Adam Steele Driving School

I started lessons back in May 2025 with Adam and a year later I passed first time! He is incredibly patient and calm during each lesson, pushing me where needed and listening to all my questions (no matter how silly they felt! ). Having heard lots of horror stories about driving instructors from friends and family over the years, I cannot recommend Adam enough!

I would highly recommend Adam Steele as a driving instructor, I felt the value of the lessons were very good and the level of service very high. I felt at ease and fully prepared for my test day. He was very calm and informative. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the York area.

Adam is a great instructor and I had a great experience learning to drive with him. They were patient, calm, and always explained things in a clear and easy-to-understand way, which really helped build my confidence on the road. Even when I made mistakes, they stayed supportive and focused on helping me improve rather than making me feel stressed.

Adam was a really helpful instructor who guided me through most of my driving up until the test. He is very patient and explanatory when you make a mistake I had full confidence when going into test. I fully recommend to all levels of learners.

Incredibly helpful with the patience of a saint. I had lessons with Adam for about 10 months having previously learned with another instructor for a year and done trial sessions with a couple of instructors in the interim. Throughout our lessons he was extremely helpful, with very practical guidance on how to improve and fix issues with my driving. What stood out is his pragmatism and flexibility with the way we did lessons, tailoring the approach on each lesson to build on what I'd learned previously and was able to handle that day. Throughout the process he was always calm, constructive, and incredibly patient when I was struggling. Would highly recommend for anyone starting driving, or looking for a new instructor/ refresher lessons.

I couldn't recommend Adam more - patience of a saint, always calm, and somehow never fazed no matter what chaos I threw his way. Always on time and always in a good mood. If its summer he'll be in shorts, if its not summer he'll also be in shorts, if its snowing he'll be in jeans (as it should be). Every lesson was a good time, and thanks to him, I passed my test first time without a single minor! Even the examiner (who, let’s be honest, not known for smiles) said it was a pleasure and that Adam had done an amazing job—so it’s not just me! If you’re looking for a driving instructor, I would pick Adam 100 times over. He's a great teacher, and I would highly recommended!

I couldn’t recommend Adam enough to anyone starting lessons. He is extremely patient, calm and encouraging. My friend recommended Adam as I was nervous to start lessons again and he was fantastic from the beginning. He explained everything clearly, taking the time to make sure I understood, and made me feel that I could ask any questions. He is reliable and always early for lessons. Adam has helped me to build my confidence which has now allowed me to pass my practical test, which he went out of his way to arrange as I had booked it last minute.

Adam is a great driving instructor pushing me to be the best driver I can be, always patient and reassuring throughout the lesson also always being early and able to accommodate for last minute lesson ect.

Adam is a great instructor. Always keeps you within your comfort zone while pushing you to improve each lesson. Arrives early or on time for lessons and went out of his way to accommodate a last minute test that I booked. Good value for money and a very nice bloke; highly recommend.

Couldn't recommend Adam enough to anyone - he couldn't have done anymore! From the first lesson right to my test he remained extremely calm, patient and encouraging throughout. Being someone who doubts themselves, Adam's encouragement was hugely valued. I wouldn't have had a chance at passing first time (which I did with confidence! ) without his continuous support. His welcoming/kind approach made it extremely easy to ask any questions I had, always explaining them thoroughly and clearly. Along with this, came a lot of time which he gave so generously - including outside of lessons as well if I had any doubts/questions. Very reliable in terms of punctuality/dates etc - never had a change of plan once! He went above and beyond any 'expectation' I had about driving lessons and was truly the biggest help to me!I greatly enjoyed my driving lessons with Adam - and as said above, he quite literally couldn't have done anymore. I just passed my driving practical first time with Adam and he's been great from start to finish. I started learning as a nervous 30 year old and Adam was so patient and considerate. His flexibility with lesson times made it easy to not miss a lesson and I swear the man never takes time off! By the time I went to my test (approx. 10 months after starting but I had no indepedent driving with another party to practice), I felt confident and prepared. Thanks Adam!

Adam is an absolutely great driving instructor. I was a very nervous / anxious driver, and he helped me gain a lot of confidence, and made me feel at ease when learning to drive. He is patient, calm and just a genuinely lovely guy. When I moved out of York (due to Covid-19), I had to take my test elsewhere - Adam stayed in touch and continued to help me where he could. Adam is a brilliant driving instructor, friendly, with a very calm demeanor - perfect for anyone who is nervous about getting started. My development was well paced, I progressed with every lesson and never felt that I was in a situation that I was not comfortable with. As with many other reviewers here, I passed the test at the first attempt. Adam teaches people to drive, not just to scrape through a test. This will set you up for better, safer driving in the long-term, and will probably get you fully licensed sooner than taking tests too early. Adam was on top of all the basic but important stuff: Lessons were arranged with clear communication, he turned up on time, every time, from a place that was convenient for me, and his car was clean and pleasant to be in. My lessons in Summer-Autumn 2019 were taught in a manual petrol-powered Suzuki Swift.
