Having retired a couple of years ago, I felt it necessary to introduce a regular level of exercise, so I could continue with my sporting and leisure activities. I met Phil just over six months ago and he has been helping me develop my fitness in the form of improving balance, flexibility stamina upper and lower body strength and much more. Phil has an extensive knowledge with the ability to assess exactly what you need to improve without over, stretching or stressing yourself. Every session that one has with Phil has a wide variety of exercise, some familiar and new and to say, never dull with plenty of amusing conversation , always interesting. I feel that as time goes on my overall strength and fitness is improving instead of declining, whether it’s one session a week or occasionally two , morning noon or evening. Phil is an extremely knowledgeable , patient and confident instructor , I cannot recommend him more highly.
I have been working with Phil since April 2022 and in this time I have improved myself physically and mentally with a range of physical exercises. As a person with disabilities Phil has really ensured everything I do is both safe and challenging. I have lost a considerable amount of weight as well as being able to achieve things I never thought I could. If you are looking for someone who shows compassion whilst keeping you on track Phil is your man. I am eternally grateful for what he has taught me and helped me achieve and I am looking forward to continuing my journey with him.
During the Covid lockdown I built a gym in my garden to help me reignite my love of exercise that I had lost over the years. I started to buy more and more equipment to fill the gym but then quickly realised that I had ‘all the gear and no idea’ on how to use it. I started searching for personal trainers who would come out to my house and hopefully show me how to put it to good use so I could enjoy my workouts again. I found Phil’s page and read the positive reviews that his clients had left and decided to reach out. Phil was very approachable and knowledgable from the first meeting and I knew he was exactly what I needed. He taught me a lot about the importance of movement, my posture and how to work different muscles to get the best out of a workout. He helped me build a workout routine that I really enjoy, and to be honest, involves very little of the gym equipment I bought! He was incredibly supportive, motivating and always had a kind word to say if I was struggling. I worked with Phil whilst I was training for the London Marathon last October. His help was invaluable. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind and dynamic in his approach. He listens to you, understands your strengths and weaknesses and then gives you his plan. I was struggling to find the motivation to train for the marathon as well as contending with a knee injury that was hindering my running. He not only helped me work through my injury, focusing on exercises to strengthen my knee in very little time before race day, but gave me so much motivation and confidence to use in my training. His help undoubtedly had an immense impact on helping me make it round the full 26. 2 miles! I cannot recommend him enough.
After unintentionally losing a significant amount of weightloss, I was experience a sense of disconnected fromy my body. My osteopath suggested finding a personal trainer to re-engage and heal the damage I was doing to both my upper lumbar and lower back. I met with Phil and I knew his methodology and approach would be amazing for this next stage of my journey. I am not an 'easy' client. I mean, I do the work and I want to be there but…What can I say? At any given moment, I have a hard time making the necessary time to dedicate to myself and what I need. But somehow, regardless of what is going on in my head or on the ground, my work with Phil - and I am talking almost Feldenkrais, seemingly childlike movement at times (because it is in the smallest adaption we often see the greatest change, right? ). But Phil encourages me, pushes my body to better itself, and treats me with respect and compassion. I train with Phil for an hour a week most weeks and I carve out time during the week to incorporate techniques and exercises into my daily life. I have been seeing Phil weekly for the last 8 months and I have no hesitation in providing my recommendation. I trust him and that is the highest praise I could give anyone. I have found Phil to be genuinely knowledgeable, thoughtful and dynamic in his approach toward my health and fitness. He maintains a high professional standard whilst still being personable and understanding. His goals for me have always been achievable based upon an informed and personalised assessment. He is able to adapt his strategy quickly depending on my mood and mental state which is important to me as my ability and willingness to engage can fluctuate from time to time. Through Phil’s constant reminders I am finally starting to realise that paying even the smallest amount of attention to my health and fitness is better than nothing at all. In the past I struggled to maintain a healthy weight. A recent test put me as borderline diabetic; a wake-up call to make long-lasting change. I decided on personalised support for health and fitness. Phil Munro was recommended and it’s been transformative. Ten weeks on, I have a structured daily exercise regime which I miss it if I don’t do it. Phil is characterised by attention to detail. He takes time to explain each exercise, what it is doing to your muscles, what you are trying to achieve. He reviews your progress, how you can improve, makes small changes that make a difference. We meet online by Zoom weekly and it’s worked really well. He can see what I am doing and I can see his demonstrations. I can send a video to check progress. I make a note of his advice, ideas to keep me motivated. Each week, Phil refines what I am doing, adding in changes for strength and fitness. It is personalised support anchored in his professional knowledge and skills. After ten weeks, I am 18 pounds lighter, better balanced, walk taller and sit well. I have been working with Phil for the last 11 weeks. On our first meeting, I explained that I had never managed to reach any weightloss goals through lack of motivation and discipline. Since that time, Phil has shown great communication and encouragement, making me look forward to the each session. He arrives at my home weekly, checks in to see how the week has gone and then we get to it. During the sessions, we train hard (with a little moaning from myself) but also, I laugh and enjoy the exercise - that’s something I never thought I’d say! Phil makes exercising fun and each session is building on the last, helping to progress my weightloss and my own discipline towards the exercise I do and the foods that I’m eating. I and others around me are noticing the change, not only in my body and the clothes that I am wearing but in my attitude towards exercise too. Phil came and did an intro meeting with hubby and I and he made me feel very much at ease. Having previously had PT's who were gym based I found Phil's approach like a breath of fresh air. Having Hypermobility in my family I had always found that the previous PT's had not taken this into account, therefore I was over stretching, which in turn was not helping me achieve the correct posture when exercising. Phil was also very compassionate when I suffered with vertigo which could come on overnight. His approach is very professional and understanding and you will get as much out of your sessions as to that which you put in. HIs rates are the average I would expect for someone of his abilities and would certainly have him back should my circumstances change in the future. A great guy, with great understanding of how all woman tick in different ways and uses that knowledge to adjust your training regime to suit you. Great all round food advice and very supportive. Highly recommended.
I've been training with Phil an hour a week for the last 8 months and have made great progress. After several decades of deskwork and under exercise and having had a total knee replacement a couple of years ago, I'm not aiming to run a marathon but to get better mobility and flexibility. It's working. Phil is knowledgable and very observant. He quickly notices where you need to change your posture, movement, balance or awareness. Each session he comes up with some new exercises to add to previous ones, so the routine is always varied, interesting and enjoyable. Highly recommended.
I'd highly recommend Phil as a personal coach if you are looking to lose some weight. Phil helped me to reach my target weight loss within the timescales I wanted to do it in. He is very friendly and patiently explains every exercise routine and makes sure I understood it fully. He makes training quite an enjoyable experience. He is a fantastic coach and trainer to have by your side to reach your weight loss goals.

I was advised by my Physio to go to a Personal Trainer after I ruptured my ACL - which was a result of a decision to kick start my fitness regime and took up hockey after not having played since school…my initial goal was obviously to get my knee strong and stable so I could get on with day to day life and ensure my annual skiing holiday was still a realistic possibility. I also wanted to lose some weight and get fitter which was my original goal for taking up hockey and getting back into swimming with my son! Phil instilled confidence from the initial assessment that my training would be tailored to my immediate and long term needs, be varied to keep my interest and motivation going, be flexible to fit into my changeable work routine and includes diet and nutritional advice which I knew was probably a key issue with my goal to lose some weight. I lost 5kg in the first 8 weeks, over 3cm round my waist, reduction of hips, tummy and chest, friends said I looked healthier in my face as well and clothes fitted so much better. Inspired by the early progress and more healthy eating regime I have managed to maintain these improvements whilst not feeling like I am at a boot camp, coupled with Phil watching out for signs of slipping back into old habits with gentle reminders and positivity it's making a huge difference. Phil's focus on posture and doing the exercises and training the right way, I feel absolutely safe that I can achieve what is being asked of me at each session. My knee injury is improving, and I have recently been able to swim breaststroke without pain for the first time in nearly 8 months. I have added a weekly yoga class to my routine and I am happy to spend time on my previously unused cross trainer as this is now part of a wider more sustainable and enjoyable investment in my health, happiness and future! Phil has been a breath of fresh with his approach to fitness. His extremely patient, friendly and professional, and makes your feel at ease. He works with you to help you to achieve your goals. Providing not just his expertise in maximising your workout sessions that is tailored for you, which is varied, so you will never get bored. But looks at your diet, and makes helpful suggestions, that can fit in to your daily life style. I was completely unfit when I contacted Phil as I spend all my time working sitting at a desk. I was out of breath just doing the most simplest of tasks. By spending two hours per week, my physical fitness, stamina and mental health has improved enormously. I look forward to my workouts with Phil and run on the other days. Each week I feel the improvements and seeing the change in my physical appearance. When I started working with Phil my primary goal was to be more toned. I didn't expect the amount of health benefits I would get with working with him just once a week. My diet (which still resembled that of a student) has been improved thanks to his advice on food groups and portions and not only do I feel fitter and more toned I have a greater understanding of how and why to exercise as I do. I have a great laugh with Phil and always found him firm but fair when you need to work a little harder. Thanks to him I have also made huge improvements with my running, this year completing my first marathon in under 4 hours.
I have never liked going to the gym however, I wanted to loose weight and get fitter. I wasn’t sure what to do, then I came across Phil. I contacted him and he was very professional and happy to get started but was never pushy. I spoke with him and advised that id had a baby 4 months prior and I wasn’t sure what to expect and almost felt nervous however when I met Phil (he came to my home) he made me feel at ease and excited to start training with him. He was a very down to earth person and never made the training sessions rigid. He was fun but to the point and he gives you the push you need to train your mind and body in helping you loose those extra pounds. I trained with Phil for 8 weeks and lost a lot of inches around the waist, hips and tummy and also I could see the pounds coming off! I dropped two jean sizes, I was a size 16 and am now a size 12 and I couldn’t be happier. If I had to recommend anyone, it’d certainly be Phil.
I signed up for a 6week course with Phil seeing him twice per week in prep for a holiday and to feel a bit stronger, by the end of it I had lost 9lbs and 4 3/4 inches all over as well as eliminating my back pain and feeling healthier and strong. His patience and encouragement kept me going, as someone who tends to struggle to maintain a exercise regime his encouragement and positivity kept me focused! My regime was totally tailored for me, He even gave me tips on my diet and helped me set realistic goals. I have signed up for another 10 weeks to get me through the summer and continue with my success! Can't recommend him enough! Thanks Phil!
As I was rapidly approaching the ripe, old age of 50 I decided it was time to take action! Having had a summer of all inclusive holidays (lots of eating and drinking! ) it was time to call in a specialist! Phil has been great! He has encouraged me every step of the way on my journey back to some kind of fitness. He has encouraged both myself and my daughter to make changes in our diet that has helped us maintain a healthy weight loss over the last 3 months. I have also lost 4 inches overall and my daughter 6 inches! Phils training sessions are fun but he pushes us when we need that little bit of extra encouragement. I have gone from doing no exercise at all to running twice a week, boxfit and an exercise class each week!If you are looking for someone to give you that push to motivate yourself Phil is your man!
