Paul Regan is a total one off as a counsellor - he's been round a few sharp corners himself and in the course of seeing him over a number of sessions has forced me to look harder at myself than I ever thought possible. For the first time in my life I'm peeling back the layers to get to the core truths of who I am - and as uncomfortable as that is Paul's guidance, patience and above all understanding has allowed me a level of self honesty that I never thought I would even get near. The journey isn't over for me yet, but I'm on the right path - and I'll be using this service again as and when I feel I need it. An outstanding professional, and an inspiring person to boot means that you are always in safe hands - even if that means looking at yourself and your life in a brutally raw way. If you feel scared or nervous of seeing a counsellor Paul Regan is the perfect antidote - don't waste your time with anyone else, pick up the phone and book him now. You won't regret it.

I was introduced to Paul just over a year ago when my life was at a very low ebb and my drinking was out of control and getting me into trouble with both my family and the police. Paul helped me to get sober and built up my self esteem over a number of weeks. I have now been sober for a year and am back at college and doing voluntary work. My children tell me that they have their mum back. I can't thank Paul enough.

I saw an article in the paper for a service run by Paul Regan, for treatment of all types of addiction. At the time I was a crack and heroin addict and had had major problems with substance abuse for around 15 years. I visited Paul at his centre and he said he could help me, I was desperate and had tried many other methods, was receiving counselling from NHS drug services, but could not get out of this negative destructive cycle, that was slowly killing me. I saw Paul on a weekly basis for a while, then was accepted on a twelve week program with him. He, and his staff, really made a change to my way of thinking. I got clean from all drugs for the first time outside of an institution. It was a day care program, so I was still living in the community, and managed to stop using, then I was left with me and had to learn how to cope with life without drugs, something I had never really experienced. Paul showed me methods of dealing with this. We worked together one to one and in a group environment, and it has really changed my life. It was by no means easy, but I learnt so much and even enjoyed most of my time there, it gave me routine and helped me with confidence and communication. I had massive low self esteem and a twisted perception of myself and other people. I am now 6 months clean of all drugs including alcohol, in full time work, have an amazing relationship with my family and i'm enjoying life. Its not always rosy but I can face up to everyday problems instead of running away or trying to escape with drugs. Paul has also provided me with aftercare, and we still speak regularly, it gives me pleasure writing this stuff because I am so grateful to him and would highly recommend his service to anyone with addiction problems.Moreexpand_more

I was forwarded by my employer to see Paul Regan when i hit a all time low in my life. After having several sessions with Paul he enabled me to get peace of mind and happiness back in my life for the first time in many years. Thanks to paul i am able to live my life to the max instead of living in the past with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I have never been so happy! Thanks Paul.

I have been a hospital doctor for ten years working in busy accident and emergency departments. In that role I have been fortunate to work with many health care professionals that deliver mental health services. I love my job, but like many others I work too many hours and often see events that are deeply upsetting. In striving to forge a successful career I have neglected time and effort spent on myself and recently came to the realisation that I was making many interpersonal and personal mistakes repetitively. I was also drinking too much and feeling increasingly unhappy. I struggled with depression for may years as a young man and never really felt I knew why this had happened and what I could do to prevent the "black dog" visiting me again. I have been having Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Paul for the last two months. He is not what you expect ( in a good way! ). He is a very grounded man and never needs to resort to "psychobabble". He is a man who has totally changed his life for the better using these techniques. He therefore approaches your problems with genuine compassion and understanding. He is also a highly intuitive practitioner. The power of his technique lies in his ability to rapidly and simply make you realise why you do certain things, so you can act differently in the future.I have studied all realms of psychological theory and spiritual practice to try and address recurring issues in my life that I felt were destructive. I honestly feel that my work with Paul has been more effective than anything else I have done before. This is the most important, practical and constructive thing I have done to become happy and content and leave behind wounds that we all inevitably pick up by just walking the mortal path.I would firmly recommend Paul to any person in need. I am also happy to recommend Paul to any Healthcare professional wishing to refer his/her patients for CBT services. CBT has been found to be effective in the following areas:1. Addiction2. Depression3. Obsessive compulsive disorder4. Post traumatic stress syndrome.Moreexpand_more

I was given Paul Regans’ number by the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) along with the numbers of all the other counsellors/therapists in my area. Facing up to having a drink problem was one thing, however actually doing something about it was a different matter, and despite the destructiveness and unhappiness my alcohol addiction was causing it was something that I felt I couldn’t change. To be brutally honest about it, I didn’t think that I wanted to change I just knew that I had to. My daily routines, lifestyle or to be precise my habit, became too familiar and with that I thought I felt safe and happy. Working with Paul provided me with the opportunity to really start looking at myself. His understanding and simplistic approach encouraged me to start recognising and understanding the “drivers” that were being allowed to antagonise and torment me. For anyone considering using CBT as a means for dealing with personal issues, I would suggest you ignore the stereo-typical portrayal of the therapist with the leather couch, telling you that they have the answers to your problems. What this really requires is for the individual to be able to open themselves right up, stare at themselves in the mirror and question everything that they do and think. In my personal experience that is exactly what happened, and I know with hindsight that I couldn’t have done it alone, because quite frankly I wouldn’t have known where to start.17th April 2009 is the date that I stopped using alcohol and approximately 22 sessions of CBT enabled me to harness sufficient tools to hopefully live a life without. It’s certainly not a quick fix, and it does require tremendous strength and commitment, but Pauls’ experience, frankness and support taught me that despite my belief that I couldn’t change, I clearly could. Furthermore, I was obviously ready to. .Moreexpand_more
