Pure Art BJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Portsmouth Hampshire UK, We are a Member club of the UKBJJA. Classes are held every Monday No-Gi 7. 30pm-9pm, Tuesday Gi 7. 30-9pm, Thursday No-Gi 8-9pm and Friday Gi 7. 30pm-9pm. We have spare Gi jackets for new people to borrow.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is considered as one of the most effective martial arts in the world and is a component art of MMA Mixed Martial Arts.

It uses science, physics and leverage to allow a smaller person to physically overcome a larger person by using technique and the persons energy against them rather than strength.

It looks similar to Judo and wrestling and has a heavy ground fighting focus using throws, takedowns, pins, chokes and joint lock submissions in order to control and subdue an opponent.  

Due to its reliance on technique over strength it is ideal for people of shapes, sizes and gender and great for self defence.

Our Portsmouth martial arts classes are always beginner friendly and welcoming and we practise the art in its whole from competition to self defence. The focus is always on building technical ability and paying strong attention to the small details of leverage, science and physics.

Lessons teach the entire art of BJJ as a whole including self defence and sports competition and feature a wide variety of solid tested ground techniques, standing techniques and takedowns / throws.
