About Toad Hall

Established in the latter half of the second Elizabethan era, Toad Hall has hundreds of hours of experience in the Brass and Lead based pub game industry and creates bespoke Toad Tables for pubs, clubs and Toad players throughout the Toad playing world and beyond. The business is situated in Lewes, which is pretty much about dead centre of the Universe as far as Toads is concerned.

The Toad tables we create are built to last and withstand the rigours of years of abuse, or having heavy brass toads thrown at them on a daily basis. The tables themselves are generally either of the traditional 4-legged style in a range of solid timbers (Oak, Ash, Walnut, Pine) or of the more contemporary Box design which lends itself to customisation and decoration.
The Lead tops are cast in our own particular mould by Heaps, Arnold and Heaps in Rotherham. They are solid cast Lead, 345mm x 345mm, 1/2 inch thick throughout and weigh in just under 20kg.
Each Table comes complete with a set of 4 solid brass Toads.

Toad Hall has supplied dozens of tables in and around Sussex, including The Gardeners Arms (Lewes), The Snowdrop Inn (Lewes), The Victoria (Eastbourne), The Abergavenny Arms (Rodmell), The Black Duck (Warbleton), Southdown Sports Club (Lewes), Crockstead Hotel (Halland), The Smugglers Inn (Alfriston) as well as many non-league 'casuals'.

Many League players have also ordered tables and Leads in order to perfect their tossing technique in the comfort of their own homes. Teams include the DCC, Laughing Fish and the Abergavenny Arms and the Ram Inn.

The quality of Simon's toad tables is incredibly high. He plays himself so he knows what he's doing. He was very happy tailoring one to my suggestions. But I'd have been happy with any of the tables Ive seen that he's made. He's organised a couple of tops and sets of toads for me too.

Simon produced a fantastic table for me very quickly, in fact he has made two for me recently one for Team Abergavenny, and one for me to have at home. Both have been well made and look great.

Simon made me a well crafted ash toad table some while ago. The lead top is of a good thickness and the toads are substantial. No problems with it at all and made by a man who plays the game ! Robbie Robinson.

I bought Lead and Toads from Simon, to fit to a table of my own design from cleaved ash and oak. I cut the trees down and seasoned the billets myself. She is called "Mamut"(Mammoth in German), as she is a heavy girl and appears to be walking towards you. The lead playing surface is all important. Any table with a tinny ping to it does not allow you any real control over the toad, as it bounces horribly. This has something to do with the Zinc content of the lead. A good soft plumbers lead is needed. This also moulds over time to give the table a unique topography, much like a cricket wicket. Good lead has a dull thumping sound to it. The "Heaps Arnold and Heaps Ltd" lead of Simon's tables, I believe comes from Rotherham. Those guys know a thing or two about plumbers lead. None of this pingy roofers lead stuff. As a result my table plays beautifully. The Toads supplied also have a good weight too and a satifying tactile fell. Having built a table myself, and had Simon make me a display case on another occasion, I understand the work care he puts into his designs. Pete Scantlebury. Isfield East Sussex.Moreexpand_more

Simon made us a toad table ready to be painted up in the pub's barge ware theme so I think we have the only roses and castles toad table in the country. It's a great game and Simon's a keen afficienado and a good craftsman. Would highly recommend. Tony and Dom at the Snowdrop Inn.

Beautifully made out of oak-simple but solid design. Stylish addition to any home - just need to get better at toads!

Expertly made by a craftsman who clearly loves the game, each table has unique character, with the angle and height of the lead always varied.

Simon created an exceptional Toad table for us in sycamore with inlaid walnut detailing, exactly as commissioned. I had the honour of throwing the first toad onto its virgin lead surface and many more have followed it since. I'm pleased to report that the table plays beautifully, even if the quality of our play isn't up to scratch! Thanks Simon, it's much appreciated and admired.
