About Tax Enquiry Advice
When (i) HMRC decide to open a TAX enquiry into your tax returns or (ii) one of the HMRC task forces turn on your sector of business or (iii) you need to make a voluntary disclosure of past irregularities or (iv) even worse you are enquired into under COP9 (CODE OF PRACTICE 9 - or even 8) or Contractual Disclosure Facility then you need to obtain reliable and experienced tax investigation expertise.
Bill and Vicky provide such expertise and have a great track record for getting matters resolved in the client's favour at cost efficient prices. There is nothing in the tax investigation field that they are surprised by with Bill having done over 41 years on the bad side (HMR&C) followed by 16 years success on the good side since 2006 (defending clients and sometimes their accountants).
Vicky supplements his experience with a further 30 years and 5 years and specialises in property letting problems and other opportunities.
Bill was a Fully trained Senior Inspector of Taxes who had spent over 41 years in HMR&C including years as a District Inspector and as a Senior Inspector engaged on Inland Revenue (now called HMR&C) tax frauds with the Inland Revenue - all encompassing - Enquiry Branch (predecessor of HMR&C - Civil Investigation of Fraud/ Specialist Investigations/Taxes Criminal Unit/ Serious Criminal Investigations/COP9 and Contractual Disclosure ).
Bill was involved in setting up the Code of Practice 9 Investigations being dealt with for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland before retiring early to take up the cudgels in defending taxpayers/non-taxpayers who have fallen foul of HMR&C.
Vicky was another gamekeeper turned poacher who had enjoyed work as a Tax Inspector and Investigator and also retired early to assist Bill in the partnership. She is the managing partner for our outfit.
Both Bill and Vicky have an extensive knowledge of "all things tax" but both specialise and enjoy Tax Investigation work of all sorts whether the enquiry is with a local office; or one of the more serious offices or agencies or even if you have decided that you want to clear up past years errors or irregularities.
HMRC Penalties are complex as you will understand if you have tried to follow the various articles and views on the Nadhim Zawahi situation.
Clearly most of the so-called experts voicing their opinions and criticisms on this gent have little clue about the complexity and potentials for varying penalties being sought by HMRC. Most saying Careless 30% is at the top of the carelessness range so something must have gone wrong. On balance of probabilities it is probably more likely that it is at the lower end of the "Offshore" penalties regime post 2015-16 - although only Mr Zawahi and HMRC will know all.
Bill enjoys the complexities of the penalty regime and is able to reliably advise on the range that would apply to any situation and how best to manage any admissions or disclosures to HMRC.
Bill has his mobile with him 24/7 and is quite happy to have a short (up to 30 minutes) chat to see if we(either Bill or Vicky and yourself) would be a good fit for working together; if your problem can be mitigated and if it is something that Bill/Vicky would be willing/able to assist with.
One word of caution however we do not steal any other professionals bread and butter and will not easily get involved if you already have a tax adviser on board. It is best therefore that you get the expert adviser on board from the start or let your adviser know if you intend chatting to us.
