About Torii Karate Leeds
Torii Karate Leeds is based at Brigshaw High School in Kippax and serves families from Kippax, Garforth, Allerton Bywater and the wider East Leeds area. We provide structured karate classes for children from age five, teenagers and adults, teaching a mix of basic techniques, kata, partner drills and light sparring. Lessons are designed to improve confidence, coordination, self discipline and overall fitness while keeping training enjoyable and safe.
Classes are led by chief instructor Remi Jurgilaitis, an active member of the JKS England squad and a British Champion with European and World level medals. Students benefit from high quality technical coaching, modern training methods and a clear pathway from complete beginner through to black belt. Those who want to go further are supported to take regular gradings and, when ready, to enter local and international competitions.
Torii Karate Leeds has a friendly, family atmosphere where parents, children and siblings often train together. New starters are introduced carefully so they feel comfortable from their first session, and parents are welcome to stay and watch. We keep class sizes sensible so every student gets attention, and we work with local schools and the community to promote respect, good behaviour and healthy, active lifestyles across Kippax and the surrounding areas.
As well as our main base in Kippax, Torii Karate Leeds also runs classes at Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy in Middleton. This dojo serves families in Middleton, Belle Isle and the surrounding South Leeds area who are looking for a local, high quality karate club. The venue has good parking, easy access and a bright sports hall that is ideal for children’s and family classes.
Our weekly timetable is designed to keep things simple for families. At Brigshaw High School in Kippax we train on Monday and Wednesday evenings, with a younger group from 5.40pm to 6.30pm and an older group from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. At Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy in Middleton we follow the same pattern on Thursday evenings. The first class is offered as a free trial so new students can experience training before joining.
