About Shinkansen Ju-Jitsu

WJJF has been continually developed since 1976, Shinkansen Ju-Jitsu is a branch of this. The Ju-Jitsu technique is unique as it lets the student use the opponent's weight against them, allowing the student to have the confidence to defend oneself. The name translates as 'flexible art', which reflects its emphasize on manipulating an opponent's force against them (as opposed to using one's own force). We train directly under the Robert Clark system of Ju-Jitsu, and all instructors are fully qualified and insured with the Federation. We offer training from white belt to black belt and further Dan grade training, catering for all self defense needs.

Everybody is welcome from 4 years upwards.

With a team that has fully qualified instructors and many developing students on hand to help, Shinkansen Ju-Jitsu has a professional team ( male and female instructors ), with highly skilled professionally dan graded instructors.

With a dojo and fully qualified instructors and assistants, the club is able to offer a professional martial art training to the general public. The training is intended to be rewarding and fun, enabling students to gain confidence and grow in the discipline of ju-jitsu.

Consisting of ju-jitsu training and self defence, the style is developed by the WJJF and is suitable for all to enjoy. Available at Norman Centre NR3 2QZ and Dussindale centre NR7 0SR in Norwich, the techniques are tailored to meet individual needs of all and will leave the student feeling confident to face any situation or avoid confrontation.

The organization is run by Brett Lemon (5th Dan International Technical officer WJJF /International representative 5th Dan Ju-Jitsu IBF ) who has been involved in the Martial Arts and Self Defense market for over 25 years. He is more than able to take good care of the training needs of all students. His training is regularly updated by training with Master grades across the Martial arts world. His training is ongoing forever building on excellence. Sensei states we are all students and forever learning together. Knowledge is power and knowledge is forever.

Shinkansen Ju-Jitsu has a steady group of students, located in Norwich, including many students looking to develop their personnel security and build on fitness with self confidence. We can teach all students from the physical disabled to helping to build confidence with anxiety and depression related illness. The club will help you defend from any threat you may face from physical violence to situations that mentally challenge.

Our daughter loves going to Ju Jitsu each week, the club is friendly and welcoming giving her confidence in learning new skills. The sensi’s have many years of experience which they share with the students and the lessons are very affordable.

Very welcoming, family orientated club. Sensei Brett is brilliant with the kids, along with Sensei Sam and Sensei Jason. Sensei Brett is very observant and helps the kids improve wherever is necessary, my child looks forward to going to Ju-Jitsu every week .

A good, friendly and welcoming club. My son has been training with the club for 4 years now. I can't thank the federation and instructors enough for what he has achieved as he has severe learning difficulties and I didn't think he would stick with it for even 6 months. However, he has grown in confidence in himself and socially, bettered his co-ordination and concentration skills and is a different person to who started 4 years back.

Today I stepped back into the dojo for the first time since December 2019. The club was so friendly and welcoming. I have anxiety and was really nervous about returning. I definitely recommend the club to everyone.

My little boy has been going to the club for nearly 2 years. He absolutely loves it. There is a very friendly and professional approach from the Sensei's and they have time for everyone. They are very mindful of people with health issues also, which makes it a very easy for anyone to train.

I have been a member now for two years, I can’t fault the club in any way, I was a late starter (in my 40’s) but with the help and support of all the Sensei’s that hasn’t stopped me, all the sensei are 100% committed and professional, a great club.

I cannot recommend this club enough! I have 20 years experience in martial arts and a black belt and brown belts in other styles and thought I was a seasoned martial artist - wrong! Jujitsu taught me that even at black belt level in other styles I knew nothing of self defence! I was a recent domestic violence survivor and took a class on a whim and sensei Brett and his team were so kind and considerate and built my confidence back up when I felt I would never feel safe again! I have cancer and the club fully supports me in every way possible to perform at my best and rest when needed, others there have physical disabilities one lovely lady is only just recently walking she learned Jujitsu sat on the floor at first, another man is in a wheelchair and they adapt the moves specifically for them! NO other club or style of martial arts would adapt a syllabus this way! The knowledge that Sensei Brett, Sami, Jim and Lori has is remarkable, true masters of this style and such great instructors even when you feel it is overwhelming to learn they break it down and show you countless times until you are confident! Not only is it good for strength and fitness, and for self defence but this is a family, and we welcome everyone to our family! You will never meet a kinder club, a more fun group of people, and a better style than this Having tried most martial arts over the years this is truly the one that will protect you if in trouble, and sensei Brett does not just teach you about how to hurt an attacker but how to avoid it and keep safe as well which is the true essence of martial arts and self defence! The kids class is also fantastic they have so much confidence, and with bullying being so high it is something I cannot recommend parents enough to do if they struggle with that, all of our little ones have exceptional confidence from very young ages!Come along and see us and start your journey to feeling safer and more confident! Thanks Sensei Brett from turning me into a scared little girl to feeling like a warrior!Moreexpand_more

I have 3 children that all attend these classes, aged 6,7, and 11. They all thoroughly enjoy their time there. They are worked hard with a good level of discipline, with fun and games thrown in too. Its the perfect balance for my children who have now graded to 2 orange belts and a yellow belt. They look forward to going each week and have a good relationship with the sensei and coaches. Having junior coaches at the club is a nice addition too. Thanks to everyone involved in the running of the club!

My husband and 5 year old and 6 year old children have been training between 2 years and 18 months now, the dojo is a lovely welcoming one, and the coaches and sensei's are knowledgeable and professional, with regular trips to hq to gain more knowledge and to keep up-to-date with changes that happen within the organisation.

When I first joined this club in 2016 I had a paralysed right leg and started in a wheelchair. The sensors adapted the syllabus just for me. Since all this I've had many health problems but it's not stopped me being part of the WJJF. I graded for my Green belt in 2020 and now working my way towards a blue and white belt. This club is friendly, welcoming and professional. We're all like family there they treat you as one, yes we all may have limitations but that doesn't matter we all work at our own levels. I can't do high kicks so we adapt them. I can stand for to long so I kneel. All these things is what helps me except my disability. Thank you to the whole of the WJJF and especially Sensei Brett, Jim, Sam, Lori and Robert for believing in me. Onwards and upwards.Moreexpand_more

My 6 year old has been going to this club for 2 years now and loves it! Great value for money, run by very friendly instructors and assistants, Not only keeping him fit and making new friends of different ages, it has given him more confidence, self discipline and taught him how to defend himself if needed. Like most martial arts you do pay insurance each year, but its great as you pay per session rather than having to pay upfront per month or term so don’t lose out if you have to miss a class! I’m looking forward to my daughter starting when shes old enough so they can both follow in my footsteps!

My son has been going to this club now for over 3 years and it has done wonders for his confidence and attitude. The club is a friendly safe environment run by Sensei Brett and his team who are all 100 per cent committed. Although discipline is high on the agenda, it is not run like a boot camp, help, advice, support and encouragement are always there when and if needed. Whether your a beginner or a high grade, everyone is treated equally, and encouraged to achieve their goal.

A good class…. The instructors closely monitor each student to ensure the technics are correct and effective. For the younger participants there is an atmosphere of fun but also a strong ethos of disipline which they readily accept and enjoy.
