Sing for Smiles is fantastic. My daughter (aged 10) is more suited to 1:1 tuition and the classes provided bring fun and learning into my daughters singing. Classes combine techniques and current songs (chosen by my daughter of what she likes, One Direction, Rhinna etc) so that she she feels she is not actually learning but just having fun. My daughter looks forward (everyweek) to her class! Sarah (teacher) is extremely patient and accomodating, providing us parents with relevant feedback and ideas for practice between classes. Outside the class we are kept up to date with any events etc going on, which enables us to for the view of this being a very well run, efficient school.
I've been going to Sarah (ably assisted by Vikki) for singing lessons since they moved into Quayside st a few years ago. The knowledge and technique that Sarah imparts is brilliant and it's done in a fun manner which makes the hour fly by. The improvement it makes is obvious and I would heartily recommend lessons to anyone. And as a final comment, I stood solo in front of over a hundred people at the school's showcase and sang. Considering I suffer from terrible stagefright that shows how much I have learned over the past few years.
Always enjoy my sessions here. Sarah is extremely good at dealing with complete novices. The technical stuff certainly works for me. Vikki and Sarah have also been very flexible when I have had to change times and communication has always been excellent. Above all they are keen and encourage you. I've been going for over six months now and anticipate continuing till I get the call from Scottish Opera.
Sing for Smiles was found for me by my other half when a "deal" was made available and I think it was the most successful present as I have continued to go back to Sarah ever since. I love the flexibility of the session, but that it is also well structured. I learn something new every time, and make progress with breathing, range and control every session. I sing in a choir and I can tell the difference between where I was 6 months ago and where I am now. Sarah has made feel really at ease when I am not used to singing solo, and when I find learning a lot more difficult than I used to 10 years ago! I consider this personal training for my voice!
I would recommend to give Sing for Smiles a shot if you are looking for singing lessons (whatever your motivations or your existing level). You won't get told you don't sound right, or you're not good enough. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and Sarah is an excellent vocal coach, with very good technical knowledge, but she is also great at teaching! I always leave a lesson feeling good. I made huge progress since I started and now enjoy singing confidently and creatively as well as performing. The venue is also nice and well kept.
I started going to Sing for Smiles last year as I had always wanted to be able to sing even though I really thought I couldn't. I was really nervous at my first lesson but Sarah really put me at ease and she has helped me see that I can hold a tune and can progress over time, it has really helped my confidence. I have had great fun with Sarah, she doesn't mind if I have a fit of the giggles mid way through a lesson!
I have been learning with Sarah for over a year and have progressed enormously. I thoroughly enjoy each lesson and am finding a whole new range to my voice which I never believed possible. Friendly, great fun and yet also being taken seriously is a great combination. I have learned with quite a few other teachers in the past and Sarah just fits for me. I'd recommend anyone to take the step and stick with it long enough to reap the rewards.
I've had the best time with my singing lessons here. I have learned so much since starting here a year ago. My gran used to sing opera, and she says i'm onto a winner with what I am learning here. Its all about substance and technique, and done in such a fun way that I leave each lesson with the joys of spring. Great fun. I thought I was going to just go for a few lessons, but after a year, I can't wait to go back each month. :).
I am a karaoke singer and needed to become a "singer in a band" in just 3 weeks. A tall order you may think but Sarah did it. She led me through what I needed to know at a speed I could handle. Definitely worth it and I have really benefited from my time at "Sing for Smiles".
I started at sing for smiles (S4S) as a complete beginner. All I was aiming for was to boost my confidence, but I have to say I have noticed a massive improvement in my vocals since joining. The tuition is fantastic and the environment is very relaxed, friendly and most importantly (for me) fun! You also get great opportunties like participating in regular showcases though the year where you meet up with other S4S singers/musicians. I have been to choir/vocal groups and received other on on one tution, but I have to honestly say I cannot reccommend S4S highly enough.
I've always enjoyed singing, and I knew I could hold a tune, but I hadn't done any 'proper singing' since school (barring pub karaoke! ). I've been having one-to-one lessons for about a year now and it's worth every penny. Sarah always encourages me to build on what I can comfortably do already, without pushing me too far - and I always leave a lesson smiling and feeling great. Sarah and Vikki are flexible and supportive, and I'd recommend Sing for Smiles to anybody who needs a bit of music and positive feedback in their life.
