We booked a private lesson for my daughter (9 years old) for Christmas and it was a fantastic experience. In two hours she learnt how to cut out a pattern, iron and sew a hem, use the sewing machine on several settings and do a button hole. She finished with an amazing-looking cushion cover and had put a button hole and button onto a bag. The teacher was really patient and friendly and we would definitely recommend it.
Attended the Replicate Your Clothes workshop. Excellent tutor and well structured course. I really enjoyed it and came away with a quite complicated pattern with darts and gathers. Looking forward to trying it out and will be working on replicating a pair of trousers next.
As a complete beginner to sewing I was fairly nervous joining a sewing club but when I got there I realised that I was not the only beginner there - in fact there was a range of sewers with different levels of experiences! This was comforting to know and made settling into my first class very simple. Fast forward a few weeks I've already completed the beginner projects and am currently working on making my own clothes which is super exciting. A warm social environment, fantastic teaching and a cup of tea. I'm super satisfied!
I'm only on week 2 of the sew stretch jersey top/ dress course. It's totally fab, hard work concentrating on what to do and it is quite difficult but Kat is very good and patient teacher and the class has only 4 lovely people on it who are all happy just getting on with things. It's not intimidating and is a lovely place to learn new sewing things in. I'm loving it. I'm in it for the learning and not too worried about the outcome as I know I will be able to apply the learning again and again.
I completed the how to use a sewing machine course at the end of August, and as a complete beginner it was fantastic. I came away with a cushion cover, a little zip purse and a drawstring bag and last but not least a newly found love of sewing. With a small group, it meant we were provided with a personal touch, the chance to ask questions and make sure we understood. I have since bought a sewing machine and have been practising loads. Next step, clothes and patterns!
I love Sew In Brighton, great teachers lovely space and free tea. I've learnt how to use my overlocker and how to tailor sewing patterns to fit my figure and been given lots of attention to improve my sewing and come out with wearable pieces that people have complimented me on! If you're learning to sew or are experienced in sewing and want to push yourself Sew In Brighton is defintly the place for you. I've just been given birthday vouchers this month for classes so I cant wait to book more lessons.
I have learned how to use a sewing machine, practised quilting techniques and and made a fab bag. I am currently making a blouse from a pattern, in stitch class, where Kat is very patiently taking me through the process step by step. I am particularly impressed with the quality of teaching; attention given to ensuring the garment fits well and with the tips and demonstrations given along the way. There is always a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere in the sewing room; it feels great to learn a new skill with support always on hand.
My friend and I have spent the last few hours thoroughly enjoying ourselves learning to make a simple bag. We took our machines and found out some of the simple mistakes we have been making. I will definitely continue making things, and will probably book I'm another session. Very freinedly, helpful and patient tutor. Thank you.
Really beautiful room with lots of lovely things to look at and inspire you - I left wanting to sign up to lots of other classes so I could make knickers and bunting and skirts! I got exactly what I wanted from the lesson - I was a complete knitting beginner, and the very patient sue had me knitting by the end. Really relaxed atmosphere where you can work at your own pace and on your own projects. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn something new.
I have just started my 2nd series of Stitch Morning classes. Sew in Brighton has been a real find - for someone who hasn't been near a sewing machine in 30yrs! Starting with 2 cushions (overlap back then side zip), then a mini curtain before attempting my big project of bay window ones, was definitely the way to go - and clock up those straight-stitching miles! Kat has been the perfect teacher: from patiently showing the basics - pinning, pressing, machining and hand-sewing - to inspiring with her techniques and tips and obvious industry experience. Being a teacher myself I'm also struck by how well she 'differentiates' in the class, making sure everyone feels supported and encouraged no matter what the level or project. I'm doing the wall tidy with pockets now and can't wait to start on clothes! Thank you Sew in Brighton for giving me the confidence to proudly say "I made it myself! ".
Being. Complete beginner I booked 3 classes I was taught how to use my own sewing machine and was thrilled with the cushion I made. My next project is a sun dress which I managed to get started and I now feel more confident about sewing. I will certainly book more classes in the future.
I started as a complete beginner and had no idea if Id like sewing. But, I have loved my weekly sew sessions. Kat is very attentive to detail and encouraging. She has taken me step by step at my own -very slow - pace. The other participants are really friendly and at different stages and speed, so it's always interesting to see what can be done in the future. I find the sessions relaxing and enjoyable. What's more, I can reproduce at home what I've learnt in the session.
So far, I have only completed the first week of my three week course, but I was amazed at how much I managed to achieve in just one week with no prior sewing experience. The instructor was very warm and knowledgeable. This, coupled with friendly class mates, made for a very enjoyable first week. I am really looking forward to the next class.
I have just bought an electric sewing machine, having not used one for many years I was delighted to discover Sew In Brighton. The teachers are very friendly and informative, offering many helpful tips whilst using a new machine. This has given me confidence and knowledge to begin sewing on my own at home. The classes take place in a relaxed atmosphere, the sewing lounge feels cosy and has everything you need to hand. As the classes are no larger than six people we receive individual instruction and guidance when needed. I was really impressed that during my first class I completed a cushion cover! Kat and Deborah are really enthusiastic which has inspired me to go back!
As I am just a child, i thought this course was going to be very hard for me, but with all the support from my mum and most of all, the teacher I got on very well and had a lot of fun. My mum signed us up for this course when I got a sewing machine for my birthday, and i'm really glad she did. I found the teacher and the other people their very friendly and helpful. Thanks!
