I am a highly qualified teacher with a PGCE in Mathematics. I hold both a PhD and BSc (1st Class) degree in Mathematics, and have over 20 years of experience teaching in schools, colleges, and as a private tutor. Additionally, I have 12 years of experience as an examiner, and possess an Enhanced DBS certificate.
My Mathematical Background.
I possess extensive and in-depth expertise in Mathematics, having obtained a Doctorate degree in the subject from the University of East Anglia. As a researcher, I worked alongside fellow academics to expand mathematical knowledge through my contributions. Additionally, I have honed several other skills such as writing academic papers for publication, presenting at academic conferences, teaching Mathematics and Statistics at the undergraduate level, and grading student assessments.
I have a year of experience in community education, where I served as a part-time teacher of Mathematics for students with special educational needs.
My team taught a group of young adults with a range of learning disabilities. We covered both GCSE and pre-GCSE level Mathematics. Despite the difficulties and challenges, I was able to adapt and deliver my best effort in those circumstances.
My time in the field of education has given me a deeper understanding of the varied communities in London. I have gained ample experience teaching pupils from different ethnic backgrounds, including Afro-Caribbean students in both South and North London, Asian students in East London, refugees in North London, and white working class and middle class students in the East End and Surrey. My most recent role at DLD College London was in a highly diverse international community, with students from all around the world and from different cultural backgrounds.
My initial teaching experience was at The Archbishop Michael Ramsey Technology College in Camberwell, where I taught Mathematics to students at Key Stage 3 and 4. Many of the students were disengaged and reluctant to participate, but over time I was able to overcome these barriers by honing my classroom management skills and ensuring each student was focused. I also devoted a considerable amount of time to working with students outside of regular classes. My second teaching placement was at the Coombe Girls’ School in Surrey, a highly regarded Beacon school. This experience allowed me to refine my teaching approach, making connections across the subject, and using effective questioning techniques to enhance students' understanding and learning. Additionally, I was involved in facilitating circle time sessions and providing Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) through my role as a tutor.
I worked as a full-time mathematics teacher at The Royal Docks Community School, a challenging school located in East London. I taught Mathematics at both Key Stage 3 and 4, incorporating the use of interactive whiteboards and various computer software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I was responsible for creating exams and teaching Foundation GCSE, as well as evaluating coursework. I have experience in producing reports on student performance, including assessments of academic achievement, behavior, and attendance. Additionally, I served as a co-tutor, providing both academic and pastoral support to students and their families. I also took on short-term teaching positions at Beal High School in Ilford and The Greig City Academy in Hornsey, where I taught GCSE students and younger students, quickly building strong relationships with my students.
Recently, I have gained extensive experience in teaching A-level courses, including Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Mechanics at Crossways Academy and DLD College London. I am proud to have helped many of my students achieve outstanding results, enabling them to attend universities of their choice, including prestigious universities such as Oxbridge. I encouraged and motivated high-performing students from all academic levels to participate in Maths Club, which provided opportunities for them to broaden their thinking and compete in UKMT competitions. At DLD College London, I was fortunate to work alongside a highly talented mathematics faculty, whose results were consistently impressive. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I adapted by delivering live lessons through the Canvas platform, honing my online teaching abilities.
As a Personal Tutor for Year 13 students, I have sharpened my abilities in writing exceptional UCAS references that provide comprehensive information about my students, highlighting their strengths and achievements regardless of their background. I have also served as an examiner for Key Stage 3 SATS and for O-level and A-level exams with Cambridge International Examination Board. More recently, I have become an A-level examiner for Pearson Edexcel and now work as an online mathematics tutor.0 FreeIndex Reviews
