Sash Window Revival

I would not hesitate to recommend Howard. I had a problem with a Jeldwen sash window that wouldn’t operate correctly, that l only discovered at the end of a tenancy on inspection. I didn’t phone him until 5pm – but despite saying he would not be able to come out as he was so busy, he sensed my desperation and came out at 6. 15pm that evening. He told me he didn’t deal with this kind of sash, but spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix it with some success and wouldn’t charge me, as he had not been able to fully resolve the issue. He also checked all the other sash windows on the property for me. There are very few people like Howard left – l am really grateful to him, he is undoubtedly the kindest person l have ever met.

Following a site survey (his response time was Olympic standard), Howard provided a guide cost, also a summary of works. Howard is an exceptional craftsman and the go-to guy for repairing sash windows and for any draft excluding solutions for traditional doors and windows. He recently helped my mother with a project to repair and improve the draft excluders in a number of traditional exterior doors at her cottage. In addition, he assisted with a number of other tricky tasks which required the skills of an accomplished carpenter. After conducting a thorough survey to assess what work was required, Howard subsequently completed the project in an expert, timely and friendly manner. I was impressed by how efficiently he worked and the fact that he made sure to tidy up once finished. Given the age and character of the property, it was not possible to instal pre-configured draft proofing kits. Howard deployed his skills to build a bespoke solution for each door, which fitted perfectly and completely eliminated any draft. Howard completed the overhaul and draft proofing of 26 windows at our Edwardian property last summer at competitive cost. His professionalism and attention to detail is second to none and the work performed was exemplary. It is rare to find someone who takes such pride and care in his work. He is friendly, generous and incredibly kind as well as extremely knowledgeable. We have a separate annex which has several sash windows that also require attention and we will have no hesitation in instructing Howard again to do those repairs. Cannot recommend highly enough. Howard came to view our very sad, tired sash windows that did not open more than an inch! He gave us a quote after inspecting the windows, we accepted and yesterday for the first time in years, the windows open, both top and bottom! I cannot recommend Howard highly enough, he's done a terrific job of fully renovating, draughtproofing and restoring some windows in a victorian flat, which now operate effortlessly, and are as quiet now after he has finished, as they were with the awful secondary glazing fitted, (which has now gone). From initial contact through to completion, I found Howard to be a genuine chap, really easy to deal with, and completely with the interests of the customer in mind. His work was neat and tidy, and he showed complete respect for the property and others working around him at all times. His communication both on and off the job was excellent, and its clear that Howard has a true passion for his business. The renovation of the frames was sympathetic to retaining as much of the original structure as possible, and replacing the rotten sections completely with hardwood. The finished product doesn't look like a new window, it retains its character but works and performs like a new window. Many thanks Howard.

Able Carpentry, now trading as Sash Window Revival. Howard performed a comprehensive site visit, with full explanation of the works recommended, and provided a competitive price. The refurbishment of 8 late Georgian windows was carried out competently and efficiently, leaving a marked difference to the performance of the windows for both ease of opening and quality of fit. Howard was easy to have around the house during the works, totally trustworthy, adhered to timescale; downside - have plenty of coffee available!

Howard was recommended to me by two neighbours when I admired his workmanship and he did a brilliant job renovating my sash windows and making them draft proof! Great plus is he's a very tidy worker and hoovered inside and outside the house! Great service, arrived on time on the day he had booked with me and even helped me construct an Ikea wardrobe without losing his cool…. Howard Greenland came for the first time last year, he successfully made our bedroom and bathroom windows draft proof so we asked him to come back this year to repeat the exercise in 3 other rooms which meant draft proofing and re sashing 8 windows which he had again completed successfully. The biggest bonus is that he pleasant to have in the house and extremely considerate, the mess would be considerable were it not for the effort he puts into reducing this as much as he possibly can. When he leaves the rooms look as they did when he arrived and he uses new dust sheets to cover items that have not been moved from the rooms.

Howard undertook the restoration of 29 windows for us all of which were rotten to one degree or another. It was an enormous job and we were delighted both with his work and with the ease of working with him.
