About Rachel Stokes Sports & Remedial Massage

Key Products :

Rachel Stokes has been qualified as a massage therapist since 2002. She has treated over 500 clients, both human and equine. Rachel provides Sports Massage and Kinesio Taping to clients based at her professional ground floor treatment room in Bishops Stortford. Rachel visits horses at their own yards within Herts and Essex. She works with clients in a variety of sporting and equestrian disciplines, and also those who suffer with muscular fatigue within their occupation and poor posture.

Sports Massage Therapy is a deep tissue massage using a variety of techniques including STR (soft tissue release) NMT (neuromuscular therapy) and MET (muscle energy technique). They involve the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues and using passive and active stretches.

The treatments aim to loosen tight muscles, break down scar tissue/adhesions in the muscle fibres, and also to restore and maintain functionality and flexibility of the muscles and tendons. It can help the muscles perform better and most importantly to prevent injury. Muscular injuries heal more effectively with the help of sports massage.

Muscular fatigue is very common with occupational stress and poor posture. I use Kinesio Taping where appropriate, for example, it can help facilitate muscles that are dormant/inactive and inhibit those muscles that are over-active/over used. Treating minor muscular injuries that occur naturally with strenuous activity is a vital part of a human and equine athlete's training schedule. The sessions can help with pre and post-competition, rehabilitation, and post-surgery. Monthly maintenance sessions are recommended.

Sports Massage is not only designed for athletes but to any person or horse who suffers with muscular pain whether from your sport, occupation or poor posture.

The first treatment includes an initial consultation, postural analysis, and an individual tailored sports massage session. After-Care advice will be given at the end of each session which may include stretches to be done at home.

A massive help to my shoulder problem. Great advice, professional and clean. Many thanks.

I went to see Rachel after a long term back problem that the nhs couldn't fix. She was very thorough in the initial consultation and made me feel at ease. She really knows her stuff and I am now pain free, as well as knowing how to stop the pain from returning. There's no pressure to keep seeing Rachel, I still go once a month to keep things ticking over. I would highly recommend Rachel to anyone who wants their problem solved. Thank you Rachel!

I found Rachel over a year ago now when I damaged my right arm getting something out of the attic. I now regularly go every month to get all my aches and pains looked after, which unsurprisingly now I'm getting older are becoming more and more! Rachel is kind and approachable and always has something to talk about. Couldn't recommend her more highly.

Rachel has offered an excellent service. She is giving me treatment on my back following a flare-up of an old injury which I had surgery on several years ago. She demonstrates excellent knowledge of the anatomy of the body and how the muscles work. She gives targeted massage to address the problem areas and offers advice and stretches as well as kineseotape. My symptoms have begun to improve as a result of this service. Highly recommended.

I see Rachel regularly and she really knows her stuff. She suggests things you can do outside of seeing her to improve on your condition or ailment and really does care about seeing you healthy, fit and mobile.

I started seeing Rachel due to back ache. Soon I found out that I have a scoliosis. Rachel worked on my muscles and chiropractor worked on my spine. I am feeling much better now and my muscles are not tight. Back ache is nearly gone. Rachel makes you feel very comfortable, she is very professional and her massage really helps!

Rachel was really able to help my shoulder and also suggesting stretches to do whilst at work has been really helpful, along with the advise on how to change my desk set up.

I was recommended to Rachel by a local Chiropodist in Bishop's Stortford. Rachel is clearly a master of her profession. For months I had been suffering from lower leg discomfort, due to running and boot camp classes. After two sessions with Rachel I have seen a huge improvement in my legs. I now see Rachel as an essential part of my fitness maintenance. If you are in need of a good sports massage, this is where you need to be.

Despite, or perhaps because, of all my gym work (not stretching enough! ) and my age (probably more pertinent) I need Rachel's ministering hands to get me moving again. And without fail each time she performs miracles. Couldn't get through the month without her.

Rachel treated me recently for a very painful back that was giving me sleepless nights. She also has worked on my horse to loosen up her neck and shoulders. After one session the tightness was significantly relieved from both of us. I rode out 2 days later and my horse moved with a much freer neck and was very relaxed through her body. I too had a lighter feel to my back and neck with all the tension I was holding had gone. Excellent results thank you Rachel.

I have used Rachel Stokes Sports massage service on numerous accasions and can truthfully say the service she provideds is nothing short of excellent. I have used other massage services in the past but did not find them suitable for my need. As a tradesmen my physical wellbeing is important to me and, with Rachel's help and advice, I can manage the physical demands which I encounter on a daily basis. I would highly recommend this service to anybody and have personnaly found it hugely benificial. Moreover, Rachel is a friendly, welcoming and highly proffessional.

Sports massage, concentrating on different areas of my back and neck mainly. Rachel finds muscles I didn't know existed and works on them to reduce tension and help improve my posture. My only ask would be for her to start accepting payment electronically rather than via cheques, as this would make it easier for me to pay than remembering to dig out a chequebook. However her massages are extremely high quality in a relaxing environment.
Response : Thanks for your review Andy. I do already accept payment by BACS and now have just set up card payments (however a small fee will be charged for this facility).

Rachel is a very skilled masseur. Her massage therapy is very thorough. She always makes me feel very welcome. Her therapy room is always warm and cosy, with heated massage bed and warm towels. Her therapy has helped me to cope with my back problems. I have had many massages in my life, and Rachel's been the best. 10 ot of 10 for me.

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. My back is much better after having visited Rachel on three occasions. I do still need to attend as the pain returns after a couple of weeks, but there is no doubt that I feel less pain.

Great results seen, for both myself an advanced event rider and my event horses.

A combination of running, gym and a sedentary job had built up into a set of uncomfortable muscular symptoms. In particular my back felt like it was set in concrete and I had a long-standing pain in my upper-leg, not to mention the average aches and pains one gets after a given week's exercise. It was time to get a proper sports massage! Rachel is friendly and warm, easy to get along with and generally sets you at ease very quickly. Her treatment room is light and clean, the massage table is very comfortable, and there's always relaxing classical on in the background. The treatments have been excellent too. Rachel clearly knows her subject well and can probably tell you what's wrong with you better than yourself just by looking at your posture and a brief examination. For example, I was complaining of pain in my hamstrings, but it quickly transpired it wasn't actually the root of the problem. So I was impressed how she would examine the muscles by touch and by certain movements to find the true problem.I wouldn't say sports massages are relaxing per se, by their very nature they are manipulating troublesome muscles. But there is a post-session release for want of a better expression, and of course over the next few days the benefits continue to show.I'd recommend Rachel to anyone who partakes in regular exercise and/or experiences muscular pain. In this type of field you want someone with experience and professionalism, and above all someone who's effective, which is what you get here.Moreexpand_more

I have suffered protracted back problems that are work related for some time now. Rachel's approach is is extremely thorough whilst being open and friendly and based on an in depth working knowledge of muscle problems. I have felt better since attending and would thoroughly recommend her to anyone.

I've just started seeing Rachel for regular massages, partly as a runner but also for general wellbeing. She quickly found that my neck / shoulders seem to carry most of my tension whilst the back and legs are less of a problem. She quickly showed me how to stretch and strengthen the muscles causing problems and hopefully given time, the problems will disappear. Most massages I have had in the past, have concentrated on my back/legs so it was refreshing to have a different approach, and one which I believe will be successful.
