Materials that we use.
We use both English and European oak in the construction of our buildings, the difference being in the method of cultivation.
We use English oak, from local PEFC* accredited, mixed deciduous woodland.
European oak, though genetically identical, to English oak, is cultivated in single species forests. This in turn creates competition between oak trees in growth, producing trees with much longer, straighter trunks ideal for use in the construction of the oak frame. (English timbers seen in older oak framed buildings were traditional cultivated with this same method).
Listed building surveys.
When purchasing a listed building, it is important to understand it’s structural condition.
Historic building surveys of listed buildings need a higher level of expertise and precision to that of a standard building survey.
Our experience in the conservation of period and listed buildings, and the experience of our structural advisers means we can offer a full range of services from architectural and structural building surveys, to advice on alterations needing listed building planning consent.
( It is a criminal offence to carry out any works on a listed building without proper authorization. Our expert team are able to assist you with any queries you have over planning, or alternatively take care of the process for you).
