Calling all jaded musicians- learn the drums with Ian! I had a year of drum lessons with Ian after my son, who drums with Ian, demonstrated all sort of piano skills ( rhythm, performance, left-hand independence) despite never having had a piano lesson. As well as being enormous fun, I learnt so much musicianship I could transfer to my primary instrument. After years of not being able to progress my piano playing, I am enjoying it more than ever, now with a internalised sense of rhythm I never had before. Ian is an excellent teacher, breaks everything down in achievable steps, keeps things moving and fun, positive and enthusiastic, lovely person and whatever your ability, you will feel like a rockstar. Highly recommended.
Ian has been teaching my 8 year old for a year. He has learnt so much about drumming and music. Ian is an excellent teacher and happy to adapt his planned lessons if my son wants more help with a particular exercise. My son gets weekly handouts to work on at home. Ian’s teaching style has given my son more self confidence and helped his concentration. Ian encourages us to contact him between lessons if any extra help is needed. Ian is a fantastic teacher and I would highly recommend him.
Ian's been teaching my eldest, starting when he was 7. Ian's a really great teacher for kids with state of the art equipment and support. What I particularly like is that he has a standing offer to answer any questions during the week -- so for instance I'd share a progress video during the week and Ian would provide great feedback. Excellent service! One time we couldn't make the lesson so he did a special video for us to help guide the following week's playing. Also he has 100% pass rate on his students taking grading lessons because he's very rigorous, also sharing example recordings on his YouTube channel. Top notch!
I've come to drums a bit late in life but am really enjoying learning with Ian. His lessons quickly gave me some basic skills to start enjoying playing drums from day 1 and yet he constantly introduces new challenges to keep the learning moving. His style of teaching and general manner are far beyond what you can get from watching tutorial videos online. I have recommended him to a number of fellow Dad's who are now jealous that I've got a drum kit and can play it.
Having had a taste of the drums from a corporate challenge I was keen to find someone who could help me carry on and learn how to play the drums properly. I have now had 3 lessons with Ian and feel myself progressing in leaps and bounds. A lovely encouraging way of teaching (with plenty of experience and patience! ). I look forward to my lessons each week and the hour goes far too quickly! Would highly recommend.
Ian is a hugely knowledgeable teacher not only teaching my daughter to play the drums but also the necessary background musical knowledge to be able to understand the instrument and keep. Progressing. Lessons are fun and engaging and always meticulously planned specifically to get and her progress. She loves going and I enjoy watching!
I starting taking lessons off Ian back around 2012 taking grades to achieve my qualifications to attended BIMM London, (drumming uni) was very easy to work alongside and a great teacher, always makes the lessons intresting and adds a helpful eliment to ever end of each lesson. Hope to go back soon and see how he's doing.
I have been having lessons with Ian for about a year and I thoroughly recommend him. I came to Ian primarily because I wanted to improve my fills, which I have always felt were not my strength. A year later and I am a much more confident and creative drummer. Ian is a very conscientious person and really puts a lot of effort into making sure you achieve your goals. He is also very methodical in his approach and makes the lessons fun, which is how an effective tutor should be. I can highly recommend Ian.
I've been going to Ian for about a year now and feel my playing has really come on tremendously. His lessons are always fun with a good balance of basic techniques, 'insider tips', and practical play along drumming dynamics and grooves. The hour flies by but he always leaves you with plenty to think about and explore between lessons. Excellent stuff.
I am having a great time having my first drum lessons in my 50s - having played in bands in teens and twenties and only tinkered since then. Just the right mix of work and play. The worksheets and mix of activities really help. And the mix of styles too. Only 4 stars because I have nothing to compare with.
Ian has been teaching my son through the grades for a couple of years and has made all the difference from previous tutors. Gives out personal lesson plans and rudiments to keep things moving but allows exploration and fun, so not all work. Ian's enthusiasm for drumming is very apparent.
Ian is a very patient and methodical teacher. He introduces new fills and grooves into each lesson but is also careful to balance this by re-capping any area's where the student might be experiencing a little difficulty. Adding practical examples of well known songs from a wide variety of musical styles helps make the learning experience great fun. I would thoroughly recommend the Repercussion Drum School to anyone and as one of Ian's more 'mature' students, my only regret is that I didn't pick up the sticks sooner!
I bought an introductory lesson package as a gift for my wife. She was delighted to be doing "real drumming" after the first session, proceeded to buy an electronic kit and more lessons, rapidly growing in confidence. Ian's friendly, patient and skillful teaching made a REAL difference.
