Why Getting Your Engine Tuning Done by a Professional is the Only Sensible Choice.
As a car owner, you may very well have seen advertisements for engine tuning online or at your local garage.
Usually offered as an add-on service, companies and individuals offer engine tuning to help your engine reach its peak levels of performance and improve its mpg.
However, as with most industries, you’ll get great, fully equipped, fully qualified professionals, but you’ll also get those who provide the service without the necessary knowledge and with substandard engine tuning equipment.
The problem is that not only can you end up Not Getting Value for money when you choose the wrong company for your engine tuning and ecu remapping, but you can also Actually do Some Real Damage to your car.
And here’s why….
It’s a Highly Specialised Skill.
Even if your engine tuning or ecu remapping is performed by a garage mechanic, it’s unlikely they’ll have the necessary IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) certification. If so, the person performing the work may not be suitably qualified and with a highly complex job like this, lasting engine damage can occur.
Regardless of whether someone is a qualified motor mechanic or not, unless specific training has been taken by that person in the discipline of engine management systems, the result could a poorly performing or at worst, an unusable vehicle.
Using the Right Equipment.
If you choose an unlicensed, unaccredited engine tuner, there’s a very good chance that they won’t be using genuine, high-end ecu remapping and engine tuning equipment.
That’s because the right equipment is expensive, but for good reason, as it massively cuts down on equipment-related issues and is supported by the world’s leading manufacturers.
Less reputable, unqualified operators will often buy cheaper, poor-quality cloned equipment from China which is not only unsupported, but they’ve also been known to damage ecus during the remapping process due to communication errors.
Facilities and Aftercare.
When you opt for an established and reputable specialist engine tuning professional, more often than not, you’ll get to visit their workshop, wait around and ask any questions you might have during the process.
This also means you get the peace of mind of knowing you have somewhere to return to if an issue arises at a later date.
And that the professional performing the ecu remapping or engine tuning has a reputation they want to maintain.
Choose the first person you find online without checking their setup and you will likely get the work done by a mobile engine tuner who works out of the back of their car. This means that you have no one to go to if you have a problem.
Burner (a. K. A. Disposable) mobile phones are often used by this kind of engine tuning operator due to the high levels of complaints they get, so the likelihood is you’ll never get to talk to them again.
Amateur's that use cloned equipment and substandard map files, don't care about their reputation either as they don’t have one. (does not apply to all mobile tuners, some are well equipped and trained, however, they are quite rare).

I was very apprehensive about a remap on my Porsche Macan but, considering the high price to swap for a more powerful car and after talking to Mike, I decided to go ahead with the remap. He was very patient to discuss my fears and concerns. Remap was completed within a few hours. Results are very good, particularly the increase pull in mid-range (40-70mph) which is excellent. The PDK gearbox doesn't need to change down to meet normal demands due to the increase torque, therefore I'm finding the engine/gearbox doesn't seem to work as hard as before (under normal conditions of course). The driving experience is even better when driving the car as a manual. The upgrade works seamlessly with no issues with the car's other features. I'd recommend Mike as a reputable and experienced guy who clearly knows his stuff. .

What witchcraft is this sir? I drove out of Mpg tuning and as soon as I got to the first junction in my 1. 9tdi, I knew that mike was Magic! Absolutely cock on service with a smile and full of helpful information. If you are thinking (should you) I can tell you, You should! Stage 1 has completely transformed the performance of my A3! I have lost count of how many cars Mike has remapped for me, but I know each car has been transformed. Well I have just picked up my GL63AMG from Mike having had a Fast Road Map. 620 BHP and 900 nm torque later this has to be the best I have ever had done. The 63 was a beast anyway but the remap has now put it into super car performance category. I am so happy I cannot stop grinning, not sure what I get next but this will take some beating. Mike recently remapped my Ford Transit TDCi camper van. I then went on a 270 mile trip and the difference was very noticeable with the bhp upped from 85 to 112. With only 100 miles of motorway, the remainder was quite hard driving up hill and down Dale in West Yorkshire and the Peak District which the van took in it's stride and was more relaxing to drive. I cannot currently comment on any fuel saving at the moment but due to the nature of the journey I doubt there will be much if any. Don't expect miracles as driving style plays a major part in fuel economy. Mike may not be the cheapest but you know he won't rip you off and scarper and only uses safe reliable software. He also provides a good cup of tea or coffee while you wait! I would certainly not hesitate to recommend Mike and MPG Tuning.

The work carried out by Mike was really professional and quick and I have achieved what I wanted… Which was to gain on the mpg, I own a vw t6, previously I was getting 26-27 mpg and now it's touching 33mpg, on the motorway and long journeys it gets up to 38-39 mpg. Overall I got what I wanted and Mike is a fantastic chap, easy to get on with and makes a great brew :D, thanks once again Mike!

Mike did a stage1 plus remap on a 118d I had which I was very happy with it made that car so much more responsive, so when I got a 330d there was only one place I wanted to re map it for me and that's MPG, talking it over with Mike I went for the Fast Road remap, the car was no slouch before but wow what a difference that remap made the power delivery became was instant and pulls like an absolute train, thoroughly recommend MPG and Mike for remaps.

Had my Ford Kuga 2. 0TDCi remapped with MPG Tuning just over two weeks and 500 miles ago now. I noticed immediately that the flat/sluggish spots had gone when changing up a gear at lower revs and also that there was more power at the higher end (caught me by surprise at a couple of roundabouts if I'm completely honest). I soon settled into where my foot should be with my new settings and am now confident that it's returning approximately 10% better fuel economy under normal driving conditions. The whole process took about an hour and a half, was well explained in a clean, hygienic and socially distanced environment. I highly recommend MPG Tuning. .

Recently had my VW T6 remapped by Mike but left it a few weeks before leaving review so I could get a good feel for overall results and I am very happy Pull through the gears is amazing and makes transition between 2nd and 3rd around town so much easier because of the extra torque and mpg is working out to just over 22% better than before the remap Overall excellent value for money, very friendly and knowledgable guy so highly recommended.
