I was one of the first to become Nationally recognised Qualified Dog breeders in the UK having completed the Ofqual level 3 certificate in Dog breeding, puppy socialising and welfare. I am very proud to hold this certificate and be recognised for my hard work and dedication to my Fully Health Tested Labradors in Cumbria.

I also spent a large part of 2023 doing CPD in veterinary nursing up to level 4. Along side this I also completed a level 3 in first aid for puppies and dogs, level 3 kennel assistant and management, Canine embryology and fatal development for breeders, canine pregnancy and whelping, puppy socialisation for breeders and a level 3 canine nutrition. So you can rest assured our puppies are brought up to the best of my ability and get the best care, socialising and nutrition. I pride myself on giving 110% in what I do and what I’ve learnt in my 24 years of breeding. I always aim to better my self and my knowledge in any way I can and will continue with my learning.

Before leaving us at 8 weeks our puppies will have been given the best start in life and will be well socialised. He/she will have been on a very strict worming programme and treated with front line at 6 weeks to prevent fleas. The puppies will be microchipped at 6 weeks and vet checked as close to 8 weeks as possible.

Not only will the puppies be use to all the household noises but they will also get to experience our purpose built enrichment puppy room. This will give them the freedom to explore and play with plenty of space. Our Early Development Puppy Play area was created to support early stimulation and cognitive development in young puppies. Studies regarding early neurological stimulation in puppies have confirmed that one of the critical periods for canines to be stimulated is between 4 and 16 weeks of age. Research has shown that non-stimulated pups may become fearful of unfamiliar objects and will withdraw rather than investigate. Even well bred puppies with superior pedigree could grow up preferring the safe environment of their kennels/crates rather than the stimulating world outside, and may also be more difficult to train.

We believe our Puppy Play Areas , coupled with interesting puppy toys, introduces puppies to different textures, sounds, and stimulates their developing nervous systems. We understand the importance of raising stable, well adjusted and confident puppies. Exposing them to many different sounds and textures during their early weeks will give them a great head start.

Here at Sykehead Our family consist of myself Wendy my husband Steven and our three children whom all equally share our passion for dogs.

My love for dogs started as a small child spending a lot of time on my grandparents farm in Bewcastle Cumbria. On weekends and holidays I would be found outside with the dog a pet lamb in hand. I was never happier than when my grandfather added a new collie pup or 2 to the farm. My early memories of being at Home as a child where animals and dogs as I also inherited this from my late mother Hazel. I watched my mum nurture and rear many orphaned and abandoned animals and for as long as I can remember I’ve done the same and I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for her.

I bought my first dog when I was 18 years old and that brings me to today and my passion for breeding Labradors and Cocker Spaniels here at Sykehead. Fast forward many years and here we are a five star license qualified breeder having gained my level three ofqual in Breeding, litter socialisation and welfare. We now pride ourselves breeding some of the very best health tested Labradors and Cocker Spaniels in the country.

We have always believed that rearing happy healthy puppies is so important and making sure socialisation and enrichment play a huge part in our puppies lives whilst with us making them ready to explore the world beyond.

Welcome to Sykehead Cocker Spaniels and Labradors Where we love living with and raising our Labrador Retrievers and Cocker Spaniels in the glorious Cumbrian countryside where I have lived all of my life. We are surrounded by nothing more than green fields, woodland and rivers.
