Established in 2000, Seer Computing began as a purely Oracle focused Consultancy, quickly it became very apparent to us that the UK and Ireland was crying out for reliable, professional training services. So using our knowledge we pooled together to create courses which we would want our new staff to attend, full of information, loaded with examples and plenty of exercises. Basically value for money so that attendees are ready to work immediately at whatever topic the course is on.

What we found amazing is how long it takes to write a quality course, we are not talking about spelling and general layouts, it's about checking your facts and getting them in the right order, making sure the topic is well explained.
When we start looking at a new course we clear an entire wall and use post-its to write all the main topics. Some of our five day courses have over 40 sections each one a new topic for us to tell you about, that section has its own post-it then we break that down into the areas to be discussed and the right order, that’s twice we've said 'right order', basically a good course has to flow, you build up the understanding in small understandable chunks, with plenty of exercises to re-enforce the learning, suddenly at the end the five days you are an above average Java Programmer or whatever you are with us to learn.

The final part in this massive jigsaw are the exercises, although our Consultant will always be on hand to assist, the exercises are designed so that there are examples similar to what is required are given before the exercise pages. We don’t make it easy but we like to think we have found the balance between a challenge and paying lip service to trying things out. Our first training course (Oracle SQL) was launched in July 2000 and was quickly followed by the Oracle PLSQL course which is the complement course to the SQL one, with these two courses we established ourselves as knowledgeable experts in these areas enhancing our already growing reputation as foremost Oracle consultants.
As time went on we developed more and more training courses fueled by the demand from our increasing number of regular clients, some courses we created purely for Companies who had specific requirements, particularly when a system had to be rolled out to front end Users. We would go in and develop a course explaining the interface and putting the Users at ease. At present we have over 150 courses ranging from Java to PHP to Oracle programming, we are high end, we don’t do Excel or Word and areas such as these.

On the Consultancy side we are specialists in front end systems using Oracle and MySQL Databases as the feeder system, we can analyse, consult and build your Database for you, as well as provide your User Interface. Anything from a Database health check to a full Database re-design. One of our Consultants will be happy spending time discussing your needs.

We offer the full Project Management support package too, very experienced in making sure your IT project comes in on time and budget, many Projects fail because there isn’t a strong hand on the tiller, an Independent Project Management time will the get the best out of your resources.

Finally, ask about our App building expertise, we have a number of business orientated Android and iOS apps available for download, targeted at Programmers and Developers but we have also developed a generic news App which can be used in-house or released publicly to improve your Company's communication stream.

On-Site training/consultancy.
One of our greatest strengths is that wherever you are in the UK or Ireland we will come to you to perform the course(s) of your choosing or the Consultancy you need.
This means that your staffs don’t need to be away from the office, cutting down on traveling expenses and overnight stays, in fact in these post-Covid times, we can even arrange a conference centre close to your offices to isolate from the rest of your employees.
When we train in any of our 150+ courses, we come with all machinery needed for the duration, this means individual machines for each delegate, comprehensive manuals and all materials including a rather nice pen with a built in LED light … At no point will we need to connect to your WI-Fi, network but we will need power sockets, we've not found a laptop yet which can run an Oracle Database for ten hours on its battery. The room requirements are pretty basic, we need tables and chairs, don’t need a projector but when you book we will ask about a flip chart, sometimes it's nice to keep information up so that Delegates can refer back to it.

If you haven’t got a suitable room we can always hire a conference room nearby which will of course include a lunch (subject to additional charges).
Another advantage of on-site is that you can choose the timings of the course, we are flexible around your Delegate's work patterns and a number of times we have started as early as 7am so that we are finished by the end of the shift.

When we are performing Consultancy we will let you know what we need access to and can if required work remotely. We are used to being sent data flow charts in the post and can usually work out how a system should be structured from that, but there is no substitute to seeing the front end and evaluating its usefulness to the System. Even now we find Databases with tables which are never accessed and even more common is a column in a table which no-one knows why it's there! If nothing else we make sure everything is documented and we find out what everything does.

In most circumstances our work as Consultants is fully documented with a full set of recommendations, before we spend any time on your System, it will be agreed what the aims and outcomes are, and where necessary each stage will be signed off to each party's satisfaction.

Public training courses.
Even though our portfolio has over 150 courses, all of which can be attended at our offices or most likely on-site or near to your office. We have selected the most popular courses of the moment and have scheduled them at key cities in the UK and Ireland throughout the year. These courses have the same content as those given on-site and are always held at high quality conference centres near public transport routes and ample parking.

Each course has ample refreshments during the day, luncheon provided. Starts are at 9am and finish each day at 4.30pm.

Numbers attending are limited to 6 Delegates, each will have individual workstations, manuals and all materials needed for the course.

It's important to note that we never cancel a course once a Delegate is booked. We are aware some Course providers need a minimum number, that’s not us, we will honour the booking, you want the course enough to book it, we will honour the arrangement.

Project Management.
Think it's pretty obvious given the nature of our Company that we are talking about IT Project Management, although in reality a housing project will have the same milestones and budget constraints but we know what we excel at so we stick to IT projects primarily within the UK and Ireland.
What can we provide regarding Project Management? Well, a number of discrete services from managing your entire Project to jumping in when things get too overwhelming for your current team members.
Our ideal scenario is that we are the start of the Project lifecycle, but we know that's not always possible, fortunately, we are used to parachuting in to save a Project, a lot of time Projects are on the brink of failure because of a variety of different but predictable reasons, normally this is down to the wrong people in wrong places, sometimes ambition writes cheques that a person is unable to cash.
Seer Computing is used to cutting through the chaff and getting straight to the heart of the problems, one of the main advantages to being an Independent Consultancy is that we are not afraid to speak the truth and give the Project a good shake up.

Our Project Managers can be full time and full on or provide an overview service making sure everything is heading in the right direction.

Data Consultancy.

This was the primary reason Seer Computing was created, three likely lads (old guys) with 40 years' experience in Oracle Databases got together to form a Data Consultancy in 2000.

Data Consultancy covers a wide parish so we'll tell you what areas we can give you the best service in and you can decide whether you wish to discuss your options.
System reviews have always been an area we excel at, in a nutshell, we examine your current systems, find and report the weaknesses and discuss all of the possible solutions, we find this focuses a Company, making them realise their data isn’t being utilised as well as it could be.

One very large firm, never knew the Company's current position from one week to another, how can Senior Managers be expected to make important decisions when they only see the complete Company's performance at the start of each calendar month. In such circumstances we look at improving the communications, establishing a Data Warehouse or something similar where decision can be made in a timely manner.

Another aspect of your data is accuracy, Data is the most valuable asset a Company can have but it has to be not only secure but accurate. We have found in the past that call centre employees find ways round certain fields but typing in incorrect emails but getting round the built in Database constraints; Or maybe the Database has very flabby validation, we can help by pin pointing where these problems are occurring and recommend solutions.
