Cath was a pleasure to work with. She took on board everything I said and presented me with several innovative options, which not only addressed the issues I had raised regarding my house, but things I hadn't even considered. There was a long delay on my part between first contacting Cath and the project commencing. Cath kept her charges the same as in her original quote, even though the time had long expired, which I am grateful for. During the project, Cath was always on hand to answer my many and frequent queries. She was reassuring and clearly explained anything to me which I was unclear on. At the end of the project, my house works much better than before and I would wholeheartedly recommend Cath to anyone considering work on their house.
I have deliberately waited for a year after our extension has been finished to take the opportunity to live in the space created by Cathryn before writing this review. So where do I start? If we go back a number of years we had previously had a conservatory built by Everest. This was one of the worst experiences of our lives and at the end of a bitter dispute with Everest and receiving compensation we ended up with something that was never what had been promised. Thus deciding to embark on a new extension was daunting. We needed an architect who could not only deliver the plans for our extension, but someone who could also project manage. We met a number of architects, none of whom filled us with confidence and then we met Cathryn. In Cathryn we found someone who was very professional but who had a personal touch and seemed to care, who took time to understand our needs but just as importantly someone in whom we could trust. The build was not small, involving a large kitchen extension and new first floor bedroom and bathroom and the fees that Cathryn was charging I thought to be of excellent value. After a false start, following an illness in my wife's family, Cathryn helped us realise the plans for our dream extension; during this time Cathryn was always exceptionally patient, allowing us to move along at a speed we were comfortable with. After going through the planning process, the tendering process commenced with some builders who we had identified and some who had worked with Cathryn before. A word of advice, always go with builders who the architect has worked with before. Cathryn introduced us to Mike Jenkins builders, a family firm, with whom we instantly knew were the right choice. Mike the Director, was a perfectionist whose quality of work was just extraordinary and one of the nicest people you are likely to meet (he even put his honeymoon on hold to get the job finished). My father-in-law, previously a builder himself, who was also a perfectionist, only ever had positive comments to make regarding the quality of Mike's firm's workmanship. Once the building commenced, I can't remember any negative experiences at all, with Cathryn always being on hand to provide support and oversee the build and make recommendations when minor alterations were required. The whole experience of working with Cathryn was a pleasure and I would strongly recommend her firm; in fact forget any other architect firm, just go to TDArchitect. Oh and the extension, what about that? Well, it has changed the whole dynamic of the house and has become the centre of everything that goes on at home becoming not only a great space, with high quality finish, but somewhere where my wife and two teenage daughters all congregate on a daily basis. Our house is now truly a home thanks to Cathryn.Moreexpand_more
I met Cathryn Teagle-Davies by chance at an arts centre in Cardiff. I was renovating my house at the time. I asked Cathryn to advise me on the 'green aspects' of this project which was later extended to more general advice and a review of the work completed by the trades employed by myself which was extensive. Cathryn's work covered:1 Energy saving advise which was implemented. 2 Energy generation advice which will be used at a later stage or on future projects. 3 Having a dark landing over three floors, Cathryn advised on various methods of dealing with this including 'light walls' of glass brick and light tunnels. 4 An excellent idea for a 'wine staircase', not implemented solely on the grounds of cost constraint. 5 A detailed walk around the work of the trades which were plumbing, electrical, kitchen, painting and the floor boards (flooring yet to be laid). Cathryn's comments were simple to understand and pragmatic. Cathryn is knowledgeable, with a quick and sharp intellect, enthusiastic with a great deal of patience and the required sense of humour, a a must during a very stressful period. In short:1 Would I recommend Cathryn? Yes. 2 Would I employ Cathryn again? Yes. 3 A credit to her chosen profession. Stephen Ray LLB ACA. Cardiff, UK,14 July 2012. Work carried out: Design of single storey kitchen extension including liaison with, and management of the building contractors. This included the production of a scale model to enable visualisation of the design, plus drawings for use by the building contractors. The final result was delivered to our timescales and exceeded our expectations.
We are extremely pleased with TDArchitect. It was good dealing with someone who was very professional and took the time to understand what we wanted. The end result was better than we expected. We live in a National Park and thought the planning procedure would be difficult, however TDArchitect handled everything for us in a efficient manner. We would have no hesitation in recommending them and will definitely use them again for the next stage of our plans.
