Simon provided me with a fantastic, modern, classy bathroom, August 2020, replacing a dreadful, damp, patch-job space. From the intial visit and quotation, he made suggestions I wouldn't have thought of, answered all my queries, gave the pros and cons when I was swithering about matters; and was very clear about the service, quality and value that he offered. If I wanted another 'patch' job, he wasn't the guy to hire. I didn't. He gutted the old fittings, removed the defunct cold-water tank above the door in my narrow bathroom. Simon wasn't daunted by challenges: unearthed electrics; numerous bags of rubble; dodgy plumbing between kitchen/bathroom and outside, etc that he had to make good. He dealt with it all. His standards are exacting. I felt assured, throughout. He gave me daily updates/sent photos; on top of the original, detailed quotation and costing. My neighbours all reported nice things about him, his attitude; and he kept the stair clean (v important in a tenement). I had seen his work before c/o two friends. It's different, though, when you are the one making decisions involving a big outlay and where to move out to in a pandemic. He's a perfectionist, tells it straight, is trustworthy, kept my property safe and just knows his business, inside out. What's not to like. I'm delighted.Moreexpand_more
Simon installed a wet room for us a couple of years ago, so when we decided it was time to refresh our kitchen we didn’t want anyone else to do it. We ‘just’ wanted to re-create our previous layout but with the addition of a high level oven. Sounds simple? Anything but, as we’re not master tradesmen we just didn’t appreciate how much work is involved, in an old tenement where nothing is straight and the walls are not perpendicular. The last fitter (20 yrs ago), just attached the kitchen units to those walls, and left them leaning, after which we had to get a decorator to ‘make good’. Simon took responsibility for the whole job. He re-plastered the walls and ceiling (which unexpectedly involved replacing sections of rotten plaster), replaced skirting, removed and cut the quartz worktop to fit, fitted the units we had ordered from DIY kitchens (who are great, and really helpful), fitted new electrics and then painted and decorated. Simon is a first class worker, sets high standards for himself, and achieved a perfect result for us once again. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending him. Our photo of the finished kitchen can't capture the quality of the preparation and finish. .Moreexpand_more
Simon did a fantastic job of my bathroom. Work was not without its challenges, including lugging a very heavy cast-iron bath up 2 flight of stairs (a task he may have lived to regret agreeing to! – reinforcements were needed). A large very unfortunate awkward-looking steel beam was also found unexpectedly on ripping out the original bathroom, which was propping up an upstairs external wall, and the overall plan had to be adapted. I had no idea what to do with it and financing a structural engineer and work to remove it just wasn’t an option for me. However, Simon was able to provide some options for solutions and guided me through the process, subsequently boxing the beam in very neatly. He also provided advice regarding changes I needed to make to the lighting given that I could no longer have a light central to the room. I am extremely happy with the result and now feel like I am bathing in a rather fancy hotel suite. Simon is very hard-working, honest and straight-talking. He clearly takes a lot of pride in his work, showing a great deal of knowledge and experience, with superb attention to detail. He provided a very detailed quote initially, and gave advice and information regarding fixtures, fittings and materials. Communication was excellent, and he was always very prompt at getting back to me and showing up when he said he would. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone and already have, with several people asking for his details, following having seen my bathroom. His work speaks for itself. .Moreexpand_more
We wanted a wet-room installed in our small tenement bathroom to replace a small bath and leaky loo! Where others firms had only seen problems, Simon came up with a solution which works for us and which we (and everyone who has seen it) loves. There was no hard sell on units or fittings, as Simon left us to choose our own. When the work started Simon and Joe worked tirelessly until the job was finished, dealing with problems such as an old cracked waste along the way, without complaint. The house was tidied every day, the tenement stair kept clean, and the finished job is immaculate. Simon is a first class worker who sets high standards for himself and achieved a perfect result for us. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending him.
Simon’s work is absolutely outstanding. We first worked with him and his team a few years ago when he installed a new wetroom for us, and when we bought a new flat in central Edinburgh, in need of major work, we knew there was no one else we wanted for the job - Simon’s craftsmanship, perfectionism, technical expertise and problem-solving are second to none. This was an extremely demanding six-month job which involved completely stripping out the existing flat, including levelling floors, taking down partition walls, and knocking through walls to create through five new openings. He laid a beautiful new 140 sq metre engineered parquet floor, installed two new ensuite bath/wetrooms with underfloor heating, a new kitchen and laundry, a walk-in closet, a large pair of sliding pocket doors between the newly opened-up kitchen and sitting room, complete central heating system with state-of-the-art boiler and new cast-iron radiators, and oversaw re-plastering of walls and the complete electrical re-wiring of the flat. The finish on everything is of the highest possible quality and we couldn't be more delighted.
We had our kitchen and bathroom refurbished. We had never undergone these sort of works before and didn't know where to start. Simon was quick to come round and offer quotes for various options. We are really happy with the work. Adding a light tunnel to the bathroom has been great. The kitchen is more spacious and pleasant to be in. It felt like that if there was ever an issue, Simon found the solution rather than just leaving it. He wanted to make sure that we got the rooms we wanted. We.Thank you for your patience with us.
We moved into an old tenement that was equipped with 1 room for a stand up shower and a small room across the hall for a toilet. It looked like previous tenants had piecemealed together fittings on a 'need to fix' basis and we had no idea of the state of the floor (though it seemed squishy and we had heard there was a flood in the past). With these factors in mind we definitely needed an upfront, fixed rate bathroom re-do that was fair! We had a limited budget and Simon worked with us to help deliver the maximum value for money while doing an amazingly thorough renovation. They took out everything and stripped down to the bricks, they checked for water damage and refit old pipes, they even caught a wire that looked like a potential fire hazard and helped us with that! The whole process ran right to schedule and we couldn't be happier with the finished product. We would highly recommend Refresh Kitchen and Bathrooms to anyone and will definitely use them again if we ever move or decide to 'refresh' our kitchen! The bathroom, thankfully, is now good for a long time! Thanks.
We had our existing bathroom suite removed and replaced with a new vanity unit, wash hand basin, wc, and the bath was replaced with a shower enclosure with "wetwall" boards. We had Amtico flooring and, as a result of the bath being replaced, we had a bare patch where the bath used to be. Fortunately we had some spare Amtico tiles left from the original laying of the floor and Simon made a brilliant job of filling the gap. The result was excellent and the work was done efficiently, with care and very tidily. We had used Refresh Kitchens and Bathrooms before in refitting our kitchen and we were very satisfied with their work on that occasion.
We recently moved into a top floor tenement flat and needed our bathroom renovated, ie. Completely replaced. It had old fittings, no ventilation and soft mouldy wood walls. Simon provided a great service from start to finish and was our choice out of a number of quotes received from other tradesmen. He replied to our query promptly and arranged to visit and assess the job immediately (I was amazed that many others did not seem to want to visit). Very soon after he provided a very detailed breakdown of the job required and his quote. Compared to the others we found the quote very reasonable. He then gave us a wide range of sources to explore to choose our fittings and was very helpful in guiding us towards items that suited our space and budget. The work itself was undertaken very professionally and efficiently, with great consideration for our neighbours (the stairwell was kept very tidy throughout) and our flat was remarkably clean when I came home each day! We were kept in the loop throughout and the work was completed entirely on schedule (removing the old bathroom and taking everything back to brick, replacing the pipes, lighting, installing extractor, tiling, flooring, fittings etc was completed in 10 days). Needless-to-say we are very pleased with the result and with the service Simon provided and hope that he'll have time to do the kitchen too when the time is right!Moreexpand_more
Had new bathroom fitted by Refresh kitchens and bathrooms recently and couldn’t be happier - it’s now my favourite room in the house. The thorough job carried out and attention to detail makes me confident it will look great for years to come. Simon gave lots of advice too about products that would work for me when I didn’t know what to choose and kept me well unformed throughout the whole process. Highly recommended.
We had Refresh Kitchen and Bathrooms do our upstairs ensuite, (Simon and Joe) Simon came and talked the job over and we discussed what we were after, we excepted their quote and they gave us a starting date, they turned up on time, and they work very hard each day, after stripping back the walls and down to the floorboards they came up with a few unexpected problems which they discussed with us, they had no problem overcoming these, they tidy up at the end of each day and discuss what they will be doing the next day, after two weeks the job was finished and although not the cheapest the results are superb, a first class job the look was better than we had expected, so much so we asked Simon to book us in for our bathroom downstairs later in the year, we needed them to start earlier and rung Simon to ask him if they had an earlier start date, which they date, our downstairs bathroom is now finished and again looks amazing, another first class job, we needed a new window but it wasnt ready before we went on holiday, Simon installed it while we were away, he sent us a couple of pictures of the installed window, I would not hesitate to recommend Refresh Kitchen and Bathrooms, Simon and Joe are hard working reliable and trustworthy guys, and although not the cheapest the result you get is a fantastic looking bathroom that will last a very long time, cheers guys.
Simon has recently completed a full refit- room was stripped back to brickwork and joists-of our tiny tenement bathroom. The attention to detail and finish is 1st class. Although the bathroom is tiny the preparation work was excellent. We left Simon to get on with the job without us being there and it was completed on time and within budget. Any queries were always answered promptly and we were updated on a daily basis with the progress. The finished bathroom went beyond our expectations and we would recommend Refresh Kitchens and Bathrooms to anyone.
A relatively complicated bathroom fit which required a little thinking outside of the box and somebody to take the time and the care to do a proper job. So, so glad we worked with Simon @ Refresh. He was fast, professional, very clean, courteous and straight talking which I liked. He also wasn't shy to express his opinion which is often useful as what he doesn't know about bathroom design and fixtures/fittings isn't worth knowing. Simon takes care of all trades himself which is rare, and extremely convenient. No hesitation in recommending to anybody who wants a proper job done.
We used Simon in September 2016 (been meaning to post this review since then…) to replace our bathroom. Simon was very helpful before this in providing extensive advice on what we wished to do and checking on fittings we were looking to order. During the process of stripping the room back to the bare brick and building it back up, Simon kept us up to date with progress, even when we were out of the country, by sending us pictures of progress. Progress was hampered due to a couple of issues with fittings provided by our own supplier, together with exceptionally tough tiles to cut (sorry Simon, but they do look great! ), but Simon continued on until the job was completed. The end result was a bathroom we'd been hoping for, one that is now actually warm and with a quality finish we are sure will last a lot longer than the previous one.
I had a main bathroom fully refurbished by Refresh and was so happy with the whole process and result. Simon was extremely professional and knew exactly what he was talking about. I had a number of quotes from other companies - each of them saying 'ah, we can't do this or we can't do that' - Simon worked out solutions to allow me to get the bathroom just how I wanted it. He provided excellent advise, explaining different options thoroughly and patiently. The main plus point was how clean and tidy Refresh were. Protective plastic was fitted over flooring and carpets leading to the bathroom prior to work starting and each night everything was tidied up and vacuumed. I'm really pleased with my new bathroom and it has been admired by everyone.
Simon has just completed a total bathroom refurb for us. Wow, what a service. The workmanship, customer service, attention to detail, punctuality all truly 5*. Simon and Jo arrived bang on 8am and every morning, bliss, and at the end of every day a full progress report was given and everything tidied away including the bannisters being dusted! It was brilliant to have any query and email answered immediately with guidance on what would work best. Simon's was the only estimate to fully detail a total strip back of the foundations…. May have cost more but truly worth it to have the job done properly from scratch- less about design more about quality of workmanship…. Hoorah. Could not recommend Simon highly enough - thank you.
We had used Simon before for an upgrade to our kitchen. Because of the quality of the workmanship of that job we had no hesitation in asking him to refit the Ensuite in our guest room. Again, we were not disappointed. From the initial visit and discussions to the ordering and the completion of the work all went according to plan. He is extremely well organised, meticulous and tidy. All floorings were protected and any mess was cleared up at the end of the working day. His knowledge of bathroom fitting is second to none so he can cope with any problems that may arise and advise how best to get round them. It is good to know that he sees a job through from start to finish and doesn't juggle more than one job at a time. Because he can do all of the installation himself there is no problem with wasted time waiting on other tradesmen. We are extremely happy with the quality and style of our new Ensuite. I have no hesitation in recommending Simon and he will be our first port of call when we upgrade our family bathroom.Moreexpand_more
We've used Simon in our previous home to remodel our ensuite and kitchen. Based on the quality of work, we asked Simon to help us out with our new bathroom. We wanted to replace tiles with wet wall, repair our damaged Ikea(non-porcelain) bath and put a cabinet on the wall. As our budget was tight, we wanted to keep existing fixtures. Simon gave us an excellent price and could even get the bath repaired! As expected, the work was finished out on time and to a high standard. Simon also took care to tidy up every evening after finishing work and even covered the carpeted areas with plastic to prevent damage. We also appreciated that when Simon removed our existing tiles that the pipe work to the shower needed replaced so he did this - great since we'd been having issues with leaks before. We would highly recommend Simon for the quality of his work, attention to detail and competitive pricing.Moreexpand_more
Simon has recently completed renovating the ground floor in our townhouse, knocking through to create open plan living, and subsequently putting down new Karndean flooring and repositioning new radiators, before refitting our new kitchen and some modern living units in the lounge. He took great care, and works in a very neat and organised fashion, always being onsite when he tells you he is going to be (generally 8-4 Mon -Fri)- how rare is that? He also researched and solved any minor issues that needed rethinking as we went through the project. We were so happy with the result, we have since re-employed him to refit our basement floor and 2 bathroom floors with new radiators. I would reccommend Simon to anyone.
