I contacted Neal in January/February to fit a CarPlay system and a reverse camera in my car. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Neal was unable to fit the reverse camera (the main reason I wanted the CarPlay system) and only told me this at the end of the job. He explained that the camera I had wouldn’t be able to be fitted properly so would be off centre and said he would source another one for me at an extra cost. When Neal left, I discovered the inside handles of my boot were snapped and broken, and he had tried to cover this up by gluing them back together without mentioning it to me. Before Neal could come back to fit the camera, my car completely stopped working. It turned out the CarPlay system had been installed incorrectly, leaving the dashboard light permanently on and draining my battery. My breakdown cover was voided because the car was now classed as “modified. ” I ended up missing two days of work because Neal showed no urgency to correct his mistake. Neal eventually came back to remove the CarPlay. I returned the unit to the supplier, who tested it on the same model of car and confirmed it worked perfectly when installed correctly. They offered to talk Neal through the process but at this point, I didn’t want him to touch the eletrics in my car again. Throughout this, Neal was very reluctant to accept responsibility. He did admit to trying to cover up the damage to my car but was dismissive and slow to respond to messages. After months of chasing him, he eventually agreed to source the parts he had broken, but it took around six months to even get that far (see below screenshot of timescale of ignored messages). Neal finally came to repair the damage he had caused and after he had left I had noticed the handles were on the wrong way- the grip is at the top so you can’t use the handles to close the boot- I made Neal aware, but again he takes no responsibility for his work and has told me that’s the way the handles were….In total, I paid £120 for an installation that caused damage, cost me time and money, and voided my breakdown cover. I then paid someone else £65 to fit the reverse camera– inside the boot, exactly where Neal had told me it couldn’t be done. While Neal seems like a nice enough person, I personally wouldn’t recommend him due to the damage to my car, the lack of honesty, and the refusal to accept fault when things went wrong.Moreexpand_more
Just had Neal from autolectrix repair a fault with my adblue warning light. I had previously taken the car to my usual garage and they said it's not possible to reset my Peugeot 508. It would need to go to a Peugeot dealer. They said it could cost anywhere between £600 and £3000 to repair. Neal fixed it within 45 minutes and charged £95. What an excellent result. I highly recommend Neal who trades as autolectrix Caerphilly. He is mobile only and will travel to you if you're within 20 miles of Caerphilly.
Neil had been servicing all our vehicle electrical needs for six years, he has worked on my 1978 MG MIDGET, and more recently my Boxer Motorhome, he recently fixed an issue which TWO RAC mechanics admitted was beyond their competence, and after the RAC told us the cost to fix it would be more than £1000 (Computer System) and the best they could do for us was to arrange to get the Motorhome to the main dealer, NIEL identified the problem, (NOT what the RAC diagnosed? A laugh if it was'nt so serious) Neil fixed it and did work to prevent the same thing happening again, problem identified within ten minutes of his arrival and fixed within an hour or so, all outside my home and at a real fraction of the cost of the RAC advice to me to get it 'fixed'. ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE and would not hesitate for one second to recommend him. .
He Couldn't be bothered to turn up on time. Text me 15 minutes later than agreed time to say he would be another 15 minutes late. No apology in text for being late. Poor service. Had to go elsewhere.
I have used Neal twice in the past month ( July 2019 ) - for two different vehicles. He fitted somewhat complicated ( for me anyway ) new LED dip beam bulbs to my 12 year old Lexus GS450 hybrid. They give a far superior light and cut-off than originals. He then came back to investigate and repair faulty reversing sensors on my Wife's Nissan Leaf - for less than the original quote. Neal is honest and professional, would recommend and certainly use again without hesitation.
Neal fixed a problem I had on a Citroen with the lights. He was easy to contact and turned up on time. The fact that he fixed the problem at my home was really convenient as it meant I didn't have the hassle of taking the car to a garage. He understood the problem and what I had done to try to fix it. He methodically worked to find the fault and using his diagnostic tools he checked whether there were any other problems. In total he worked for about 3 hours and the cost was very reasonable. A nice, pleasant, professional guy who I would not hesitate to recommend.
I own a Peugeot 407 which had electronic problems until I got in touch with Neal who was very professional and explained everything in layman's terms. Very reasonable rates very professional job would not hesitate to contact him again. Would recommend him to anyone. Thank you so much Neal.
Neal has done a great job on my T5, fitting a switch to allow me to turn off the reverse parking sensors when towing. He spent a lot of time with me discussing the options available based on the electrics of the van and the final job is spot on. You couldn't ask for a more courteous, friendly and professional guy!
Another professional job carried out by Neal. Diagnosed, investigated and sourced the relevant parts for my BMW 316ti. Replaced the passenger door lock actuator and rear PDC sensors. Came to place of work to carry out the work, very convenient for me and would highly recommend Neal to anybody struggling to find somebody of his quality and experience and if I have any further problems myself would use him again.
Called Neal out after my problematic Clio had yet another electrical fault. Bit of a wait to get an appointment but guess he's a popular guy! He solved the problem immediately at a cheap cost and was helpful when I emailed him with any queries. Would book him again in a flash if I had to again. Highly recommend.
Had a faulty heater blower and spent the last week or two scraping once from both sides of the windscreen. Called Neal who came just a few days later and repaired on site. Nice fella and a professional service. Very reasonable. I'm now blasting the heat and loving his work. Highly recommended. Wayne Pengam.
We have used Autolectrix on two occasions now and both times we have been delighted with the outcome. Neal has responded very quickly to our requests for help and made himself available at a time convenient for us. He communicates well in a language that even a non-technical person such as myself can understand and offers excellent value for money. We'll be sure to use him again the next time something else goes wrong with our old car!
I had a Sat navigation fitted in my Fiat punting done a very neat job, there was issue with my mileage flashing due to getting a sat nav which doesn't agree with my car. I texted him about this and he came to check this out as well and explained why this is happening. I am so greatful. I will recommend to family and friends! Turned up on time when he said! Keeps to his word. Very reliable!
