I advised my parents to buy a 05 reg Renault Modus Automatic from this company…even though it was more expensive than most other cars in the country. They were local. Were sympathetic with my parents needs and understanding. We managed to get the price down from £2600 down to £2200. Parents paid and duly took ownership. All good…. Not quite…we were shocked to find 7 previous owners. But hey thats our fault for not asking. We did discover some panel damage and paintwork down one side of the car…that we didnt see before due to where the car was parked. Buy again. Hey its an 05 reg car. At least the HPi check I paid for showed the car clear. My dad drove the car for approx 3 weeks and then said to me that both him and my mum didnt like the ride of the car…and the steering was a bit quick for him. No worries Dad…take the car down to Motor City and see about swapping the car in for another…My 80 year old father rang me later with the company response…. Trade in of £1000 against a car of £4000+…. Seriously ?I was gobsmacked…. They had the car just over 3 weeks. Added about 300 miles on the clock. And were about to lose £1200 and have to spend a further £3000 ?My father who is a really chilled mild mannered guy was furious and told them to "stick it somewhere"I phoned up and was given…we will have to service it, pay VAT, readvertise it, Valet the car etc etc. Thanks Spencer…not really.My parents feel like they have a car worth not a lot and are stuck with a worthless car they dont enjoy driving…Big Thanks to Motor City…well done guys…you made a good sale there didnt you….Moreexpand_more
I did 10k miles in my first 5 months and the gearbox failed. They followed up on their life time warranty and fixed the problem by trying to fix the gearbox but couldn't, and then replacing the gearbox altogether. However, 20k miles later (in 15month), the gearbox has failed again. This time they are trying to tell me it is wear and tear due to a certain part of the gearbox. Upon further research with other mechanics, this does not come under wear and tear and it is a mechanical failure of the gearbox, but motorcity are refusing to fix the problem this time. So now I have to get a second opinion by a garage and have it recorded, contact the local ombudsman to take a look at my claim, and in the mean time lose out on earnings. Plus when I paid for my car to be taken from their garage (because it was taking up space if I am not going to pay) I found the wing mirror broken! Only last week I was in the process of upgrading my car with motor city as the life time warranty is worth paying that extra bit for, however I'm stuck on what to do now as my trust in them has diminished a fair bit. And I am not happy paying £1240 for it when other mechanics can do the job for half, plus, I was told on the phone "well, I guess we won't know for sure what is wrong with it until we have our specialist take a look"… so they havn't had a thorough look yet so it is not 100% certain it is wear and tear, to which the reply was "oh we are 100% sure" …. That's what I believe was said ,it is all too confusing and I'm sticking by it. And when I asked to email me the gearbox work history I was refused. Now I am waiting for them to call me back….:After company response:My biggest issue is having the option to either go through, or not go through, with a £1240 job which I would be paing for, when the predicted fault is a mechanical fault, not a wear and tear fault. I take back the wing mirror issue as I have had a car revovery to motor city and from motor city. But I have not fabricated anything as that is slander, I have written a review of my interpretations, opinions, and beliefs of what happened, and it is up to the reader to decide wether or not to take my review seriously or not. I want to say how I really feel about the matter but I cannot as the review site will take this review down due to disallowing any vague terminologies that other people could percive, and be influenced by, differently.I too want to work together to get this sorted but quite frankly I don't think I can as I believe the charge will be wrongfully given to me. I only phoned motor city yesterday and already I've had a member of staff working very hard to get me a vehicle despite my poor credit although I've not got a car yet I'm still super impressed with the level of effort they have put in and would highly recomend these guys to any one looking to buy a car straight off or looking for finance They've guys have been fantastic thus far.
We bought a so called Eco car from here, and there's been no end of problems. The fuel consumption is only 40mpg instead of the claimed 70, the brakes failed after 2 months nearly killing me (they did fix the brakes free of charge), and now there's a problem with the electronic transmission! So far, the garage have taken no responsibility and I've contacted my lawyer.
Popped in to have a look what options were open for us as we've been looking for a 7 seater to fit the brood. Matt was extremely welcoming and applied no pressure at all to us (not so sure on his riddles though! ). Overall the sale was really smooth and we felt very well taken care of. Alas, within 2/3 days the car had developed a minor problem. I rang to speak to Matt but was pointed in the direction of Ryan. His service, like Matt's, was absolutely first class and we were good to go again. Thanks to Matt and Ryan for a great experience and look forward to bringing Madeline (the kids named the car) in for her pamper.
I purchased a Citroen C3 MAY 2013. From Motorcity. I dealt with Matt the sales manager and found him to be very polite and friendly. You are offered free cups of tea and coffee and you feel very relaxed dealing with him. I was interested in purchasing car on finance and he went through all the paperwork and explained everything in great detail. He managed to secure a finance deal tailored to my specific circumstances. I believe that he is very good in securing finance and he would be the man to go to. First class service from the initial looking at cars, to picking my car up. All the cars are immaculately presented, unlike some of the big players just down the road. Nothing was too much trouble. They will get out custom again!
If you're looking for a new car I would definitely Motor City your first stop. I didn't know what car to buy and had a limited budget but Matt offered sound informative advice and I couldn't be happier with the car I eventually bought. They even took my battered Spanish car in part exchange! They couldn't have been more helpful and the after sales service is second to none.

I have never before in my 54 year let someone else buy me a car without seeing it first. I recently purchased a vehicle and to say I bought a lemon would be an understatement. Motor City offered their services to source and supply a vehicle to my requirements, simple Citroen Xsara, low mileage, full service history for a reasonable price & in silver or grey. It took two weeks and a couple of phone calls from Matt (sales team) to source a vehicle and after a call confirming my intent to purchase it Motor City acquired the car, serviced and prepared it to the highest standard. We collected it today and it drives and looks like new. The customer care from Motor City is second to none and I would recomend them to anyone without a second thought. The provision of 7 day drive away Insurance, 12 months MOT and they even taxed the vehicle (I paid) so I could drive away from the garage with the i's dotted and the T's crossed. All in all a first class service all round.
We were looking for a small 5 door hatcback at an affordable price, and without any difficulty Matt showed us just what we wanted. He was extremely helpful and courteous, offering good advice without being pushy. The after care deals are excellent too, we're pleased that we took notice of our son-in-laws's recommendation.
