Choosing and meeting your surgeon.
Patients pick their own surgeon and keep the same named surgeon from the first appointment to the last check-up. You can meet them face to face, free of charge, before deciding anything. In Manchester the surgeons are Dr Khawaja Masood Munir (GMC 6122581), who leads the team there, and Dr Haider Gillani (GMC 8030796). In London they are Dr Zakar Rafiq (GMC 6164032), an Associate Member of the ISHRS, Dr Mahdi Alosert (GMC 6168297) and Dr Shuaib Mir (GMC 7567898). Dr Munir and Dr Mir are both experienced in beard transplants.
Together the five have carried out more than 6,500 hair transplants.
How the procedure works.
Your surgeon assesses your donor hair, plans the hairline and works out the number of grafts and the areas they will come from. Under local anaesthetic, the surgical team removes the grafts following that plan, your surgeon creates the tiny recipient openings that decide the angle and direction of each hair, and the team then sets the grafts in place. Your surgeon supervises throughout and is clinically responsible for the result. Most procedures are completed in one day, and you go home the same evening.
What patients come for.
The most common requests are rebuilding a receding hairline, filling the temples and thickening a thin crown. Hairlines are drawn to suit your age and to stay believable as you get older. The surgeons also restore beards and eyebrows, and treat women with thinning hair and patients with Afro-textured hair. Every procedure uses FUE, shaven or unshaven. If a transplant won't give you the result you want, or your hair loss needs to settle first, the surgeon will tell you and won't book you in.
