About Sarah Louise Doula
Hi, I'm Sarah - As a birth and postnatal doula, I serve families in and around London, providing the compassionate, continuous care and support that every parent deserves. I’m here to offer you a comforting presence and hand to hold, whether you’re preparing for birth or navigating the early days with your newborn. My goal is to empower you with knowledge, reassure you with encouragement, and ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
As the medical world continues to play an increasing part in birth, with women feeling less in control of their own bodies, and the lack of the ‘village’ community around to support them, having a doula is the best thing you can do to feel in control, educated and empowered to get the birth that you want.
What is a doula?
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek term meaning “a woman who serves”, reflecting the supportive role doulas have played for centuries. Historically, doulas have been women in the community who helped mothers during birth, offering comfort, reassurance, and practical assistance.
Today, a doula is there to support you through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period by providing information, advocacy, and offering practical and emotional support to you and your family.
Wherever and however you want to give birth, a doula is there to discuss your options and preferences, and will help you find the evidence-based information you need to feel informed, empowered and confident in your decisions.
A doula will work alongside other medical professionals such as midwives and doctors, but focuses on the needs of the mother and family in a non-medical way. The doula will advocate for you and support you to feel heard and understood along the way.
Doulas provide personalised continuity of care, tailored to your needs, creating a nurturing and warm environment where you feel comfortable sharing your hopes and fears.
