Western Mechanical Handling UK Ltd (WMH) designs, builds and supports production line automation machinery for the food and pharmaceutical industries. Based in Cornwall, South West England, this family owned business has been helping food producers automate and streamline their production processes for nearly 50 years.

Turnkey Solutions.
WMH is proud to offer turnkey solutions based on sound engineering principles. WMH offers a complete end to end package from initial concept design, through manufacture, wiring and programming to installation, commissioning and after sales service and spares support. Our machines are manufactured at our purpose-built facilities in Cornwall where raw metal is transformed into working machines.

Building Long-Term Relationships.
At WMH aim to we aim to build long-term relationships with our clients so that we can help you grow and develop. We want to be able to support you long term so you know if you need to modify or upgrade your line at any time WMH will be there to support you. We have several sites still using machinery installed over thirty years ago, doing the job they were designed for. WMH has supported this customer over the years by supplying spare parts as needed and hope to be able to provide them with a new line when the time arises. Another client has completed a phased upgrade of their depositing and oven loading systems. WMH was able to retrofit the latest pressure-less collation systems into the existing oven loading system to improve flexibility, throughput and product quality. This was coupled with an upgrade to the drives on their 20-year-old depositing systems to add servo drives for improved accuracy.

Increasing Productivity and Quality.
Working with WMH can help you increase your production throughput and quality, as has been the case for a small manufacturer of tray-bake cakes. Installation of a WMH cutting cell has enabled them to scale up production to meet demand without the need to expand their workforce. A side benefit of this added automation has been to improve the aesthetic finish of the product and reduce breakages.

Core Areas of Expertise.
WMH has a number of core areas of expertise into which most projects fall. However when more specialised solutions are required, WMHs design engineering team have the engineering expertise to develop novel solutions from scratch. Some such projects include: stacking pancakes, collating yogurt sticks, loading cheese into crates and counting and packing bacon rashers.

Assembly Lines.
Whether you are making ready meals or baked goods WMH has an assembly line solution that fits the bill. Built to be meet your needs with service connection points giving flexibility to adapt and change to your changing requirements.

Depositing Systems.
Designed for accurate dosing of smooth liquids and batters WMH designs and builds multi-lane depositing systems for accurate dosing of oil, batter, jelly and more. Servo-controlled drives coupled with touch-screen user interfaces enables our depositors to repeatably and accurately dose jelly into pork pies and oil and batter into Yorkshire puddings. Ensuring your products are always within specification, reducing the cost of waste and give-aways.

Oven Loading and Unloading Systems.
Investment in a travelling oven is a big commitment to any business and to get the required pay-back requires it to be loaded and unloaded with care and efficiency. WMH has a range of collation and loading solutions available for handling either individual or trayed products into and out of your oven to achieve the manufacturers specified throughputs.

Spiral Chiller/Freezer Loading and Unloading Systems.
Freezers and chillers need to be loaded with care in order to achieve the correct level of cooling for quality of your finished product. WMH recognises this and works with you and your vendor to develop a solution that ensures your product is loaded to make best use of space and cooling capacity. Where your freezer has a high-level outfeed WMH will ensure products are conveyed down to working height in the most controlled way to keep you product in good condition and in a format suitable for downstream automation.

Grilling and Browning.
WMH inline industrial grilling units are designed to add colour to the top of ready meals and convenience foods without increasing the core temperature of the product. Whether you are producing ready meals or sliced vegetables these units are an important addition to your line.

Ultrasonic Cutting Machines.
Designed to be flexible and adaptable, WMH cutting machines offer either stand-alone or inline solutions to your cutting needs. Ideal for cakes, pies, cheese, traybakes and more these machines can be programmed to cut a variety of patterns whether square, rectangular or square depending on your current needs with the flexibility to change as your products change.

End of Line Packing Systems.

Tray and Box Handling and Palletising Systems.
Integrating with you end of line packing operations and integrating box erectors or tray denesters. WMH can help streamline your packing and palletising to ensure the correct boxes arrive at the correct pallet with as little operator input as possible.
