About Newtown Counselling

Newtown Counselling provides a range of counselling services to tackle specific issues such as abuse, addiction, anxiety, anger, body issues, bereavement, childhood issues, depression, eating disorders, relationship breakdowns, stress, suicidal thoughts and trauma.

Sophia has a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh. This focused on the Person Centred approach and Psychodynamic perspective. She is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and works within the BACP's Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

In addition to Sophia's private practice, she was also a counsellor at Wellspring, a leading centre for the provision of affordable high-quality psychotherapy and counselling, and a telephone counsellor for Trauma Counselling Line Scotland, which is a service provided by Health in Mind, a charity which promotes positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland.

Previously, Sophia was also a counsellor at The PF Counselling Service, a charity located in Morningside, and a call taker for ParentLine, Scotland’s National Children’s Charity helpline, providing advice for anyone caring for or concerned about a child.
