About Bowen-by-Mena
I have 33yrs experience as a qualified nurse working in the NHS until 2015, working in the specialty of Haematology which included Oncology experience.
Bowen is a gentle therapy, using rolling moves over specific muscles and tendons. There are short breaks between the moves, to allow the body to respond and start it's own healing process, this is unique to the Bowen Technique.
There is no hard pressure or manipulation involved, Bowen therapy is not a massage.
It is not intended to replace conventional medicine in any way.
I am also now accredited in the practice of McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR): this is a gentle therapy working directly on scars to release the tensions they hold, and importantly, treating clients with symptoms in the body that they may not have associated with the tensions in the scar.
For example; a Caesarian Section scar may cause long term back problems as I discovered with a client who volunteered to be a case study for me. She had assumed her back pain was related to her job, but after 19yrs is now pain free.
As a Bowen Practitioner and Accredicted MSTR Practitioner, I am registered with the College of Bowen Studies and fully insured with Balens Insurance Brokers.
It has been reported that 3 treatments give best results with Bowen therapy. I recommend for a new problem that the first two treatments are 5-10 days apart, then the third treatments 2-3 weeks later, allowing for change to start to take place.
With long standing issues, I suggest three treatments 5-10 days apart then a further treatment 4-5 weeks later.
Whichever timescale is used, and on agreement with a client top up treatments approximately 4months later would be planned.
I have had success with clients with a wide range of problems, such as:
High blood pressure, Fibromyalgia, MS symptoms Stroke symptoms Pain and joint problems Anxiety and emotional issues Migraine Baby colic.
Hormone imbalance.
Testimonials:
KD- "I am amazed at how Bowen has significantly lowered my blood pressure after only a few sessions, now I no longer have to consider medication, I am delighted"
BB-to her Pilates teacher " thank you for introducing me to Mena and the Bowen technique. I cannot believe how much better I feel after 4 sessions. You noticed how much the mobility of my knees has improved, but also my shoulders and feet feel more supple and best of all, I am sleeping through the night instead of waking up at 2hrly intervals as I've done for the last 15 years. The sessions are very relaxing and best of all, you get to keep your clothes on.
The Bowen technique is safe and non invasive. Full assessment is given at first session and revisited through discussion prior to subsequent treatments.
I work from the Pilates Studio in Yarm, and The House, 283, Acklam Road. I sometimes treat from home in the evening to accommodate those who are only free after work. I occasionally treat in a clients home if they have mobility issues.
