I had restoration work carried out on both my Velocette KSS and AJS big port and whilst at first I was satisfied, faults presented themselves in quick succession. The worst being that the AJS tank, leak tested and then painted by them, all at some expense, within days of uses started to leak petrol heavily. This directly over the carburettor with all the risks of that attached. When raised with the business owner I was told however that it was my fault because I had used the wrong type of petrol i. E. Petrol with ethanol. Whilst remedial works were being carried (for which they wanted to charge) out I then found issues with works billed but not finished on the Velocette, rear wheel oil seal missing and bearings dry etc. When raised both verbally and in a number of e-mail no response/explanation was ever given. As for the tank this was repaired using a tank sealant (not what I asked) which is causing issues and the tank is showing signs of additional leaks. Overall the main frustration has been the business owners refusal to talk or take any responsibility.Moreexpand_more
Response : Dear sir your AJS fuel / oil tank was repaired satisfactoraly and it was pressure tested prior to painting. As i told you from the outset that i was not happy to carry out the work due to there being a leak between the fuel and oil gallery within the same tank. We sucessfully resoldered the cracked joint within the tank and under a pressure test we found no leaks. When we gave the tank back to you after painting it was brought to my attention by you that it had produced another leak between the fuel and oil tank.
Now it has to be born in mind that when lead soldered joints in fuel tanks get old they crack. So the only way to deal with them is to entrust yourself with modern products such as tank sealants. A sealant with the correct cleaning agents was procured from a specialist and the sealant was applied exactly to the instructions supplied even though i have no long term trust in the products. The owner was informed what was going to be carried out. Now after several years you are holding me to account for some other companies product faillure. The rear wheel grease seal was not fitted because it was not given to us to fit and as you state that oil was going to be used on the rear wheel bearings there was no room to fit an oil seal in a very limited amount of space and no such suggestion was given by you to attend to the dilemma. Gregor, you have a very short memory as i did sit down with you at a mutual meeting at a venue that you organized so we could come to a financial agreement that fully suited your terms alone. All of the work i have done for you over the years has been done to the quality that you ordered accept the fuel/oil tank issue that could not be resolved with traditional processes. Very kind regards Terry.Moreexpand_more
