About The Clever Coop Company

The Clever Coop Company is a family run business based near Stamford in Lincolnshire. We have kept poultry for over 25 years and specialise in easy clean, no-maintenance plastic chicken coops that help to reduce the likelihood of a Red Mite infestation due to their washable and chemical resistant qualities.

At The Clever Coop Company, we provide exclusive coops that are maintenance free, impact, chemical and UV resistant and made from high density, durable insulating plastic panels - perfect for spray cleaning.

The Snap Lock chicken coop range includes the standard size which comfortably houses 4 medium sized hens, and the large coop which can cater for around 12 hens.

Both models include removable litter and nest box trays, lockable access points, removable perches, adjustable ventilation, easy egg collection facility and a 'no tool' assembly quality. Also as the coops are boxed flat packed, they can be delivered throughout the UK easily.

We are always happy to offer advice and support for all your poultry related enquiries so please get in touch.

All our coops are in stock and ready for immediate despatch. We operate on a next working day delivery service as we feel it is important for a quick turn around.

The Clever Coop Company started trading in 2013 although their knowledge and experience with poultry and waterfowl stems back over 25 years.

Founder Carrie Wright originally started the company after struggling to eradicate Red Mite infestations in the wooden poultry coops and felt there needed to be something available that had a washable, seamless construction providing minimal hiding places for the parasites. After spotting the Snap Lock chicken coop in America, she decided it would be perfect for her smallholding and in turn, the UK market.

Sadly I bought into the Kate Humble video which she told us that buying these plastic coops meant an end to red mite. Sadly this was a bold claim which was untrue. I bought a snapback large coop for around £700 plus. Two years on my coop is full of red mite. It is worse than a wooden chicken coop because the sections which make up the clever coop company large coop are hollow and become filled with red mite. In the summer, I spend about 2 and half hours each week taking the whole thing apart and not only cleaning (scrubbing) the very many snap locks but flushing out the interior of 7 of the 14 pieces which make up the coop, with water to get rid of the red mite which breed inside. I also spray each joint and use powder to kill the red mite. If you have over £700 to spare and about 2 hours a week, then this is the coop for you. Sadly, it is not the coop for me!
Response : Hello Eloise. It really saddens me to read your comments. I only wish you had been in touch with us before writing such a damaging review. We could have discussed the best method and products to use to eliminate the mites as it is quite possible to do so. I could have also suggested a preventive regime. No chicken house is resistant to red mite however with the correct knowledge and routine, a house can limit the possibilities of an attack. Sorry the coop was not for you :o(The Clever Coop Company.

After owning the coop for almost 2 months now, I felt it was time to write a review. To start with the customer service was brilliant, they allowed us to see the coops they had to offer, and explained to about what makes these better than there competitors. The Clever Coop Comapny made me feel that my chickens would have a great and safe home to live in. Delivery was fast and the times lot they gave me was stuck to, to a tee. Assembling the coop, was beyond easy. It was like putting Lego together, but when assembled it was strong, sturdy, and looked the part. The chickens absolutely love it in there, we have 4 chickens and there is absolutely loads of room still, which is fantastic. If we wanted anymore we definitely could! If anyone asks me which place they should go to, to get a coop, I would 110% recommend The Clever Coop Company.Moreexpand_more

We purchased the large coop mid way through the covid 19 pandemic. Throughout this period we were kept informed of progress regarding delivery. We have been highly impressed with the level of service and felt this was only bettered by the high standard of the product.

I posted a review when I purchased my Clever Coop back in September 2014. This is just to say it is still in perfect condition and looks as smart as day it was assembled. It has been jetwashed a few times! I always recommend it to anybody who tells me they are thinking of getting chickens. The price is fully justified because of the benefits of a maintenance free and RED MITE FREE home for the chickens. It is a really fabulous product and I really can't fault it.

This is a top value item and with this everything deserves to be perfect. The value is yet to be fully appreciated as we haven't used but it looks the part and easy to construct with clear instructions. The shipping and delivery costs have to be considered but I did cringe at the cost. The service from TCCC was perfect, honest, factual and delivered as promised on schedule. The quality is good but I suggest you would need a sheltered site as it is very light but stable. If you place it up on legs I think you would need to watch wind direction. There was some packing damage to the nest box and cleaning tray as they were indented. The indents pushed out mostly but at a premium price this shouldn't happen. On the whole delighted so far and we hope that the plastic coop will improve over timber equivalents.Moreexpand_more

Bought the large coop following an explosion of red mite in the several wood ones we had. I fought a losing battle before I bought this. Despite initial issues with the courier which the Carrie soon sorted, the coop arrived. Effortless and quick to put together and that included the auto door opener! Well an hour later, and the girls have come off the field and started to investigate their new abode! Great piece of kit, passed the wife test for appearance! Great Product and I will be recommending this to all my friend and colleagues in the chicken world.
Response : Thank you Jason! Delighted to hear you are pleased with your order and really appreciate the review. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards Carrie.

Having worked out how much personal time and money I've wasted battling against red mite each summer and knowing I would be keeping hens for years to come, I finally accepted the days of the wooden coop were numbered for me. I'm not a fan of plastic compared with rustic look of a wooden coop but finally relented when I, myself, felt red mite crawling on me! We opted for Clever Coop over other makes due to price, design and beige - no fluorescent colours - at last! The coop arrived quickly, was easy to put up and once we'd put it on a raised base to save bending, it immediately made life so much easier. The hens took to their new home straight away. I was a little worried that the interior perches were more square than round but this does appear to have been an issue for the hens or our cockerel. From a hygiene view, it is always easy to remove debris and wipe down the interior so it's clean on a daily basis. Have not had it through a summer yet but during the winter months, I know my ladies have been kept nicely warm inside, with just enough ventilation in the design so that the coop isn't draughty. For Xmas, I asked for the solar-powered door! Again, that's been great, knowing our ladies are safely enclosed if we're out past their bedtime. So roll on the summer months when hopefully, just keeping a check on the girls is all that's required and endless days of fumigating are a thing of the past.Moreexpand_more

I am a bit late in writing this review. I bought my chicken coop in September 2015 and it is still going strong. It is the best coop, I have owned. I have finally got round to building a stand for it. The instructions were so easy to find online, after a couple of years and so easy to follow.
Response : Thank you Juliette for your review! Great to hear that even in its third year, you still love your coop! Much appreciated. Kind regards Carrie.

Had 2 small wooden coops both less than 1 yr old. Despite steam cleaning weekly and spraying "Smite" daily could not get rid of the red mite. Decided my 9 ex-bats deserved better, spent my hols money to get the larger coop. Expensive but so worth it. Two months on, no sign of mites and daily cleaning is a breeze. Coop assembled in 1/2hr after first watching the instruction video and fixed on top of 2 wood pallets.
Response : Thank you Alan and so pleased to hear you are free from red mite in your new Clever Coop. Really appreciate the review! Kind regards Carrie.

Very quick dispatch and delivery. It was so easy to put together and left both of us wondering why we didn't buy one sooner. A very happy customer.
Response : Brilliant Claire! Thank you for your review. Happy Cooping! :o).

Purchased this to replace, two of my wooden coops, so I had a bit of ground work to sort out as well. I thought it to be rather expensive, however as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I am very pleased with the final result and named it Peckingham Palace. It was a dream to put together, took us longer than the recommended 20 minutes, this was only due to stopping for pizza. Delivery was next day as advised, what more is there to say, girls love it.

We are absolutely thrilled with our standard Clever Coop, - as are our girls Opal, Pearl, Ruby and Beryl! The coop arrived very quickly, was well packed, is clearly of very good quality and is predator proof. It looks great too. Putting together required a bit of muscle but after a little struggling and helpful advice from the kind lady at the company, it all went together perfectly and is solid and secure with plenty of room for our four chickens. We made the stand according to the instructions and so it is at an easy height to clean. It stays at a comfortable temperature inside, even in the recent very hot weather. We have just received the auto closer so will not have to be up so early every morning. Carol and Carrie in the company office could not have been more helpful in answering our many questions and went the extra mile to accommodate us. We cannot recommend the coop and the customer care provided by the staff more highly and are so glad we chose it. After much research into the other plastic coops on the market we believe this is the best! In fact it has been named Cluckinham Palace!Moreexpand_more

I ordered a "clever coop" from the company on Saturday, it was dispatched on Monday and arrived on Wednesday. I was absolutely delighted with the coop. The instructions for assembly were so easy to follow and the coop went up in next to no time. I found the company extremely helpful and their customer service was excellent. The coop is exactly what I wanted. Couldn't be better pleased with my purchase. Thankyou very much! A very happy customer!
Response : Thank you so very much for your lovely review! It is always appreciated to hear from happy customers - we love the coops and delighted others feel the same! Kind regards from The Clever Coop Company team!

A few months ago I bought the clever coop along with the ladder and the automatic door opener/closer, and I'm so glad I did! My previous wooden coop was full of red mite, wood was rotting, and I just couldn't clean it properly. The click together clever coop is so easy and quick to put together, and easy to take apart to scrub it clean. We built the wooden frame so the coop sits nicely off the cold ground. The automatic door opener/closer works perfectly and is fantastic if we go away for a night! I can't recommend this company enough, the customer service is brilliant. I have 3 happy warm hens! Thank you.

Happy with ordering process and delivery when promised. Fairly easy to put together, although one or two tabs were difficult to push home. Chickens seem very happy with new quarters. Having made a stand it is much easier to collect eggs and clean without getting on my knees. The only thing missing is a prop to keep the lids open. I have a short length of wood which does the job.

I have delayed writing a review so we can fully assess the hen house. We received the 12 hen house as a gift 4 months ago from our family as we decided to increase our flock to 10 girls. The instructions were very easy to understand and I put the house together within the hour. I decided to build a frame as per the guidance sheet that accompanied the house. All of our girls seem very happy with the house and roost nicely at night. The cleaning of the house is fairly easy however I do find the larger trays a little flimsy and wonder how long they will last the test of time. One HUGE negative I have found is that despite being plastic and resilient to red spider mite and being advertised as such, the perches are wooden! This week I have found red spider mite at the ends of the perches and have treated them accordingly. Surely there must be plastic alternatives to fully prevent red spider mite! I have only owned plastic hen houses. Would I buy this type again? I like the look of it but I do have concerns over the longevity of it. Only time will tell I guess.Moreexpand_more
Response : Thank you Chris for your review. Pleased to hear your hens are happy with their coop. The reason the perches are wooden is because chickens do not do well roosting on plastic. Not only is the grip insufficient but also there is a risk of condensation gathering under the bird along the perch. Wood is a natural product and it provides a far better material than plastic under foot. If you have mites under the ends of the perches, we would recommend dusting this area with Diatom or similar to prevent the mites settling there. Thankfully the perches are removable so can be scrubbed with ease. Please do have a look at the comparison between our coop that has been in constant use for the last four years and a newly built coop and you will see there is no change in its appearance at all - they are built to last. I hope this answers your concerns. Kind regards The Clever Coop Company.Moreexpand_more

I have two of the large coops and so far they are the best coop I can find. Dead easy to put together and easy to take apart. I changed the locking clasps for 6mm ones from Screwfix. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to keep chickens. I also build the stands from 2x2 and 2x4 which is worth the effort. To finish I built some ladders, but the birds just fly up and out anyway! Lol.
Response : Thank you for your review. Great to hear that you are pleased with them both. Kind regards.
