Pegges Almshouse is a holiday cottage situated in the heart of Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Dales, right on the edge of the Peak District.
Ashbourne is the home of the famous Royal Shrovetide street football match, held every year on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.
Pegges Almshouse is a Grade 2 star listed property, built in 1669.
The cottage offers unique self catering accommodation comprising kitchen, dining area, bathroom with walk in shower, 2 bedrooms, lounge and boasts a wealth of original features including beamed ceilings, crook timbers and stone walls.
Situated in the Georgian Quarter of Ashbourne on Church Street, which is considered to be the finest Georgian street in Derbyshire and is at the centre of a conservation area.
Originally built at the bequest of Christopher Pegge in his last will and testament.
The Almshouses were built to house local widows and there were originally 6 dwellings.
These have now been converted to 3 separate cottages.
The Almshouses form part of the Ashbourne Heritage walk and are of huge historical importance to the town.
Ashbourne is an ideal base for Dovedale, Alton Towers, Tissington Trail, Carsington Water, Chatsworth House, Matlock, Buxton, Derby.
Pegges Almshouse Holiday Cottage is owned and managed by Maria and Ian Macdonald.
We have, over the years, stayed in many cottages around the UK, sometimes delighted, sometimes not! We wanted to offer something unique and have been searching for the right property for some time.
The former Almshouse became available and we have renovated to a high specification, whilst retaining as much of the original character as possible.
We offer a pick up and drop off service from the local train station, bus station and airport if required.
