding does not resolve all brake issues, particularly if the brakes are older, or of low quality. Sometimes it's more economical to replace the brakes than to bleed them. I'm always happy to discuss options.

How often should I service my bike?
A general rule of thumb is to have your bike fully serviced annually, or every 6 months if you ride frequently in harsh conditions (rain, mud, salt). A professional, in-depth service should be done every 1,000–2,000 miles (or 6–12 months), while basic tune-ups, such as adjusting brakes and gears, should be done every 3-6 months.

Key Service Intervals and Tips:

New Bikes: Should get a first service after 6–8 weeks to adjust parts that have settled. This is especially necessary with online purchased bikes, where final assembly has been done at home.

Daily/Before Every Ride: Check tire pressure, brakes, and chain lubrication.

Weekly (or 50-100 miles): Clean the bike and lubricate the chain. Check for loose bolts.

Every 3–6 Months (Minor Service): Check correct torque of bolts/ fixings, check brake pads/cables, and ensure gears shift smoothly.

Every 12 Months (Major Service): Comprehensive overhaul, including bearing checks and drivetrain, check/replace worn components.

Hydraulic Brakes: Hydraulic brakes that use DOT fluid should be serviced every 12 months. Brakes that use mineral oil should be serviced every 24 months.

Signs Your Bike Needs Immediate Service:

Gears: Skipping, clicking, or not shifting correctly.

Brakes: Squeaky, slow, or weak, requiring more pull.

Noises: Grinding, rattling, or squeaking.

Components: Rusty chain or worn-out tires.
