Reading all the positive reviews, I have to say that I was expecting more. I ordered four large interior louvre doors which had to be cut down as they were too large. I'm assuming - and I stand to be corrected here - that like most shutter suppliers, these doors are bought in from China and altered when necessary. Consequently there was a carpentry charge for altering the size, which is fair enough. The base price for each door was £73. The carpentry charge for EACH door was £66, which I felt was a bit steep. Each door finally ended up costing me approximately £150. I would have thought that for such a high carpentry charge, it would have been done properly but on one of the doors, I had to fill it extensively where the alteration had left large pits in the wood and one of the amended slats on another door was not put in straight. There were also a few gouges on the face of two of the doors which needed to be filled and a further tear in the wood on one where it had received a whack somewhere along the line. I have been able to fill these damaged areas myself and conceal the damage with paint but I'm not sure I would buy from this company again, nor recommend them.Moreexpand_more
Response : Dear Mr Gardener, We tried to contact you to discuss the issue of damage to your doors and left messages on your answer machine but we did not hear back from you until yesterday (07/10/24) when you sent an email stating that you had “left feedback on your review section and that essentially says all that I want to say on the matter”. It is such a shame that we never got the chance to resolve this matter for you. I would have preferred to have answered and responded to your comments privately but now have no choice but to respond publicly.
The doors we import are sourced from South America (not China) from FSC approved plantations. These doors are of an exceptionally high quality and produced to a number of standard dimensions. We provide a resizing service to accommodate clients where a standard door size will not fit. The charge of £40 plus VAT or £55 plus VAT for the carpentry, depending on the size of the door represents tremendous value for money and we are very much aware that you will not be able to find any skilled and qualified carpenter to complete this type of work for you at anything approaching the rates we charge and that is if they want to do the job to start with. It is because of these difficulties that we introduced the door resizing facility. The problems you refer to with the doors was caused by transit damage whilst on route to you. Sadly, the carriers can and do damage all kinds of items passed into their care and the larger the package the greater the risk of damage. We are very experienced in packing our products to withstand the rigours of carriage but even so, if a package is treated roughly there is a risk of damage occurring even with our best efforts to prevent this. All doors are screened for defects before they leave us, and I can assure you that having seen the images of the dents and bruises referred to, the doors did not leave us in this condition. To finish, it would have been nice to have been given the opportunity to resolve this matter privately but given that you have now attended to the doors yourself we hope and trust that you are pleased with the end result.Paul MillarDirector.Moreexpand_more
