My Agent at Thandi Nicholls, Miles, went above and beyond to sort out some complexities with capital gains tax - I have consistently had an excellent experience over the past two years.
As a overseas landlord looking to file my tax return I was totally lost. Had no idea how to to go on about it. Have tried few online services and failed. I came across Thandi Nicholls while surfing on the net and decided to drop a email. Received a instant response and a professional advise. Jenni and Charolette was extremely helpful and they made sure that my tax return was filed smoothly and on time. They provided a Top Class Service and I would highly recommend this firm.
Unfortunately I have recently stopped using Thandi Nicholls after around 2 years. When I first onboarded with the company, I was told that they would help me reduce my company corporation tax by working together throughout the year, however I have now had 2 year-end accounts and tax returns filed by them with little to none tax advise. I have asked consistently through our working relationship to get a view of what else we could be doing to reduce this for our year-end, but minimal guidance has been given. In addition, for our first year of accounts, there was actually an error in them which I had to point out and get corrected - I don’t believe this should be happening by accountants for a simple set of accounts. Finally, I haven’t felt very welcomed by the company or its staff throughout our relationship. It’s a shame as I think it has potential, but I would say that this company is going to do nothing else apart from filing your accounts and returns.
I came across this company while looking online for help to calculate capital gains tax following a house sale. From the first contact the team have been very responsive and professional, walking me through each step of the process. They gathered all the relevant information and completed and submitted my tax return very quickly. I cannot fault the service and would highly recommend this company.
I have used Thandi Nicholls for 9 years. I recently received a disclosure letter from HMRC and it turns out that I was giving the wrong tax information to the accountant every year! Thankfully there is department at Thandi Nicholls to handle all correspondence with HMRC. Harry worked out the issue, kept me calm, up to date on the procedure and was quick to address my concerns. This was an invaluable service and actually didn't cost much anyway. Very happy to recommend this accountancy team. .
The Tax Department of Thandi Nicholls Limited have expertly looked after my tax affairs for many years. I am extremely grateful to the Tax Team for the professional, prompt, excellent and courteous way, and with their contact on my behalf with HMRC, in which the Team handle my tax matters. The Team are very helpful in every way. The firm’s fees are very reasonable and acceptable. In my personal capacity and as a practising company secretary, I would express my continuing thanks to the Team and I am very pleased and happy to recommend them very highly to anyone who is thinking of employing Thandi Nicholls Limited as tax advisor.
I was thoroughly impressed by the entire team at Thandi Nichols. I visited the UK Landlord Tax site when I needed help with my tax returns as a new landlord. The process was smooth, extremely cost effective and they helped me understand what was deductible and allowable, in turn actually saving me money. I am now in the system and we are already ahead of the game for 24/25 tax year. Would highly recommend for anyone who has rental income as another income to their salary. Very professionally handled and extremely efficient. Thank you Andrea and Casey!
I have been delighted with the service I have received from Thandi Nicholls. I was in a bit of a panic as to how to fill out my Tax Return. My initial conversation with Natalie allayed all my fears, her calm manner and professionalism has been exemplary. From start to finish (initially reviewing my previous years return and obtaining me a refund of over paid tax) to the filing of this years has been a smooth process. I only have a relatively small tax bill but it needs to be paid. Knowing how much their fees were going to be in advance gave me additional confidence. I am delighted to have found such a professional organisation. Thank you to Natalie and the Admin team.
As a relatively new BTL investor, the ongoing support I’ve received from Thandi Nicholls has been great. The friendly staff are always available to help and provide guidance on tax matters whenever required.
Andrea at U. K. Landlord tax has been excellent to deal with. This organisation is super efficient and great to deal with. I strongly recommend you use them for all your property tax affairs. You won’t regret it! Thank you Thandi Nicholls for fab service ? .
I am a UK based landlord who sought advice from UK Landlord Tax relating to the structuring of my limited company and the set up of a Family Investment Company (FIC) which Manjinder offered invaluable advice on. UK Landlord Tax have been super responsive, generous with their time and detailed in their advice. An extremely rare experience in today's fast paced business world. Majinder could give me chapter and verse on the implication of my children's US citizenship relating to the FIC which was an extra bonus. As far as value for money goes I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you.
They completed my tax return and discovered I was owed a rebate. They also handled a complex Capital Gains Tax return after a property sale in the UK while I was abroad. All was done quickly and efficiently, with plenty of communication. Will be using them again and would recommend.
I would not hesitate to recommend Thandi Nicholls. All members of staff were incredibly responsive both before and after I engaged them. They were able to engage the HMRC directly and quickly to resolve an issue that had been going for 10 months. I found their fees very reasonable for the time and effort they spent, and unlike some accountants, they gave me advice not covered by the fee quote without charge.
I consulted Mr Manjinder Baines recently on a rather complicated tax matter. Even though Thandi Nicholls was not able to take on the work, he still took great pains, and a lot of time, to talk me through the matter and to point me in the right direction. His advice saved me from making a very serious mistake, that would have cost me a huge amount of money. I cannot thank him enough! I first started using Thandi Nicholls a few years ago when I suddenly realised that, for years, I should have been making a self assessment tax return, but had failed to do so. After totally panicking and not knowing where to start, I saw an article in the Guardian newspaper, and contacted Thandi Nicholls. They were incredibly professional and helpful and they led me through the steps to rectify the situation. From the start I was reassured that everything was under control. There were no hidden costs, and the final bill was exactly as quoted. I have continued to use them to do my yearly returns for a rental property. This is now a very painless and easy process. They answer any queries promptly and in plain simple English. I would totally recommend this company.Moreexpand_more
Hi everyone, I would like to share my experience working with Thandi Nicholls in the hope that it is helpful to potential clients. My experience was quite difficult and expensive, however I accept that based on the other reviews I may have been an anomaly, or too far outside of their core area of expertise. First, here is some background on my situation. I am a US citizen living in the UK, with PAYE UK income and capital gains / dividends from a few US brokerage accounts with around 500 transactions per year. After seeing great reviews, I first began working with them for my 2020-21 return on the agreement that it was a fixed fee to complete the return. This was the very reason that I sought out their help, as they specifically used the brand “Fixed Fee Tax Return”. I was initially quoted £330 including VAT to complete the return. However, in the end, I was charged £2870 including VAT. Before being quoted the £330, I provided all of the information I had up front (US 1099 forms, P60, etc. ), but over time, after the fixed fee was quoted, they advised that due to the number of transactions involved and the requirement to convert each from USD to GBP, they would need to charge £80 + VAT per hour to prepare the capital gains calculation. Although they did not express this requirement when I first sent the documents, I continued to work with them in good faith to try and get this completed, and paid an additional £764 including VAT. As the deadline to file approached, they advised me on the afternoon of the 2020-21 HMRC deadline that they were not complete with the work and that they would be filing the return with a provisional CGT calculation, to be corrected later. After filing the 2020-21 return with provisional calculations in February 2022, there was quite a bit of back and forth (60+ emails in total). This lasted throughout all of 2022 and required significant effort on my part, and quite often I did not have the time to immediately dig into their queries. I am still confused as to why all the back and forth was necessary when I had provided the statements in Excel format as requested. In August 2022, I was sent yet another invoice for £1776 including VAT. I had no idea that additional cost was required until I received the invoice, at this point I felt as if this exercise was a bit of a black hole, not knowing how many more unexpected invoices there would be. I was told that the cost was due to transcription errors on my part (I was required to transcribe all PDF statements to Excel), and mismatches of share purchase / sales from the statements which I then corrected. Apparently this triggered a requirement for a second review of the entire return, of which I was never told. It also left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, essentially being told that it was my own fault that I was being billed for more cost with no prior warning. The matching of the purchases and sales is also something that I would expect them to do, but continuing in good faith I put in the effort myself to keep costs down and get the return completed. At this point I agreed to pay the £1776, but on the basis that it represented a fixed fee to complete the return and that no more costs would be billed. After further back and forth, I was provided with what was represented to me as the final return in January 2023. I reviewed the return and noticed several errors: 1. Several accounts of which I provided US 1099 forms over a year ago in the initial communications were not included; 2. No dividends were included on the return. I had provided the dividend information for my main brokerage account in 2021, and this was also included in a provisional calculation spreadsheet that they sent to me in July 2021. This confirms to me that they indeed had the information, but missed including it on the return;3. There were multiple missing securities on the final CGT calculation compared to the February provisional calculation;4. The statement “Capital gains tax may need amending” was still present, which should not have been the case if this was indeed the final return. ?.These errors were surprising and concerning to me - if a return is presented to me as the final version, I expect everything to be correct. Although these items were also not present on the February 2022 return which I agreed to file, I expected that they were aware of this information (as I had provided it) and that it would be included on the final return. As the client, my expectation is that anything would be double and triple checked before being sent to me, instead it felt that I was double-checking the work and pointing out errors myself in a last minute rush to meet the HMRC deadline. It was very concerning that I (not an accountant by any stretch) was able to quickly spot omissions, and that this wasn’t caught by an internal review - especially as the unexpected £1,776 invoice was to cover an internal review! I raised these concerns, and fortunately they were quickly corrected. I was then told that the most recent work was only focusing on amending the CGT calculations, that items such as dividends were not looked at as there were multiple people who had worked on my return. Once the errors were corrected, I reviewed the return and it finally looked correct to me, and I requested and was provided with written confirmation that the return was correct. It was then filed and HMRC sent receipt at 00:32 on 1st February 2023. I was then told that they had been removed from HMRC systems and that I would need to follow up directly with HMRC regarding any refunds due. Fortunately, as agreed, I was not billed any further cost beyond August 2022, which I appreciate. I have tried to stay positive, helpful, and collaborative throughout the process but my expectations have not come even close to being met - especially for the cost. I have also sent my feedback directly to everyone on the team on 2nd February 2023, and received a “thank you for your email, wish you all the best” response a week later. For my 2021-22 return, I have engaged with a new accountant who specializes in joint US/UK tax matters, and it has been a night and day experience. I simply provided the statements and 1099s in Excel format. The next communication that I had was a copy of a completed return, and everything was filed within 1 month…At a fixed cost of £1385 including VAT. This is the customer experience that I was expecting from the outset, I suspect Thandi Nicholls may have been a bit out of their core area of expertise in my scenario. If you choose to work with these guys, my advice to you is:1. Set very clear expectations and mange them to those expectations. Ensure you provide all information up front, and make sure that the scope is fully understood and appreciated by everyone;2. Agree a fixed fee in writing on the basis of information provided, and get a commitment that the cost is fixed unless the scope materially changes from what was jointly agreed;3. Pick up the phone - I relied mostly on email, and if I had spoken to them and called more often, my experience might have been faster and easier;4. Review what is provided very thoroughly and check for errors (as should always be the case). Again, given the number of great reviews, it’s very possible that I am the small minority here and that you will have an excellent experience with other scenarios such as landlord tax or UK-only matters. However if you are in a similar situation as mine (American in the UK with investments in the US), I would be careful about ensuring the scope and cost is crystal clear. I hope this is helpful!Moreexpand_more
Thandi Nicholls are superb in preparing my tax return on my behalf - so much so that I've sought their services through several years. Specifically, Natalie Russell from Thandi whom I've worked with is incredibly professional, provides dedicated support and her expertise is invaluable. Additionally, whilst I've started the tax return process late, Natalie's expertise, swiftness, clear communications were pivotal. Highly recommend and have done so to my friends and family.
Manjinder Bains was absolutely brill. His initial consultation was an eye opener. Accurate, efficient, professional, approachable and understanding - what more do you need in an accountant! Highly recommend.
Following my relocation to Spain, I rented my UK property, due to poor advice I failed to submit a self assessment tax return by the date required, hence I was bombarded with letters from HMRC. I contacted Thandi Nicholls Ltd who resolved this issue and have continued to look after my Tax Return on an annual basis. Due to Brexit my UK property has been sold and I no longer have a tax liability in the UK. I found Thandi Nicholls to be professional, very easy to deal with, but most of all they removed the pressure and stress relating to the tax issues. Thank you T N, I would be more than happy to recommend this company. S. C.
