About PhotoValet

PhotoValet provides restoration, retouching and enhancement of family photos - returning photos to their original state (or better). The operation is controlled from Kensington, London.

A small network of experienced photographers working in their own homes is able to keep overheads low and provide a speedy service. The customer sends photo(s) (by email or snailmail) and PhotoValet provides a quotation. With the quotation accepted, PhotoValet does the work, and sends a proof by email. Payment is made only once the proof is accepted. 35mm slides can also be scanned and restored.

Photo restoration applied to old family photos can return them to their original glory. They will become clearer, can be enlarged and then kept for future generations without the risk of further deterioration.

Photo enhancement can remove flaws in photos eg hiding skin blemishes in a portrait; removing annoying items in the background; improving colours and lighting; or entirely transforming a photo using various artistic effects.

The process of sending proofs to the customer for approval before payment means that a very high quality product is ensured.

PhotoValet provides services to family photographers and genealogists.

Genealogists organising family records can benefit a lot from restoring the family photos as part of the overall project.

A popular use of photo enhancement is to improve photos taken by friends and family at a wedding. These photos often have too much detail or the lighting may not be right (perhaps the flashgun wasn't very strong). Photo enhancement make these photos much more suitable for inclusion in the wedding album.

Holiday photos can often be enhanced to provide a better record of a wonderful holiday.

I originally sent John a scanned copy of a photo to get an idea on cost. To say the least it was in poor state, folds, creases, bits missing. He quoted me a price subject to seeing the photo in the flesh. His original estimate held once he saw the picture. The service was very quick we had a few conversation about the missing bits and he sent a proof within a day. It was then that I noticed that our conversation about missing bits was not entirely true, John quickly put them right and we had the final result which was fantastic. As I have already said to John It was a pleasure doing business with him.

I had a whole water damaged album (and some other loose faded photos) restored by John. Very precious photos (some well over 100 years old) were beautifully restored with no money to pay until I was completely satisfied. John worked miracles on some of them which were almost unrecognisable. Very, very pleased. Thank you John.

John restored four very old and damaged black-and-white photos for me, and one 1970s colour shot. He took immense care to ensure the missing parts of the old photos were right, and checked that I was happy with these on a regular basis. I was amazed at the resulting restorations, they are so good, and clear. The colour photo looked resh and real. I'm thrilled with them all.

Great interactive service. Did an excellent job restoring black and white photo of Mount Everest taken in May 1945. John was a good communicator as to what he was doing and the result was excellent.

I am so impressed with the results of the photos that John from Photovalet restored for me. He advised on what could be expected from each restoration and the cost to allow me to decide whether to go ahead. The older photographs dated between 1914 - 1918 and were faded / marked and were very small prints. The results were outstanding. I couldn't believe how much detail and clarity was achieved from them. It truly brought them to life. The other photographs dated from the 1950's and were mainly marked and scratched and the prints were in very poor condition. So, it was a case of removing the marks and the scratches and so having a copy of these photos that would last into the future which I now have. John's service was very quick and he kept me informed along the way emailing draft proofs to look at with any comments before finalising the work. I am really delighted with the work and will definitely use photovalet if I have more of this work to be done again.Moreexpand_more

Having come by a lovely but very damaged photo of my late mother - I came across this company by chance - and I'm so glad I did! Wonderful quality of work in restoring - John was very obliging and more importantly - wants his customer to be pleased! Which I certainly am. I'm so pleased- Thank you John.

Very impressed. Photovalet have managed to take a 55 year old faded photo and restore it back to it's former glory. As this is the only remaining photo of our family member it's great to have restored. The level of colouration in the restored photo has to be seen to be believed and we are very grateful to John and his staff for their excellent work - highly recommended!

Found PhotoValet on Google and consider myself very fortunate to have done so. John is great to work with and an excellent communicator. He has resorted two pictures for me just recently. The first, a seriously damaged Tintype of my father and his brother sitting on a motorcycle, dating from around 1924. The work is exceptional and the attention to detail, first class. The second is a torn photograph of my grandparents, with my auntie and uncle as very small children, dating from pre 1918. Again the work is amazing. The damage has been wonderfully corrected and the finished product is, for my sister and myself, a work of art.

A photo of my Great-Great-Grandfather, probably mid-1800s, in very bad condition, restored so we can now see what he looked like! Excellent service, and so pleased to be able to do it electronically so I never had to trust this one remaining photo to any outside mail delivery service. Always a fast and reassuring answer to any of my queries. The personal touch.

I found PhotoValet through a Google search. My partner had just one precious photo of her Grandad, who was killed in the Spanish Civil War. John did a superb job in restoring a ripped and mouldy photo to its former glory. We are very happy and thoroughly recommend the company!

John communicates well by email, making sure you are happy with the work. I am delighted with the two photos and would definitely use Photovalet again.

PhotoValet recently restored a very old picture of my Mother and Father following her passing away. The quality of work produced by them was fantastic and they even managed to correct my Father's 'lazy eye' in the photograph which made the final photograph so much better. The work was of high quality and was completed in such a short space of time that me and my wife where suitably impressed. I cannot recommend Photovalets work highly enough. - Paul R leech.

John's work on the large 1940 photograph was exceptional. The photograph was found rolled up at the bottom of a box, and I only partially unrolled it before discovering cracks and creases. John kept in contact through the process and he has managed to restore the photograph and you now cannot see the previous damage. I will definitely use John again.

John is very professional and helpful. His advice is sound and the transformation of several quite poor black and white pictures into clear and delightful images is impressive. I will definitely come back with further challenges for his skills.

Without hesitation - use this service! John is accommodating, friendly, honest and provides a fast and efficient service. I first contacted PhotoValet late Tuesday evening and by the Friday my order was complete, this included numerous email correspondence with me asking for adjustments and them being fulfilled without quibble. The itinerary for his service laid out on the website really is that straightforward…upload your photo, explain what you want - he lets you know what can be done and how much - you agree, he does the job and sends you a proof - if alls good, agree and pay - he sends you a file with your photo - Job done! Thank you John, I will for sure be using your service agian.

2nd time using John's restoration services and he has not failed to deliver! I cannot put into words how fantastic the restorations are and what great value for money, especially with the really tricky photos. Needed them quickly for my father's birthday and his promptness and quality astound me every time. Thank you so much!
