I bought a 9-bird penthouse coop from Perthshire Poutry in 2018. I asked to have a fixed stand and ladder built as well. I have been exceptionally pleased with this coop. The stand brings the floor to mid thigh level and minimises stooping. It is spacious. And extremely strong. If necessary, I can easily climb inside for thorough cleaning. And someone else could fit in beside me. Eight is the maximum number of hens I have had in there, and, as they were all ex-batts, (mostly weighing less than 2 Kg) there would have been plenty of room for a few more without in anyway overcrowding. The coop has survived two years almost completely unscathed. It does not leak. It is not entirely draft proof - particularly around the back door. In winter, I stuff the crack with newspaper. In summer, extra ventilation is fine. I keep mine in a secure, roofed pen from another company, and so I am not terribly concerned about security from predators but, if your coop is outside, it would be worth adding a second catch to the front door, in case something with paws scrabbles at the turn-button and also worth while adding a sturdy catch to the heavy nest box lid in case a sharp nose manages it lift it. In any case, you need to add a method of holding up the nest box lid safely when you are cleaning or collecting eggs; it is rather heavy if it lands on your head!Cleaning is a doddle; with full reach into the house and nest box, a shovel with a short handle will reach any deposit on a daily basis. I have a sheet of plastic on the floor of the main house, and strong plastic liners meant for kitchen drawers (IKEA) cut to fit in the nest boxes and textured side up as additional grips on the ladder. I keep a little sprinkling of diatomaceous earth under the plastic liners and in the perch sockets and I have had no trouble at all with red mite. Full clean outs are dependent on good drying days. I spray down walls floor, roof and crevices with a poultry disinfectant, scrub if necessary, leave to work and then rinse with a hose. A plastic dustpan scoops out the majority of the water, an old towel takes the last, and then the whole house needs as long to thoroughly dry as possible. Negative points? Very, very few. The ladder could be another section longer. This would make the slope easier for my oldest hen (6, dodgy hip) to negotiate. It might help large and heavy breeds too. The youngsters have no difficulty. Thank you for your excellent coop - and I am only sorry that I have taken so long to add a review.Moreexpand_more

I have recently purchased a 15 bird pent roof coop from Perthshire poultry. The fully assembled coop arrived just one week after placing my order. It is beautifully made, with top quality wood making it extremely sturdy. It is so easy to use, and so easy to clean out, with its simple shape and large opening door. It is a good size for the recommended number of chickens. It is a fantastic buy when compared to the flimsy, flat packed imported chicken houses so readily available on the internet.

We purchased the XL Chicken Coop as well as the Chicken Guard Automatic door. The quality is excellent and the automatic door is brilliant - no more waiting to go down after dark to lock them in! The customer service was very good and the coop was delivered when promised. The craftsmanship is worth every penny and I would not hesitate to go back to Perthshire Poultry if we need to buy another chicken house in the future.

We bought a large coop and it was delivered within a week, beautifully made and exactly as described. Really nice quality compared to others in the same price bracket and a really efficient friendly service - we would highly recommend.

I highly recommend Perthshire Poultry as their service is first-rate in all respects. Their communication (speed and content), willingness to accommodate and assist with our requirements, ease of ordering, speed with which they carried out the work and the quality of the workmanship really represents value for money. A very happy customer - and chickens.

Looking for a good quality, robust and attractive hen coop and run, we had searched throughout the UK, smallholder events and every web site we could find and nothing really stood out until we found Perthshire Poultry, ironically just a few miles away. We visited Mark Irvine's workshop and looked at some coops he was building and knew right away it was exactly what we had been looking for. The quality is 1st class, it is built from scratch with a range of options. Mark is friendly and knowledgable and we sorted out the specification we wanted very easily. We ordered ours the following day, With various additions (longer run with apex roof, manual and sensor door, window, cleaning drawer) Mark gave us a fixed quote, communicated by regular e-mail, built it in a week @ delivered it personally on a Saturday morning. The whole experience was positive and we are happy to recommend Perthshire Poultry. There are cheaper options out there and some imported (Chinese? ) flat packs that appear good value but in our opinion the cliche "you get what you pay for" is true.
