About Prestwood Pet Crematorium

Key Services :

Prestwood Pet Crematorium is situated in beautiful countryside just outside Stourbridge in the West Midlands. We offer a dignified totally individual cremation service for peoples pets in the West Midlands and surrounding areas.

The crematorium was setup in 1997 by Derek and Susie Lawrence after they lost one of their own pets and read a story in the newspaper about someone being prosecuted for dumping the bodies of deceased pets. Horrified that this could happen they decided to setup the crematorium and from the start have been members of the APPCC adhering to their strict codes of conduct.

We understand that losing your pet is a very emotional time after all of the years that they have been in your life and every pet that comes to us is treated with dignity and respect.

You may wish to speak to us before you actually need our services as trying to deal with everything at the time of losing your pet can be very traumatic. We can discuss your requirements and you can ask any questions you may have.

We offer a totally individual cremation service for your pet and guarantee that it is only and all of your pets ashes that are returned to you. We offer a wide range of casket options and you can either bring your pet to us or we can collect them from your house or veterinary practice if required. You can also attend the cremation of your pet if you wish and take a stroll around our garden of remembrance or a picturesque walk along the canal nearby with the river stour flowing next to it.

Whatever you decide we guarantee a warm, friendly and no pressure welcome.

We have been members of the APPCC (Association of Private Pet Cemetaries and Crematoria) since we opened in 1997.

We lost our beloved Bailey after a short illness. Prestwood were so caring, understanding and professional. We viewed Bailey the day after his passing in the chapel if rest. He was at rest in a pleasant relaxing atmosphere. This helped us enormously as did the genuine concern and care shown by all. Bailey had dignity and personal care that went above and beyond. His ashes were well presented with a card of condolence and paw print in a very stylish bag. This is now a memory box.

We lost our beautiful Dalmatian Poppy on 6th August 2024. She passed away at home. She was 13. We took her to Prestwood. All the staff were just totally amazing and treated Poppy with the utmost dignity and compassion. We were allowed to go and see her in their Chapel of Rest and they had laid flowers over her and wrapped her in a beautiful blanket. They brought both myself and my husband great comfort during a very sad time. We would recommend Prestwood to anyone. Jane and Chris Evans.

I lost my cat Aston at the vets, Prestwood collected him, I was then allowed to see him again in the Chapel of Rest to say Goodbye. Aston was treated with the dignity he deserved. I made numerous calls to Prestwood and on every occasion they were compassionate and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend Prestwood Pet Crematorium to look after your beloved pets.

We sadly had to have our dog Roxy put to sleep last Saturday 28 September, it was the hardest decision we have ever had to make as Roxy was our world, we used dignipets vets who took Roxy to Prestwood pet crematorium after she was put to sleep, Prestwood cremated Roxy an hour after she was committed to there care which gave us extra piece of mind, we picked Roxy’s ashes up today Wednesday 2 October and we were thankful that she was cremated there in such beautiful surroundings it’s such a lovely place run by such kind hearted people, everyone we spoke to at Prestwood either by phone or in person were so kind and considerate to us at this terrible time in our life, Roxy is now back home with us which is making our grieving so much easier, thank you everyone at Prestwood for the care you showed to Roxy and ourselves.

We wanted the send off for Ruby she deserved, with respect, dignity and love and that what Prestwood helped us to provide. Heartfelt thank you from Ruby’s family xxx.

We sadly lost our beautiful boy Ollie on Sunday after rescuing him 8 years ago. I can't speak highly enough about this place. The whole team we dealt with were really lovely and treated our boy with such dignity. We got our boy back today with a lovely paw print, hair clipping and I ended up getting a necklace with some of our boys ashes in. Honestly can't thank you all enough for looking after us and especially our lovely boy. 5 star plus x.

Our beloved Crosby passed away and to say I was devastated, is an understatement. But I did not have to worry about his final journey. He was treated with affection and dignity and we were informed throughout, the little touches meant so much, name in calligraphy and he was treated with care. We purchased extra things the key rings, ashes in necklace and the slate with his name, all are superb. Highly recommend Prestwood crem for a professional service.

We lost our beloved dog on Monday, they were very kind and considerate when we took him there straight from the vets… but when we collected him this morning I’m sorry to say but we were very disappointed. We were greeted at the door (bearing in mind we had an appointment and it was booked in our name etc) with “have you come to collect? As if he was a bag of shopping. We left his blanket with him which we were taking back with us today. Which they didn’t bring out straight away but brought him out in his casket in a gift bag, really didn’t like that. Why was he not brought out on his blanket, and us greeted with our names. Just felt very impersonable. I hope you read this and don’t treat another pet parent like this.
Response : I’m very sorry you were disappointed when you came to collect your pet’s ashes. Following your feedback, we are going to change how we greet people and the phrase we use when they arrive, unfortunately despite usually knowing who we are expecting, we can’t greet people by name anymore, which is something we always used to do. People don’t always arrive at their appointment time, some arrive early, some late. On more than one occasion we have greeted people by name, said the wrong name due to people being late/early, which has caused upset. We have also had occasions where we have greeted people by name, and used their pets name which they have said “yes” to. When we have taken the pet through to the meeting room, we have then discovered that it isn’t the correct pet, as they didn’t hear us correctly when they arrived. This also caused upset. These situations have meant that we must be very careful what we say when we greet people and has required us to move to the current style of greeting, where we ask questions first to establish who we are talking to before we offer any information ourselves. We are aware that this is less personal than greeting pet parents by name, however the situations above have meant that we had to change how we phrase our greeting. When returning blankets to owners there are a few reasons why we had to make the decision not to place caskets into/onto blankets generally. We’ve had to tailor our casket handover procedure so that it works for lots of different scenarios, as multiple different procedures can lead to confusion. Most of the time we don’t have a blanket to return with the casket. If we do have a blanket to return it may not be clean, we can’t wash blankets because this removes the smell of the pet. We often return more than one item and it is difficult to keep multiple items together in a blanket without losing or dropping something. This meant we had to adopt a bagged solution to keep everything safely together which is a procedure common to all pet crematoriums I’m aware of. However, we are always happy to hear any special requests and if any pet parents wanted us to wrap their pet’s casket in their blanket for handing over and it is possible for us to do that, we certainly would do that for them.I’d like to thank you for taking the time to write this review, feedback is important to us, we welcome it, good or not so good. It enables us to examine our processes and procedures to try and constantly improve them.Moreexpand_more

My bunny dory passed away on the 7th March when I brought her to prestwood care I could sit with her before I had to say goodbye. Thank you all so much. I was reassured she was going to be treated with respect while she was in the care of prestwood. I had the memory bear and its perfect knowing I'll always have her with me.

Prestwood was recommended to us by Dignipets after we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have our beautiful greyhound Fred put to sleep. The staff were lovely, caring and considerate. The crematorium is set in beautiful countryside and when we fetched Freds ashes it was very peaceful and the little added touches were very thoughtful. Thank you for making Freds final journey peaceful and for caring.

My beloved dog, Martha, was entrusted to Prestwood Pet Crematorium's care recently after very sadly being given sleep. After just a few days I received a phone call to say that she was ready to collect. My car broke down on the way to fetch my girl's ashes and Prestwood Pet Crematorium couldn't have been more kind and obliging; I managed to get Martha back that same day. The scatter tube is beautiful and it's obvious from the little added extras that Martha's been treated with the dignity that she deserved. I can't thank Prestwood enough for everything, they've helped make a very sad time that little bit easier.

We used prestwood recently when I had to have one of my fur babies put to rest. Prestwood were fantastic and allowed us the time to grieve and be with our girl until we were ready to leave. The day we went was also the day of my grandads funeral so it was already highly emotional. Thank you to the staff for your genuinity and compassion. The experience although heartbreaking was positive.
